  1. Great Amp, have one myself, Has 'Enough" power for acoustic sessions through a good cab. Valves easy to replace and relatively cheap. GLWTS
  2. Would you ship to NI ? Is there a case with it ? No hassle if you just want to deal with it locally.
  3. Looks new, plastic 'condom' on the pickups still !
  4. You wonder where its going to end, the snobbery around MIM instruments is fading especially considering how good the the Vintera instruments are, I've had a few MIA jazz bases in the past and I can honestly say my player P bass was as well put together, hard to see where the extra money is going for the USA entry level basses.
  5. Looking at the photographs of these basses , they look awfully like the player series basses . The bridge looks the same and the neck is the modern c shape , I know the tuners are the lollipops ones , but so what ? . Ok there’s a grease bucket tone circuit , not sure if that’s a good or bad thing . I know you can’t tell how a bass is going to play and sound from photos but they seem like really expensive player fenders. I have a 2020 player bass and it’s an excellent bass for the money. I think I’d put my money into a player 2 before one of these , and have change for an amp .
  6. My old bass tutor has a DB , maybe I should call over to him and see will he give me a run on his DB?
  7. Electric bass guitarist here wanting to stick my toe in the water of upright bass playing . In your opinion should I get an electric EUB or an acoustic. , what are your opinions on the entry level ones on Thomann ? Are they thrash ? I don’t want to spend too much money considering I’ll be primarily playing a bass guitar.
  8. I'm really interested in the 50s Vintera p bass, looks really cool and in general I like a chunky neck. I currently have the player P bass and that neck feels great, I think I can handle a chunkier neck but your post makes me nervous....is it really unwieldy ?
  9. I reckon its poly, its a recent enough budget bass, an LTD PJ type bass.
  10. Hi there , can someone offer advice on stripping a sunburnt finish off an alder body . Could I just sand off the finish or should I use a solvent ?
  11. Anyone out there own an Electra jazz bass ? I’ve already got a Cal VS (p) and a basic (mm) was considering the electra to finish the trio, not really a jazz bass guy but like the tone occasionally. Seems like a great instrument
  12. Did you change the valve’s recently? If you’re maxing out the gain stage maybe there’s a preamp tube issue ?
  13. I actually sold my ctm100 , found it a bit impractical for the kinda bands I was playing with.
  14. I sub in and out for a jazz band and their bass player has an elf also , I used his rig once and for some reason the sound he was getting was much cleaner and warmer than mine , I noticed he had the gain up at 3 O,clock , the bass up well past 2 o clock , and the treble , mids and volume down really low. Just used the volume for more, well volume. I tried this and got the same effect with my own amp. Just a funny setup but gave a great tone .
  15. That's fine, its not my guitar and and as it seems to be a normal phenomenon for fender electric guitars i'll leave its alone.
  16. Just doing a small repair of a jack output socket for a friend on his tele (sorted) and I noticed that the volume and tone pots , while working fine, only really seem to engage in the last few increments , like between 8 -10 ish ? Is that normal . It’s a 20-30 year old fender telecaster (USA)
  17. Worst Amps. 1. A 1980s Carlsbro Cobra 90. I blew the speaker twice in it, very underpowered amp. 2. TC BH250. Sounded OK but died shortly after I bought it. 3. Ampeg Portaflex 350 head, again no welly at all.
  18. About a year ago I did a active to passive conversion on my Sandberg California VS (P bass). I replaced the big pole peace delano style pickups with more aggressive sounding Lollar PB90s. As I already have a Fender P bass I decided a few months ago to put a set of LaBella low tension flats on this bass and keep rounds on the P bass. Absolutely love the sound, a lovely warm thump, not suitable for all genres of music but I sometimes play with a New Orleans type jazz band and its fits in like a glove, its almost 'upright bass' sounding. Funnily enough I prefer rounds on a fretless, despite the 'chews up the fretboard' mythology.
  19. I think I’m out - Dr Green bass reverb pedal
  20. Is there a list of participants yet ?
  21. I’m in however if a band has a kitty and new gear is purchased, e.g. a Pa speaker or something, does that count?
  22. I accidentally bought a fretless bass during the year but I’m well up for gear abstention 2025
