1. Thanks everyone for advice, much appreciated. Actually managed some reasonable results from just a SM57 at some recent gigs. But, want to obtain a semi-decent mic myself for recording, & to take to gigs when the FOH engineer bemoans he cannot mic me up due to lack of mics. Will look into RVD1, as well as well these JTS mics: TX-2 (£30 http://www.fbtusa.net/JTSTX2webtc.html NX-2 (about £50) http://www.fbtusa.net/JTSNX2webtc.html Thanks again
  2. Wouldn't bid more than a ton myself, gonna need a fair amount of work to get it up & running. Looks like hassle to me
  3.
Massive fan - loved his sound, style & whole textural approach. He lives up here in Edinburgh these days - and seeing this thread has just reminded me that he's doing a one-off gig at the Voodoo Rooms on May 3rd! Jon.
Hi Jon, Big fan too myself, though I doubt you're gonna see a bass guitar at this gig or others. He's been doing a lot of good ambient electronic stuff along with quite a few good film soundtracks over last years.
  4. Hello All, I after a mic for recording & for gigging, to use in conjunction with DI'ing my bass. AKG D112 is one, I hear of a lot. Was wondering does anybody have any experiences of other makes/models, would be nice to know of another cheaper alternative if available....do Behringer or anyone else make a D12 clone or similar(?) Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks

  6.
Actually, Primark do some good stuff, might not be thick decent cotton t-shirts, but for summer wear they're gonna be great. Plus they're dirt cheap, t-shirts/jumpers/shirts for under £5. Suits can be had for about £20.
I'm a Matalan man myself
  7.
Yep, I've been wearing them for years now, but then Nike took them over, they became more popular and as the prices went up, the quality dropped rapidly. They're nowhere near as durable as they used to be even 4 years ago. Sad times.
You're totally right there - they have gone sh1t. Used to last for ages, just like Sambas. Now there's a classic too!

    Mazeti Basses

Not a bass, but I recently bought a cheap Mazeti 330 Rickenfaker. Excellent value, & not a bad copy - pretty good actually. Our guitarist loves it so much, he's buying it of me.

  10. Have you considered EHX Octave Multiplexer?
  11.
I'm told that it can be fixed with a very simple operation...so simple that it's *almost* affordable to get done privately.
"Dupuytren's contracture" - sounds like a track by The Fall(?!) How's it going Chris? Currently revisting 'M5#1' - awesome bassline. Hanley rules or what? Getting back to the subject; I use my little finger - when required
  12.
This looks like it dates from the sixties but i think someone has put a pbass pup on at some point. about seventy five quid at the moment. http://cgi.ebay.ca/RARE-SOVIET-RUSSIAN-BAS...1QQcmdZViewItem
I visit Ukraine & Russia fairly frequently due to my wife being from this region. There are a lot of these 'Soviet' guitars & basses around, if you know where to look & unsurprisingly dirt cheap. Trust me, the majority are unplayable (tree-trunk necks),dodgy built quality with crap pickups & this is coming from someone who likes his old Jap/Italian crap, I can do without modern ergonomic basses myself. Would advise steer clear of most of this stuff - its generally sh*te. Shame really, as there are some cool & whacky designs, but totally ungiggable. OK for a video shoot I suppose.
  13.
About £250 after I've re-valved it? The current pre-amp valves are "Fender" branded so they're probabaly the original ones close on 30 years old! All controls working fine otherwise.
PM'd you Cheers
Most PC/printer combinations have a card slot somewhere - I usually take the xD card out of my camera and just plug it straight in. Alternatively, a universal card reader from Jessops costs less than £10.
Cheers - much appreciated
  16.
For smaller venues, try a WEM Dominator with a 15" Celestion (most have 12"). You can still get them - in great condition - for under £200 if you're prepared to keep looking.
+1 I love mine

And where abouts are you in the sou-weh, if you're non-too secretive?
Hi Paul, I'm based in Bristol/Bath area. I've got some photos here (in bass section), however it needs updating with some recent additions of Ibanez Blazer, Aria Lazer & a Mazeti 330 Ricenfaker. Lost my camera USB lead! 18.
Really nice & playable bass - bit sad to have sold it, on reflection, but it didn't feel or sound right for the band - and they all have to justify their existence by being something I'd gig with. J.
Understand where you're coming from there Jon. Having said all that, new drummer & guitarist in band I'm in, are loving all my basses . Where there's a will there's a way! Make the band fit round your Japcrap - I have!
