  1. Exactly what happened. I plugged my backup Elf into the NY121 and played on. Not enough headroom but it coped admirably and I doubt a single punter noticed.
  2. As I mentioned on another thread, my MB CMD12P let me down during a gig last night. I'm sure it was an overheating issue as its fine this morning but last night, running loud at 4 ohms with an extension cab, tight against a wall and next to a thermonuclear radiator it cut out a couple of times before shutting down completely. It has served me well, its an Italian one I bought s/h 10 years ago (from Channel 4 news Krishnan Guru-Murthy as it happens). But I can't now trust it so will relegate it to a rehearsal space or maybe leave down at our church. But what to replace it with? I'm left with a MB NY121 cab so need a head and another cab or a single cab and head solution and sell the NY? I know about the new MB range but I'm wondering about TC or another class D brand. Or do I revert to old school and pick up a s/h Ashdown ABM. I know I need to get to a store and try some (GAK and Andertons are on the list) but would welcome thoughts on gear that is working well for you and which doesn't break the bank to buy either new or s/h. Cheers.
  3. Halfway through the second set of our gig last night my MB amp died. I was able to grab my Elf and hook it up to a single 1x12 cab without too much drama and used it for the rest of the night. We are a loud band and I had the master vol full up but it sounded awesome. There was no head room but I was able to keep the pre amp from clipping and I got through the rest of the set. It was very hot at the end, not sure it’s sensible to run it that hard for long but it dug me out of a big hole and sounded excellent as well. If TE did a 500w version I’d be at the front of the queue.
  4. Somewhat different, a side effect of my cancer treatment is that the fingers on my right hand feel like the skin has been burnt. I played today, felt very uncomfortable.
  5. I was a part of the song selection panel for Spring Harvest around that time, my reward was a copy of that wire bound book each year!
  6. All sounds very promising. Looking forward to receiving the bass.
  7. I am about to be in the privileged position of being gifted a bass, a custom built Feline based on a 57 P. It’s a maker I am not overly familiar with - any other Feline basses out there?
  8. Lewis is literally round the corner from me but I’ve still yet to pop in and see his workshop. Must put that right. He built a lovely bass for a friend of mine.
  9. You are probably sorted now but M J Still in Lancing have a good reputation - been a while since I used him but he sorted an Orange Valve head for a very reasonable price.
  10. We are doing Fairytale of New York for our pre Christmas gig - would prefer to be doing a bit of Slade.
  11. We’ve just moved from a large church in Mid Sussex to a much smaller one on the other side of town. It’s a very “high” church, a small and welcoming congregation and a new vicar with a great vision. So I’ve left a full band every week with a brilliant music director and great tech team to playing once a month with a much smaller band, although top notch musos inc my favourite drummer from the same church we have moved from. I’m using what I now call my St Ed’s bass, a 62 RI p bass with flats rather than my rather more shouty and in your face Status, different gear for different circumstances.
  12. Stupidity, one of the great live albums. Last saw him supporting Quo on their reunion tour in 2014. Unique, another one of the greats lost.
  13. Likewise re the hobby point. We do the odd unpaid charity type gig but only if there is a chance something paid comes out of it - doesn’t always work though!
  14. That’s what we get in and around Crawley in West Sussex. Doesn’t go far when you are a 6 piece 🙁
  15. A cliche it maybe but here is mine. ‘62 RI CIJ 1999-2002, unable to be more specific with the serial number. Purchased in 2008 from Far Eastern Guitars for £465. Not sure if it is the US or standard model and in any case I’ve put a SD Quarter Pounder in. Pure P bass, always fancied a year of birth P bass but an American one was out of budget!
  16. Great description! I have an S2 delivered in July 2020.
  17. We did a pub gig in Crawley last night. Packed, two and half hour set so I am feeling all of my 60 years today. Had my Status back for this from the mothership in Colchester fixed and set up beautifully by Rob - have enjoyed playing my Flea Jazz while it’s been away but it’s not my Status! We did Don’t You forget About Me for the first time - went down a storm but anyone else have a drummer who needs the bass player to count him in on some songs otherwise he rattles off so quickly I just can’t get the gallopy bit in the breakdown.
  18. Second the idea of a Squier or Jap one - no question there is something about a P bass but it doesn’t necessarily have to be one made in the US.
  19. I haven’t been brave enough to use mine with a full band yet but it has more than held it’s own in a smaller set up, I must give it a go. They are extraordinary pieces of kit!
  20. This is a shockingly unhelpful development. I’ve been battling with myself about the need to buy a Dingwall for a while and the head has been winning vs the heart. This could be a game changing moment.
  21. Founder, owner, designer, creator of Status basses. Along with his wife Dawn, legends of the bass world IMHO.
  22. I did an outdoor unrehearsed 45 minute set last night with a guitarist I’ve done a lot with in the past. His son was due to play drums but was delayed at work so we roped a guy we knew who was there to play for the first few songs. He’s a talented keys player and did ok on drums but…..what creased me up was, as his son arrived, the guitarist announced “Thanks to Pete Best, but Ringo has arrived”. Classic. And I played my CIJ 62RI P bass for the first time in a while - there is something about a P bass.
