1. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback, it's great to hear they are helping. I've got tons more in the pipeline so stay tuned :-)
2. I've just published the main part of my lessons on thumb position. I really hope you find it useful and it helps you get those high notes! Cheers Geoff http://youtu.be/-c-39Bten_E
3.
Just watched part1 - terrific Geoff, thanks. Answered some questions I've had really well.
Great stuff, look out for the next part in a couple of weeks. Cheers Geoff
4. I thought I would share my most new lesson as it's on a topic I get asked about a lot, Thumb Position. I'm explaining the method I use over a few videos and this is the first part of the series. I hope you find it useful, Cheers Geoff http://youtu.be/hOYNS-2gr_w
5. I'm friends with a few of the guys. They are all top UK players and the band's been about for a while...I think about 10 years. Jo Phillpotts is their bassist and Basschat member, he's a monster player and whilst he was on tour with the 'Thriller' show he called in to say hi about 2 weeks ago. I was drooling over his bass and he sounded amazing!
6. Beautiful bass with TON's of mojo! Congrats
7. I'm a fan of spiro weichs and they are lot easier to play pizz on and amplify than flexocores. Its hard to recommend strings, but I would at least try a pizz string or maybe hybrid like the Evah weichs if you play a lot of pizz.
8. I've listened to this several times today and it keeps getting better. It's a real gem of a solo in the perfect setting. His lines are so melodic, it's beautiful. + his Jean Auray bass sounds + looks incredible!
9. Wow, the online store's pretty confusing, what gauge are you going for? Light? http://www.gamutstrings.com/catalog.html?Vl=4&Tp=2 ...BTW I have also found that the Evah weich E can be a bit weak. Mostly I don't notice it and if I do I just dig in more :-)
10. Thanks mtroun, great playing + great sound. It's really got that gut vibe and I can't hear a big change as you pass across the Evahs to the Gamunts. It's quite old school, but with a really nice sustain. I bet the guys you play with love this, it's a really classic kind of tone. I'm also impressed that they seem to bow quite easily too and blend with the Evahs well. ....ahhhhh now I have more string gas :-) Cheers Geoff
11.
Thanks Geoff, and it was your very well done and easy to follow on-line lessons that got me a good start and going. Cheekily I have only tried the free ones so far.
That's great to hear, I'm glad you're enjoying them :-)
12. Hey Mtroun, I would love to hear a recording of the gut/Weich combo. I've been using Evah Weichs for years, but every 12 months tend to go round the block and try a few different sets, but I've never tried the Gamuts. Overall I love the Evah Weichs and like bassmeyhem would recommend them to anyone looking for a good hybrid set. For me they keep their pitch really well and I also agree they are easier on the hands than a lot of strings.
13. It sounds like you are off it a great start Highfox. Those Short regular sessions will soon pay off. I would book a lesson to help you get started and I bet you will find it makes everything a lot easier. Enjoy your practice, cheers Geoff
14. Looks great! Congrats on your new bass :-)
15. Have a good one tonight Keith, I'm afraid I can't make it, but I had a blast last time and the band you have tonight are first class!
16.
I'm playing the EP Weichs as is a much more experienced double bass playing friend of mine. We both play orchestral music and he is also very active playing jazz. The Weichs are easy on the hands and produce a good sound arco and pizz so I would give them a try. Pete
+1 I think they are a great hybrid string. The regulars are darker with a thicker tone, but I find the heavier gauge harder work. Weichs seem to be a better fit for me and also seem to amplify better as they are a touch brighter than the regulars.
17. Leigon that is an amazing instrument! Great choice.
18. Congrats. I started out on a Zeller and loved it!
19.
All I can say is both Jake Newman and Geoff from the discover double bass lessons both think my Gedo is a good bass for the money, they are good to deal with too ime. One person had a problem with a finger board and they quickly offered them a choice of acceptable solutions other than that everyone appears happy with their Gedo basses
I loved your bass Pete, it was awesome! There were some great instruments, I also really liked Simon's bass which had an amazing low B and Rodger's Upton was a great player!
20. Great stuff Pete, it sounds like a great chance and your bass rig will be loud enough :-) I wanted to take your Gedo home with me!
