1. This is pedal porn.....does anyone wasn't to buy my kidney ?
2. I was briefly in a band where the drummer ran around the stage, he was like a rubber ball, never still, loads of energy, he would run around & gee the crowd up stand up & play .... He was a great drummer & was brilliant to watch. He was one of the best drummer's i've ever seen. he was only very young & if he isnt still playing somewhere it would be a great loss. Drummers are lost behind their kit, there is no law to say they should do the traditional sit still and do nothing.
3. Aww no not again .......Here comes all the others now lol
4. When it first appeared I got a good deal on a Honer the Jack headless but nowadays they are asking daft money for what they have. A while ago they had acoustic bass for £140 which I saw new for £20 more I dont go in anymore
5. To the OP: There are lots of people who struggle to buy the kit we need, it's a balancing act to seperate the overheads of being in a band & buy the kit we need, all the time when living a life made up of bills, house expenses etc. I believe if you have a compulsion to make music it really doesnt matter what instrument you play or what you use to amplify what your playing. I made a decision to steer clear of kit, instruments & things I simply cannot afford or be able to justify spending money on. It's made me a happier person because of it. Before it used to really get me down & I stopped even visiting music shops altogether because I hated feeling skint. But it's my life & there is very little I can do about it so I just picked up my bass & played it for what it is. Ever since I have a new motivation and a new lease of life in my playing. I have been very lucky over the last few weeks & got the chance to get a second bass for a bargain price, but turned the chance down because I couldnt justify spending the extra money even though it was bonus money that I wasnt expecting to get.......My house, child & normal life is more inportant, I love the bass I have & thats what is important to me.I often drool over this bass or that amp but to be honest if I bought them I'd just feel guilty abou spending that much money when I could take my family on holiday with the same cash. If your lucky enough to be able to afford the best kit, even if your not that skilled, but it makes you happy, then thats a great thing & I'm happy that you have had the oppotunities to be able to have that stuff. But if your not, it's not a bad reflection on you, your still a bass player, it just means your kit is what it is....play & be happy you have found something you love to do. Because when we all consider playing bass as a love, it's a great thing to be a part of.
6.
That's a real shame. I have been in bands where I've covered another guy because of his circs because they've been a nice guy/good player and I don't imagine I'm remotely unique. Never be embarrassed by your situation. Remember this (I don't know who said it) "those who mind don't matter, those that matter don't mind".
Yeh I know what you mean, Maybe i'm a bit too proud because I always pay my way. I wanted to stay in the band but felt a right git. after most sessions when they were all heading to the pub I made my excuses and went home. In the end it just got me down so decided to back out. I was gutted at the time. It's hard when your on such a tight budget, for instance I'm already putting money aside for xmas this year. otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford the season. It's not just being generous for Xmas it's just affording the meet ups, taxi's as well as gifts for each other. I dont live a expensive lifestyle....far from it but it's the odd £1 that adds up to a lot of money. My heart goes out to the Op. It really is hard work living like this, you have the compulsion to make & play music but you cant afford to actually be in a band. For instance I saved up to buy a pedal that I've wanted for years......the cash was sat in my account & I was waiting for one to come up for sale. Then I get the bill for my sons new school uniform & I have now had to spend the cash......I go on the "Effects for sale" section & there is three of the pedal I wanted that was up for sale ......It's torture to watch them when you were so close.
7. I supose the thing we are missing here is the weekly/monthly payout of practice etc. I dont think gear is that bad because once you have it you can always improve on what you have. I live on a shoestring budget & could not afford to be in a band that practices loads simply because i could not afford fuel & cash to pay for a practice session every week. I recently jammed with guys who I really enjoyed playing with but had to drop out because I was too embarrassed to tell them that I couldnt afford to pay for sessions, fuel & the obligitory few pints afterwards, every week. It does burn into your pocket if your on a tight budget.
8. My bass & amp cost me less than 400 quid. Happy with my tone. Love playing Have no wants or needs above that. My cloth is cut to my very narrow pocket. Do I wasn't something higher up? Nah I'm happy with what I have
9. I am agreeing with all of you. I'm recording this thread in my mind......who do I pay royalties to ?
10.
Your other liver, Gav..?
***cough*** yep......erm shhhhhh!!!!
11. Its a jaw dropping piece of kit. I love the look & am overjoyed that it plays like it does. One day.......one day
12. Nice !!! I want that sound now lol.....might have to sell my other liver....only one *cough* careful owner
13. all of the Beastie Boys "Ill Communication" was recorded using an upright.
14. I used to get something simular with a octive pedal, Jim dunlop crybaby & a dod distorsion pedal. In a small sweaty club full of long haired mosh heads it was near enough for me lol By the way This the video was filmed in the 90's not the 80's lol. The black album came out in 1991 this was the tour to acompany it. although this fact makes me feel very old.
15. I'm finger style too. Even when I played thrash metal I was always a finger style player, i am useless with a plectrum. If I was to give advice I would try to learn both as there would be always more options to having both styles down.
16. Sean Yseult from White Zombie. She blew me away with her style.....and may I say fwoor indeed.
17. Cool so when I ambush the future Mrs F with a turkish sauna.....I'm actually helping her stay healthy?........I shall continue my quest to think of her first & drop more. woo hoo !
18. God I miss my stagg hard times sometimes sting !
19. Ask him if I can have a ticket for Leeds as I didnt know he was playing until it was sold out gutted !!! Ya see if I got to meet him I'd just mention i play bass but ask him about him & what he also does to relax.....I wonder how often people ask musicians what makes them tick other than music
20. Loving this thread I love it when the good peeps of BC get together & share info. especially on effects because I'm crap at working stuff like this out
21. I did exactly what the OP says....I quit & didn't come back for about 9-7 years but music is in my blood, I came back through just love for it. Sometimes its better to step away & stop. if you come back great, if not, you may end up finding something else that will fill the void. My break was a great tonic & I came back a better more balanced player, I have learned what I need to & I now only play to make myself happy. To the OP I hope you find what you are looking for matey
22. Just sold a pedal to Mike. top bloke, smooth transaction. anyone can deal with him with confidence & he now knows never to trust a weasel. Cheers Mike
