1.
Brilliant as ever Geoff, I have a lesson with Jake on Sunday and as I have been slacking off a bit lately I have been doing a bit of homework, we left on 2-5-1 at the end of our last session so I will be starting with your lesson #37 as a basis which I have just been playing around with, where we end up from there is anyones guess, Thanks again and am I right in thinking you are coming to the Derby bash on the 5th of Oct? I would love to thank you in person as I really have used your lessons and advice on here since day one on my Stagg then the Gedo!
Hey Pete, good to hear from you and am glad your playing is going so well. I'm going to the bash in Derby so it will be great to catch up then, cheers Geoff
2. ...And here's the follow up lesson which I just released outlining some simple approaches to soloing over the same tune. There's also one on walking bass which I will post below. I hope you enjoy them. Cheers Geoff http://youtu.be/gZM2w_T-QIs http://youtu.be/IuuwGRm-yqo
3. +1 for Greg Cordez and Martin Penning, both great knowledgeable guys who are great at what they do and can help you get started. . . And of course BC which has an awesome DB section!
4. That sounds amazing! I would love to do a trip like that and Michael + the Wilfer shop would be right on the top of my list. Both make great basses.
5. Here's a new video lesson teaching a double bass study piece I wrote called 'Minor Turnaround'. I hope you enjoy it, Cheers Geoff http://youtu.be/37hpNz31LLg
6. Thanks for the heads up, that's a great idea and it's awesome it's being made in the UK.
7. Great news! I'm really looking forward to this. Thanks for the hard work getting it organised Owen and Bassace.
8.
Are there any dates or venues which will suit everyone? No. So here is a concrete proposal Risley Park Hotel, Derby Road, Risley DE72 3SS (J25 M1) is available Sun 5 Oct. £100 venue hire. What do we reckon?
I would be up for that..... 3.Geoffbassist
9.
You're doomed Geoff, but fear not, apparently plain guts can last decades...
That's interesting I think one concern I would have is how well they did on the gig. There are some strings which I like the acoustic pizz sound of like Belcanto, but for me don't cut it on a gig. I'm looking forward to hearing more about how everyone gets on with them.
10. I can't read this thread as the GAS is too strong! I would love to try out a set of guts though and I know a friend who has just put them on his bass so will go and have a go on his! I hope I hate them as my string addition is getting expensive...!
11. I use the single channel and it's awesome. This is a great deal and Chris is a top seller/bassist!
12.
love your lessons, i watched all of them over and over, brilliant
That's great to hear and I appreciate the feedback. I've just released the second of a two part tutorial on playing bebop style lines on the double bass. Here's both videos. I hope you enjoy them, cheers Geoff http://youtu.be/mciFpu-ya-s http://youtu.be/x2OaLZq3614
13. I used to have an S15D and it was awesome. Great cabs.
14. I love the look of this bass and would love to try out that low B! Such a cool instrument.
15. I've played this bass several times and it's one of the nicest basses I've ever played. It sounds incredible and the set up is superb. It really is a fantastic instrument and Jamie is a top guy to deal with and has really looked after it.
16. Yes its hard to do something like that and keep your attention, but it really did what is an incredible building justice. I would love to go and spend some time in that bass room! I can't think of a better show room in which to try instruments.
17. They are incredible! Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lkmEj0CzLM
18. Epic! I hadn't heard of him before. What an awesome performance!
19.
wow, thanks Geoff, wasnt expecting that, i agree with the arm weight thing, and a bit more to the front would prob be good, where abouts in leeds are you Geoff? i was thinking of having you check my technique to be on the safe side and have now got a bow so could do with some advice there, thanks, Jez
Hey Jez, Im in Armley, feel free to give me a shout if you fancy a lesson. I'm not doing regular private teaching at the moment, but am sure I could find a spot if you did want some help. I think you are really on the right track though. Its great you get what I mean about the position of the bass to reduce the angle in the wrist. Good luck with your practice mate, cheers Geoff
20. I would insure it for £2750 and both Allianz and Endsleigh have been good to deal with for me in the past. I think I claimed once from Endsliegh and they were pretty good.
21. It doesn't look like I can go to any, but what an awesome thing to do. Check out the line up!
22. Great job Jez, your intonation is superb and I love your lines, very cool video! My only thought was you might want to have the bass angled a bit more open (facing forward) which may mean you can keep your left wrist straighter. It looked a bit too side on to me.... Perhaps also work on using more arm weight in the right hand, but really I though it looked very solid and your playing is fantastic!
