We are an established rock covers band. Looking like we are going to need a new drummer in readiness for gigs in the autumn.

How do we get ourselves and our rigs to rehearsals or gigs?
SuperSeagull replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
Drive. Rehearsal room is in the middle of nowhere and it's too late for public transport after most gigs. I brought an old non descript CMax to lug gear around and I dont have to worry about it being left parked at or near some of the scuzzy pubs we play at! -
Ha! My wife just said that's how I want you to have your hair cut, take a picture! We'll see - not sure I'm cool enough!

I recently bought one and now do the same - just in case.

Norm is such a lovely guy he would probably say nothing and just smile graciously. He stayed with me a few years ago when he was doing some clinics in the UK - lovely fella.

And, despite my decidedly amateur soldering skills, it’s fixed. At least it’s working for now…..

Ditto.

Every day a school day. Love my V2 but never quite got my head around the various permutations other than I have found a setting I love.

How many basses do you take on stage?
SuperSeagull replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
Two, main and a spare. Had to use spare twice in about four decades but when I needed it I needed it! -
Had a closer look this morning. Both batteries full of juice so it's not them. But as I went to replace one the red wire connecting to the battery clip dropped off. I'm guessing there was a dodgy joint on the clip so first step is to get a new clip sorted and see what that does.
-
Yes, familiar with the dead battery distortion on these but this is different. The descending fart noise, almost synth like is new to me and it works again fine when you unplug and plug a lead back in.
-
Brand new Procell and I’m betting that when I put a meter on both of them they will be fine.

Took my 1994 P Lyte to rehearsal tonight just for a change. After about 10 mins it made a rather distinct descending fart sound and then would only produce distorted notes. A new battery appeared to solve it but then it started again and carried on all evening. The only way to “fix” it was to unplug it and then plug back in again to get about one songs worth of playing time. I think I can safely rule out amp and anything else in the signal chain - I’m thinking something in the pre amp has gone, a capacitor maybe? Welcome some thoughts.

A timely reminder. I am dreadful at changing passwords and having different ones for different sites. I’ll be sorting that now.

Belated hi from just over the border in West Sussex, although I still consider we are East rather than West in Burgess Hill.

If I Could Change Two Things About My Band
SuperSeagull replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
I would change the drummer to one who remembered the right tempo to count songs in and could play at less that 100% volume and not use his crash cymbal every 2 beats. I know he speaks highly of me too. I’d also drop the obsession with finding lesser know tracks from well known bands - we are a pub covers band, so we need to play what people know! -
Same here. I use it for small stuff with my MB 1x12. Lovely punchy sound, but just a bit underpowered to be used all the time sadly.
-
Haven’t played a Gnome but I own an Elf and I think it is brilliant. Love the sound, and when I had to use it in a loud band gig when my MB cut out, it held its own volume wise. If TE did a 500w version I’d be at the front of the queue.

My Fender Flea has developed some noise - more of a hum than a buzz. It is present as soon as the bass is plugged in and only goes away when either or both of the pickups are turned fully up. I'm used to having some buzz with single coils which goes away when the pickups are balanced volume wise - this is different. It doesn't change when I touch a string or other metal part. I have checked the continuity on the grounds of each pot and to the bridge. I've tried different leads, different amps, cleaned the pots and had a good nose around in the control cavity for anything obviously awry. I'm at a bit of a loss now.

You have £300 and you HAVE to buy a new bass today…..
SuperSeagull replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Interesting discussion. I bought my first bass in 1977 for £35 from Minns Music in Brighton. As I recall I had a choice of precisely one bass, a Zenta EB copy which I purchased. That £35 is worth around £280 today for which there is a great selection of some really decent instruments which are perfectly giggable and would blow my old Zenta out of the water. Kids today don’t know how lucky they are 🙄 -
It is small, particularly for a 6 piece! White Hart, where we are next week, is better although the High St can get a bit lairy!
