1. I went in to buy a pot(entiometer) once. It was exhausting. I asked for a 10k pot. The guy didn't know what it was. I asked for a 10k linear 16mm panel mount potentiometer. The guy still didn't know what it was. I described the function and appearance of a potentiometer. The guy still didn't know what it was. I found and pointed at it in the catalogue. The guy had never seen one before. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to. He went and got his supervisor. The entire process repeated. I asked if they could just let me in the stock room and I would find it myself. They said they couldn't do that. They both went to look for it. 10 minutes later they both returned. With a 1k pot. I left. I cried for the world.
2. Had a PA100 mk.1 for a while. Sold it. Regretted it immediately. Now have a PA100 mk.2 that I vow to never let go. Fantastic amps.
3. Picks have a very special property. When unobserved they can create micro-singularities, the gravitational pull then attracts the pick through the singularity and into the nth-dimensional nega-universe from which all picks originate. There is no way to reverse or mitigate this effect. If you take your eyes off a pick, it will disappear for ever. The only effective means of combating this is to buy what we scientists refer to as a "s**t-ton" of them.
4.
I wanted an Emma a while ago, not so much what I am after now but had no idea it suffered low end loss?
Can't say I experienced any low end loss personally. On it's own, it's mild to the point of indifference, you really have to dig in to get any kind of quack out of it. But run a fuzz into it and it really comes alive, every setting on it is useable and I never had any headroom issues, I've considered getting one again just for running with fuzz. I've come to the conclusion that a filter that sounds really great and quacky on it's own just has too many problems with fuzz. I've got a meatwad ant the moment. Great on it's own, but it takes a f***ing age to dial in any sort of useable sound with a fuzz, and even then I have to watch how hard I play for fear of making it mad.
5. I suspect Bilbo and I might be on the same page with this one, all I can see is The Scouring of the Shire...
6. I... kinda like it. Does that make me an awful person?
7.
What about Bb, B, Db, F, G, ? They don't have position markers either, or have I misread ?
In standard tuning (which is what we seem to be assuming), Bb is third fret on the G string, B is 9th fret on the D string, Db is 9th fret on the E string, F is 3rd fret on the D string and G is 5th fret on the D string, so all covered by fret markers.
8. Recording and mixing mine has taken about 4 billion times longer than expected, but it will be finished! I'll PM you the link when it's up.
9. The new St. Vincent album:
10.
Steady on Bob! That's a quirky time signature by your standards... Probably better to play it safe and use a more familiar 23/8 or maybe a 17/5?
Don't worry, there are predominant sections of 5/4 and 7/4, and a random bar of 13/8, I haven't gone totally crazy.
11. Recording begins tomorrow. Whaddyaknow, I've written a song that's over 50% 4/4. I'm proud of myself.
12. I've tried to like others, but they always just fall short of the mastotron. For me, it's the perfect fuzz pedal. The impedance control, the gate that isn't a gate but still works better than any other gate on a fuzz I've ever used, it's just perfect.
13.
i think for this reason id always check the cables with a multimeter. also is it just me or are the diago plugs basically george l's? andy
Better, the screw head means you can really tighten them, george L's you can only get finger tight. I plumped for a Diago kit in the end. Incredibly frustrating packaging aside they're working out pretty well.
14. Aye, it's Ben Verellen's band so it's probably a big spider into the Meat Smoke, or to be honest it could just be the meat smoke on it's own.
15. Entry taking shape. Experimenting with actually recording guitars this time instead of relying on VST's. Currently recording the 12th track titled "Wall of sound". Still doesn't sound big enough.
16. Bump with price drop.
17.
shouldn't we all be out boozing, who'd have thought midnight on a friday night was rush-hour for pedal updates!
I started mine at 7pm. Including an hour break for dinner and The Last Leg I've only just finished.
18. Been on a bit of a shopping spree: Super Synth will likely make way (financially and physically) for an expression pedal and one of those mission multi-expression majiggys, as I now have 3 expression capable pedals and no expression pedal.
19.
Have you heard GarethFlatland's band InFictions?
If I recall correctly he was also in 65daysoftstaic when they made one of my top 10 albums of all time, The Fall of Math:
20. Got a lot of new stuff incoming, including another fuzz, so time to move this on: The enclosure has some imperfections from the acid-etching process but otherwise it's in excellent condition. No box but it will be wrapped in enough bubble wrap to carpet a small house. In the spirit of good karma, I'll let this go for what I paid, which thanks to a particularly sluggish eBay auction was [s]£90 posted special delivery[/s]. Sold pending the usual. Possibly interested in trades, but the only things I'm actively seeking are an expression pedal or a mastotron. Always interested in something interesting though, but please no Fuzz (that's not a mastotron), Dist, OD, Octaver, Filter, Phaser or Tremolo pedals, I'm currently set. Interested mainly in noise/bit crusher stuff, a delay, or something wacky.

Patch cables

It's been literally years since I bought a patch cable, what are we all using now? George L's seem to be very hard to get hold of and Lava's seem to only be sold in expensive kits. I just need a few but I don't have an idea of layout yet so I'd prefer to buy some cable and plugs and make them up myself. I'm looking at solderless because they seem to have the lowest profile connectors (I'm ideally looking for a George L sort of profile) but I spend most of my working day soldering so if anyone knows of any equal small solderable plugs that would be grand.
22. Oh dear. I've been on a bit of a shopping spree. Mastotron, Super Synth, Tremulus Lune and Meatwad all incoming. Anybody want to buy a lung?
23. Is it just single core or is it multicore with a stiff insulation?
24. Shin-ei in it's more permanent home: Not the neatest wiring job ever, and I'm definitely not an artist, but it works dagnabbit. Where do you all get that super stiff looking wire from, is it just single core? I experimented with varnishing the board (we use anti-tracking varnish at work) and I think I'll be doing it as standard from hence on, no more pissing about with insulation tape.
25. Behold what happens when you think you've got an enclosure that will do but don't check: Shin-Ei companion fuzz, circuit sounds great, although I had to get creative with some caps to get to the right values, should be good once I get an enclosure drilled out properly.
