  1. Roundover done! This ply is a nice colour - contemplating several hours with the sander for a natural finish. Any guesses on the wood type? Very red. Looks like mahogany, but mahogany ply doesn’t exist, does it?
  2. Oh I got a couple of peaches. Simple, but massively effecting destroying my confidence for that gig. 1. Early days of gigging, maybe ‘97. Some Battle Of The Bands thing in a uni bar. Funky number, everything but the vocals drop out, I try to start a crowd clap. Despite my flailing arms, nobody in the audience joined in. 2. Much more recent (age has not bestowed me with wisdom) at a decent venue, just us playing to an almost sold out crowd. A little tipsy, tried to moonwalk on to the stage for our 2nd half. Knocked both my basses over.
  3. Best sound I ever had was with a Trace combo. Bloody lovely! Keep. Just make sure to lift it every day to keep fit enough to carry it!
  4. All stuck together now. Though my cutting isn’t perfect - small gaps and overhangs. Nothing copious amounts of filler and sanding can’t sort. I had an old tube of No More Nails to use as filler and extra grip between the gaps. It’s actually helped quite a lot. I’ll leave it dry fully, then take a sander to it to make all the panels and edges as flat to each other as possible. Then find a router somewhere (popping the screws out to do the roundovers). Maybe try the new Library Of Things that’s recently been set up in town.
  5. This little cab was going to be for me, but my lad has started playing recently, and he needs something small for his room. Perfect! Popped out the shed during my lunch break to cut the front baffle hole and stick some bits together. I’m glueing and screwing through lack of clamps, so will pop the screws out to round over the edges, then either reinsert or fill with skinny dowel. I messed up measurements on the side panels - they are a bit too short. I failed to take account of the 3mm blade width when setting my straight edge. Ah well. Got the lad in to help (never mind the GCSE revision 🤪).
  6. Hello peeps! I’ve finally started my house jam cab, designs courtesy of @Phil Starr!! I had a big old offcut of 18mm ply that has served as a trestle table, desk, and shed work bench. It’s very rough, with some delamination but overall solid (and I really hate waste). I don’t have a huge variety of tools, so mostly I’ve been waiting to borrow a circular saw from my neighbour! It’s a 1750w beast!!! I used an old IKEA wardrobe door as my straight edge 🤦🏻. I now have all the panels cut ready for assembly!
  7. Finally borrowed a circular saw. I think it would have been quicker to chew the panels to size. We’ll see if I can squeeze in some time this week to chop chop chop. Anyone else finished theirs yet?
  8. I’m going to see it everywhere now!
  9. Right - so far I can use a line selector effect to go from bass only to bass + pitch up + distortion. I could potentially create different patches for different songs as a quick fix til I get some other pedals! I’m going to experiment with the bass distortions to see if I can have an unaffected low end and distort the upper frequencies. We’ll see. That effects manager is great though!
  10. I’ve just downloaded the Zoom Effects Manager 1.1.1 and am a little overwhelmed by the choices!!!
  11. Hello chums. My 15 yr old has just picked up the bass. Good lad!! He loves Royal Blood, and wishes to emulate their sound. I have a Zoom MS70 CDR, and am in the process of downloading the unofficial Zoom Effects editor so I can add distortion sounds to it. I will experiment and report back, but is there a Zoom effect that can split a signal, bop it up an octave to distort, and recombine to the bass signal, all within the pedal? Thanks in advance, Pete.
  12. I’d love to hear some sounds from both the bass and the pedalboard. Do they sound as good as they look?!
  13. I had an issue with mice when my stupid cat kept bringing in live ones for sport and misplaced a couple. One of them did my Barefaced cab in (probably heard about tolex issues and thought I wouldn’t notice).
  14. Encore Blaster - any good like the old Encores, or rubbish?
  15. Awesome! What are the individual effects in the box? And who made the bass?
  16. Very cool! Who made them? And how the hell do you navigate that board?!
  17. Tried to edit my post to sound less stupiderer, but double posted instead. There’s no hope for me.
  18. I too relate it to my early years, as my dad used to restore antiques. This has that vibe!
  19. The “battered 200yr old old violin” look I see on Marleaux basses is awesome. How would one replicate it?
  20. I actually swore aloud looking at the pics! Jealous!!! You’ve got a load of space to put in some decent acoustic treatment. Are you buying or making panels? They are easy and cheap to DIY.
