100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
Quilly replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think a small footprint 100w all valve head somewhere along the lines of the Ashdown little bastard in terms of size should be a commercial success …if competitively priced. Don’t see why you couldn’t fit 2 KT88s in there without overheating. Martin if you could ask them to add a dummy load function where you can run the head on its own that would be amazing 🤩 -
I think this is the hardest part or the year , spring , when you’re bored and what new gear.
-
I also bought a telecaster recently and had sleepless nights wondering was I in or out of the gear abstinence program 😂

Used my elf “rig” yesterday for a very tight corner in a cafe yesterday, not enough room for even a second Pa speaker. It was a life saver. -

Yeah it’s an updated version of the LB-30, CTM-30 with the same valves arranged horizontally, a few extra features in there also. Sweet bass amp -

I got one from a Dutch classified website shipped to Waterford a few years ago - €250. Just needed a re-valve and its sounds fab. I've often got great gear in EU mainland classified ad sites. You might have to do some trawling but there are a lot of Little Bastards out there. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204080651854?hash=item2f84279e4e:g:JpkAAOSwwoxjDfzF&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwFMUH%2B4CNvUS93jjxRLAO6rY1QSDPkiuobTFBMAMIJi3Ww7Az1vHGUSJ1Pg77tggcbKZzKw%2FqJOjDFgMOKntD1c8PThR1mVsKLE05GFDE4x%2BpY9YhhDJfbnVyOJtDUzUxI1De7ZErlnSZTjWVhCVEb0FFgBFb7kYKyLkGXHf2TQ2UrS0pSNphx6cDLifTwlUo5FS1y0%2FJi4ZkFxGGOg62vHyZwOQPzNxU0OiYhiDSTqNuJJgJf2SJmdaNm%2B46fxekw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9yL7sPZYQ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225463901009?hash=item347eb21b51:g:B7cAAOSwInFkAHXR&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwDR2Fm13mgyptYfo8QCv9EsTE0zMgfkHe4MSVFoPErmD3Ncx0rco7jjhssdRZKTuGLz1CozErH5WZDZBY40uk6sh20nt9Z9defPkhUcsfn4ZIBrnrajEAHSvkfQs0%2FAqU7Ta6FPNwIlhV3Em%2FYTkCMRb%2FZr8aDKufIwN0pxm%2FOStW01U763jU%2BphTNKINVm4pesgjJTrl%2B8%2Fqviel3UHH3fPk%2ByczqCOFhkaBaGez2C3EwzJbceqO1Rdjib4nLY3mA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9yL7sPZYQ -

Threw my “gear bag” in the corner a few times not realising- there’s a bass amp in there . Lucky nothing negative happened -

My only “complaint”’about the elf is that it’s so small sometimes I lose it 🙈 -
Really liking these La Bella Low Tension flats on my Basic . Punchy focussed and warm. Anyone else try this combo ?
-
I just put a set of these on my Sandberg Basic (German stingray basically) I really like the tone . Had them on a Sandberg California VS (p bass) so I kinda knew what to expect but on the Basic the tone is less woody and more punchy , focussed. I’ll see how they get on at rehearsal .
-
I’d count them as consumable items , I wouldn’t regard them “gear”
-
It’s good to know all potential flaws of a bass , you can decide “that fault doesn’t bother me “ for yourself and ignore it . At least you know what someone mightn’t like .
-
It’s such a pity because they look cool, if slightly pointless
-
Exactly, the player and vintera stuff is excellent , it’s a company problem not a country problem
-
I’ve a MIM player precision bass and everything is perfect on it, I had a MIM jazz years ago and while the components weren’t great the workmanship was flawless. I don’t think shoddy workmanship is omnipresent on fenders Mex instrument. Remember Mexico has a proud history of making guitars. The issue with the gold foil is caused by inconsistent quality assurance. I think the quality of the components is good , just put together badly .
-
Dave in Dave’s World had to realign a bridge on a Mex Geddy Lee I recall so it looks like bad QC alright

Anyone see that Low End Lobster review of that fender gold foil jazz - yikes
-
You must of got a good one, I had one of these vintage jaco basses and I found the bodywork to be very poor. the Wilkinson hardware on the otherhand was really good quality I thought.

I had a loan of Telecaster for a few months, played it like crazy for a while, then got bored of it. The most interesting electric guitar I had was a baritone Fender Jaguar. Again, once the novelty wore off I went back to playing bass, I'm just not a guitar guy.
-
Yeah not that difficult to get the basics, once you know the whereabouts of where you should be you play by ear instead of looking for frets. Difficult to master like any instrument. Personally I prefer non lined fretless basses. I actually find them easier to play. I found with the lined fretless basses I kept fingering the fretboard between the fret lines instinctively , which is incorrect of course. When there's no fret lines there at all you're forced to use your ears.

One month down , this isn’t hard at all 😅
