interesting guys. I love my DR Legend flatwounds so much that I am considering putting them on all my basses (a bit OTT I know, but I really like them). Any of you tried both and can compare?

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
When i got V7 (when they first came out) I emailed Sire about the bags and they sent me two free of charge (i had planned on getting a second V7, but haven't bothered yet). Now THATS good customer service :-) I see that Thomanns sell them for £60 now. They are nice bags but nothing you cant get close to for less money if you actualy need a bag and not just looking for a complete package.
yeah, I actually don't need one BUT because I'd seen so many unpacking Vic's with the case in it I was kind of expecting one even if the Thomann website doesn't say the item cones with one... -
And how is the neck thickness?
I love the neck. I am really used to a nice chunky neck as my first bass was a 50's style Fender P. This is nice a broad but thinnish to me. Super Comfortable. For the sound and feel I think this is a lot of bass for the money. A lot! -
Hey, I recently picked up one of these basses (the 5 string V7) and I'm really happy with it, but I just have it in an old soft bag which I'm a little nervous about throwing in the back of a van. I was wondering if anyone else has this bass and has found a good hardcase that fits it well? Any advice appreciated. Cheers, Jonathan
hey Jonathan what did you go for? I have a similar dilemma with my Sire v7 5 string... I want yo fly with it in the hold tho... hiscox large bass looks possible... I'm also thinking SKB but haven't really got the money for the 270£ one which gets a lot of praise...

I looked in to this a lot and have come to the conclusion that I will be making absolutely sure I can take my bass on the plane with me in a well made soft case. If I ever can't I will be purchasing an expensive skb tank of a case.

There was actually one small disappointment. It didn't come with one if those nice gig bags... -
Although I have my own stories, my favourite reason for quitting a band has to be an ex-drummers' from a band I am in. He quit because none of us could be bothered to use doodle to arrange rehearsals! He got frustrated & quit! That's why. We have a better drummer now & exchange a few emails to make date & time arrangements.

I love mine. Sounds amazing, feels amazing, its got a swiss army knifeness about it & its really light. Ebony Fretboard is super smooth too. Get one. I love it through my GK, Ampeg, straight in to my DAV & through my NEVE pre

Just got my Alder body 5 string the other day and love it. So much! Its an absolutely beautiful instrument to look at but feels & sounds really amazing. Haven't had time to set it up yet but been playing it as it came and its very playable. It is heavy! Its heavier than my Fender P. I bought it a mono strap though and it really helped. I'm gonna be rehearsing and gigging with it later this month so I'll have more to say after that. First impressions with it from home are very very positive. Great sound. Great! -
Did your Sire not cone with one? I thought they all did. Where did you get it from?
I didn't mean they're of poor quality. I mean, if you're a beginner, as most/many of Scotts members will be, it's a fantastic instrument to have. It's a good instrument for any of us. Sorry, I don't understand that. I too have got a lot out of Scotts lessons. When watching some you need to skip the banter, but at least with Scott you can do that.
fair enough yeah you can skip. I'm just not sure why exactly its there sometimes. I understand its a business he's running. all good.

(sorry about my "wrong" quote. I have gotten a lot out of SBL too. The ratio of lesson to time watching to find is a little low tho it has to be said. I suppose it doesn't matter so much tho!
Agreed Blue
I have heard differently. I have heard these basses are as good as 3x their price competitors. The production is all in house & there is no advertising which allowed for the price to be lower. I heard this from highly respected players off the record. I just bought one so I guess will be able to asses this for myself soon!
You could always tune in fifths...B F# C# G#, for example, though it would require a fairly extensive rethink of your way around the fretboard!
Sounds way LONG! I think a 5 string might just be the way, as standard as this may be!
-
Thanks for all your replies guys! I have to admit that after much thought & consideration I am now leaning against this! I found myself thinking "what if one day I want the low B but I need the G for something? I would then need yet another bass! Doesn't seem right. Today I played a Revelation 5 string... hmmm.... I like it! I think that may be what's going to happen..
