[/quote] +1000 I have the same Bass & my mate who plays a bass worth three times what I paid for mine, would not believe what the Ibanez SR300 cost me. Also this bass impressed Mr Shergold Snickers & he has a beautiful custom bass that I can only dream of owning. I think sometimes people confuse cheap things and things that cost's less. There is often a big difference.

Its always baffling when people cover songs & dont learn the original. When I first started playing (I still do this now) I will study the song. I will stick it on a cd & listen to it in the car, I will listen to it over & over again till the timing, layout & every change is committed to my memory. Then I will learn how to play it, that way when I'm playing all the changes are totally natural to me. I have been in bands where a guitarist will say "I've listened to it twice, I know what I'm doing" then proceed to miss every change & get the solo wrong.... ...Ok then!

You can say what you like but I'm loving this bass, I wouldn't pay that for it but I love the work that's gone into it. I've been messing for a while with different effects but was struggling with a way to make it work when I came up with the layering of different bass sounds, I have done some extremely rough recordings and was struggling to find how to make the noises that I wanted to make, I was playing the EUB with a Big Muff, a beast of a distortion pedal & going into a synth with a expression pedal & it seemed to click into place. I was still scratching my head though with where to go next with it & now I can kinda see what your doing it's really spurred me on. I will take you up on this mate as advice on effects is desperately needed with me. I'm trying to make some sense of all the different sounds you can make & the way they interact with each other. which is bloody hard work with lots of trial & error lol I caught the track last night, I like this, it's my kind of music. I'm going to follow this with great interest as I have my own ideas that seem to be in a similar vein to all this. keep up the good work mate, you have a new fan here lol

Awww god!!! When I see this kind of stuff on here I start jumping up & down. As I'm at work I cant listen to the track.....grrrr This sounds really my kind of thing & I cant wait to give this a listen ! Shep by the way I'm loving your website. Your style of playing is really what I'm aiming for, The difference with your ideas to mine is multi tracking my bass guitar, then overdubbing my clean acoustic bass & filling a back shadowy deeper Electric Upright Bass behind it all to give it depth (If this makes sense?) The next step for me is that on Saturday I'm picking up a Portastudio so finally I will be able to do this with better results.....Shep you've really inspired me & what's more you have convinced me that I'm heading in the right direction. I have an Ibanez SR300. And although some people disagree with me is the most complete Bass I've ever owned. I have played higher priced basses that the SR puts to shame. but it all depends on what you are looking for in a bass. The SR suits me perfectly the right weight, body size, tone, neck width well just about everything. But you may be different. best thing to do is go into a PMT as they usually have them in stock & have a play. I did it the other way round, I stumbled over one & picked it up not thinking it would be for me & after an hour I still could bring myself to put it down lol

I often wonder about the modern musicians building up their skills & the one thing that strikes me about the people who come along & change the way people see music is the ones who have no idea what the rules are. I love to see people who play music with no idea of self consciousness, it just is what they do. Recently I posted a video of a guy I've met several times through people I know called Jon Gomm his approach to playing guitar fascinates me. People like him just does things in ways that makes me think that music is an amazing thing it has the power to delight, confuse & change lives. I was once asked "why do you play an instrument?" I told her that if you love something you don't need a reason, you just love it, its part of you & will be forever.

I'm not being pedantic I would just like to know if people who like the greats actually listen to new bands & musicians & listen to how they approach music. Cheers Ed [/quote] I can see what your saying but no matter how hard I try, I just dont get it at all. Some listen to him & hear virtuoso bass player. I hear a load of straggled notes battered in odd intervals played with a straight face. Although there is a lot of worship aimed at Jaco but what he does I find personally very ugly to my ears. Heavy weather (I bought before this t'interweb thingumy bob) was one of the only albums I gave away after one listen. Although he is seen as a legend and as a Bass player I have to worship him......but I dont get it & probably never will.

I was an Acid Techno DJ so all the "club classics" in my scene was brutal "Reformation 2" by Lab-4, "Hostile" by Justin Bourne etc......but with your set up these would be a hard task lol
