  1. Not gigging much lately and need some songs to practice with. Id describe myself as 'intermediate' level. Any suggestions ?
  2. Another Carlsbro 90 bass amp owner here, I blew the driver on it. it had no balls at all.
  3. 12 years separate these acquisitions. The colour scheme is purely coincidental, they just happened to be available in that colour on offer in 2 separate German outlets 🤷‍♂️
  4. Cool, Its a fliptop version of the little bastard ?
  5. I recently put a set of XL chromes on a fender player P bass. Feel stupid that I haven't done this years ago. Sound gorgeous through my little bastard. I'd still use rounds with my usual band though for the zing.
  6. These always seemed a little but awkward looking to me. I wouldn't like to have a valve head perched on top of it. Apart from having the top speaker closer to your ears I don't see the big advantage of it over say a 4 x 10, 2 x 10 or 1 x 15 in terms of practicality
  7. Instead of starting a new thread on this item Id like to chime in with my own Query. I currently own a Sandberg VS and a Fender Precision Player. The Sandberg has delano pickups with those big pole pieces and a 2 band glockenklang preamp while the fender has the standard fender stock ones with the usual passive set up. I was happy with the Sandberg up to the point where I bought the fender, now I think the sound from the Sandberg seems a but too scooped and clean sounding and the fender seems to have a lot more classic P bass character. I think the problem with the Sandberg might be those pickups. Would anyone have any recommendations for an old school aggressive sounding pickup with plenty of midrange punch
  8. Id love to hear reviews on their passive VS (P bass) and passive TT (Jazz). I've the active VS and I think if I was to go again Id go passive.
  9. Not big into aged basses myself but Sandberg do it really well.
  10. Just home , the audience enjoyed the band but my sound was terrible 😞. Just one of those night where you can’t hear yourself right at all and you can’t stop the gig to sort it. Think it was an issue with the pedal chain
  11. They got better and better and less and less interesting 🤔
  12. Other well trodden YouTube paths: - valve v solid state, which is gooder - its illegal to play bass with a pick - Jaco and his use of the bridge pickup (and watch I can do it too)
  13. I hate when they’re “reviewing” a new bass but all they’re really doing is a “look at my chops” video
  14. I just wanted a rant because I’m so sick of them …because I always end up watching them 😅
  15. Just spotted another P v J video posted 2 days ago on YouTube . Who needs to see these being remade over and over 🙄
  16. I've both a Fender Precision bass (Mex player) and a Sandberg VS, on paper they should sound the same but they don't. The Sandberg seems to have a cleaner "airer" scooped sound (even with EQ bass and treble set to 0) whereas the Fender has more of a bark, and seems to have more of a midrange "Jean-Jacques" dirty snarl which I love. I wouldn't say the fender is 'warmer' than the Sandberg but its definitely got more lower midrange punch and attitude. Its been noticed by my non bass player bandmates.
  17. No problem with me , I’ve a sandberg California vs since 2010 and I’ve never had any issues , my new basic seems well built with no cheapness detected anywhere
  18. Yep, I didn't like Low End Lobster having a go at the bridge design. If he bothered googling it he would have seen that its quite easy to adjust anything. My only tiny gripe about this bridge is that the intonation adjustment and the fact that you have to move the saddles with your fingers, in this regard I think the fender design is better and you get more control just turning a screw.
  19. Just received my second Sandy from BTM guitars in Germany. I’m actually a bit in awe at the quality of the woodwork, finish and hardware. the bass wasn’t outrageously expensive at all (considerably cheaper than a stingray or US professional fender) and it has the fit and feel of a premium instrument. I’m not into fancy wood finishes or too much glitz or crazy electronics but I really like the wood on this bass. I think the single MM pup in the sweet spot and 3 band EQ is the perfect set up. Enough versatility but not enough to cause option paralysis. It nails that stingray punch but the 3 band eq seems a lot more practical (I’ve owned a 3 band MM in the past). I had a small jam with it tonight and every note rings clear and is really well defined. Looking forward to some serious gigging with this bass.
  20. I had Genz Benz stuff in the past and I found them to be lightweight and decent sounding and cheap. I think they did a pretty good 2 * 10 combo.
  21. I use Ashdown all the time and if you’re willing to get a head / cab you can pick up ABMs second hand at quite reasonable prices. I had an ampeg pf350 and it’s just underpowered
  22. I actually played 2 gigs with a little bastard and a barefaced two10. One gig was with a brass jazz band out doors ! and it held up 'OK' the other was in a pub, same set up, where the landlady really didnt want us to be too loud. The guitarists were using 7 - 15W amps. Again it held up Ok with a smidgen of overdrive, which was fine. I typically use my Ashdown Spyder 550w hybrid as its a bit more portable and with way more headroom. I think I'll just use the CTM100 for rehearsal
  23. I think the UK import tax (B*word) uncertainty thing might have put people off as I'm based in Ireland. I just had a look at the Ashdown website and they now selling at £1499..crazy !
  24. I suppose it was about a size statement...but a traditional 2 * 10 isn't exactly unwieldy. I don't think that series of cabs was very successful for them
  25. I wondered about these and nearly bought one, I reckon a barefaced One10 would kick its derrière .
