Welcome from Mid Sussex. Always fancied a Dingwall!

Where to get good quality speaker cables?
SuperSeagull replied to Linus27's topic in Accessories and Misc
After issues with my Gear 4 Music unbranded speakon cable at the weekend I'm doing the sensible thing and sorting one with Neutrik connectors. But, do I need 4mm or 2.5mm cable? Its a MB CMD 121 combo running into a MB 121 extension cab - so max 500w at 4 ohms. I'm assuming thicker is better? -
I use a Thomann branded one on a wide Levy’s strap.

We played an outdoor event yesterday, in a combination of rain, sun, wind and a bit of thunder. Fortunately we were well covered and the turnout was pretty good in the circumstances. A few songs in my MB setup wasn't right. Not enough volume and no bottom end. I could see the speaker in the combo pounding away but no movement in the extension cab. Between songs swapped out the speakon lead for a spare jack to jack speaker cable I carry and all was good but these things are always a bit stressful when they happen mid performance.

That's the one, Arms not Head!

Which pub is that? We've done the Kings Head in Dorking a couple of times during their festival. It's a nice spot.

Ta re the first point. Good to know. I need to listen to the phase switch, I’m not sure I’ve really done that yet.

I have a Rafferty HPF that I bought on here. I have no real understanding of how it works (despite having a son with a PhD in Acoustics who is also an excellent guitarist) but I know it does something subtle but wonderful to my sound. I adjust the freq control to the point that it sounds a bit rubbish then dial it back a bit. Everything seems to tighten up. I now need to see what the phase switch does!

Arriving, reflecting and departing - music for your funeral
SuperSeagull replied to snorkie635's topic in General Discussion
Arrival - Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2 in C Minor from about 6:30 in (My Mum had it for her funeral and it would honour her) Reflection - some of The Great Gig In The Sky from Pink Floyd Departing - Good Old Sussex By The Sea, the marching song of the Royal Sussex Regiment which is played at every Brighton and Hove Albion home game -
Bit of a surprise this news but I'm delighted that Rob is in better health. When I visited their workshop in Jan 2020 to order my S2 bass I was struck by the very strong chemical smell in the workshop - maybe that is something to do with the move to wooden necks. But for me a Status is graphite and headless so I'll stick with mine!

Precisely what I do!

We’ve just changed our drummer, in part because the old one couldn’t be arsed to count in on time and refused to use a metronome app to help him. It culminated with him counting in Rio at our last gig with him so fast I could barely keep up until some how we got it under control. New drummer uses an iPad with a note of the bpm and metronome for the whole set. It’s basic stuff, like using a tuner instead of relying on tuning by ear.

The Elf is so tiny on the cab but they are great amps. What is in the BF cab? I’m constantly tempted to go down that route.

I chickened out of doing this myself and took it to the fantastic Badlands Guitars in Brighton who did an excellent job. The bass sounds so much better without the preamp, much more like either a P or a J. The wiring job they did was neat as a pin and all for £59. The Lyte is going to get a lot more use now.

Thanks but want to go full passive.

Hi, my Fender P Lyte continues to prove problematic. Having replaced a dodgy battery clip it now works all the time but the volume is inconsistent, it sometimes distorts (and it’s had a new battery more than once) - I can’t rely on it it a performance setting so I’m thinking of converting it to passive. It is potentially a nice back up instrument and its weight is attractive when my old back is applying up. It’s a two band eq with a pick-up pan and a master vol, so a two vol, two tone seems the obvious way to go. Apart from finding a suitable wiring diagram I guess I need to change the pots as well but I’m unsure what ones I’d need. Anything else to consider?

Just down the road from me but alas will be in Northumberland over the weekend.

Another hot, sweaty pub in Crawley on Friday night. Lots of punters in the beer garden but we did the full two and half hour set with a dep drummer who did well although hard work for me helping cue him all night. Guitars were struggling to stay in tune but my Status was rock solid, in fact forgot to check the tuning until I had to retune for a drop D in the first set - gotta love some carbon graphite! Bit of a break now over the summer while we search for a permanent drummer.
-
If our drummer ever made it to rehearsal I might be able to build a relationship with him - hopefully I can with the drummer we are now trying to recruit to replace him!
-
I know I lusted after one of these when I was about 15 or 16 in 1978’ish. Saw it in the window of Rose Morris but was too pricy for me and my Mum and Dad. Went for a Craftsman J-bass which was a Macaris brand - a great bass for the money but it didn’t make me look like Bruce Foxton 🙁
-
We are an established rock covers band. Looking like we are going to need a new drummer in readiness for gigs in the autumn.

How do we get ourselves and our rigs to rehearsals or gigs?
SuperSeagull replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
Drive. Rehearsal room is in the middle of nowhere and it's too late for public transport after most gigs. I brought an old non descript CMax to lug gear around and I dont have to worry about it being left parked at or near some of the scuzzy pubs we play at! -
Ha! My wife just said that's how I want you to have your hair cut, take a picture! We'll see - not sure I'm cool enough!
