1. Well the Novation bag is easily obtainable for £30 from a few places and it looks to have a decent sized front pocket which is nice. I'd definitely be investing in one, but I do have a bit of an obsession with making sure everything I own has a proper case. It can/does affect resale value though so that's my excuse...
2.
The demo by Roey Haviv on you tube is prob about the best one out there on this pedal
+1 to this. Roey Haviv's demos all seem to be very useful. His DOD Meatbox one basically inspired me to spend a lot of money completely redoing my pedalboard though so beware!
3. Hmmm. Have you tried the Source Audio Aftershock? Watch a couple of demos online. You can get pretty much any OD/distortion/fuzz sound imaginable out of that thing. I've barely scratched the surface of mine but I'm pretty sure I'll never need to buy another OD pedal again.
4. To be honest unless you're planning on singing a foot to the side of the mic and expecting it to sound great, which I doubt you are, you should be fine with an ordinary D5. The off axis response isn't life-changingly different from a standard cardioid but you'll appreciate the feedback rejection.
5. Ah I thought you might have been bidding on that one - I was watching it but didn't bother bidding this time. Hope you enjoy it!
6. What about them is a pain in the arse?
7. Wow, very nice. Never heard of Paul Everson but he's on my radar now!
8. AKG D5 for me. Cheaper than an sm58 and, in my opinion, much better/clearer sounding.
9.
I'd have to try it, but the Digitech won't play ball with any other pedal daisy chained to it, even off of a battery pack, though I haven't tried a 'semi-isolated' supply (the type that isn't galvanically isolated) .
Hence why I'd have a Timelord isolating the Smooth Hound. That way neither the Smooth Hound nor the Digitech will "see" each other, and your Digitech will have a full 1A of current available at all times.
10. My "in progress" board is being powered by a couple of Rockboard Power LT XLs. They each have 2 9v outputs which run at 1A apiece. I've dedicated one output to my Smooth Hound (with a Gigrig Timelord and polarity reversing adapter in between) and have daisy chains running from the 3 outputs I have left. I could have gotten away with just the one Power LT but I decided 2 would be best for battery life. Having 2 power sources isolates my effects into 2 completely separate groups by default which is a nice bonus even without the Timelord With my setup, you could dedicate one Rockboard LT XL to just the Digitech and the Smooth Hound - The Digitech plugged straight in and the Smooth Hound with a Timelord feeding it. The second LT XL will then happily power your remaining pedals. The whole setup costs around £140 and leaves you with just a single cable running from your board to your amp. You won't look back!
11. To be honest I wanted a Ultranova for ages. I've used a mininova in a show before and it sounded good but a part of me is enamoured with the idea of an analogue synth even if it means losing the option of polyphony...I may end up eventually getting both, who knows! BS2 first though I reckon. Basses & leads are more my thing synth-wise than pads etc.
12. If it's any consolation I'd probably be buying this if I wasn't so far from home at the moment. These are very lovely instruments.
13. Beautiful. I didn't know they did a fretless version of this.
14.
I was actually looking for a Roland VR-09 but they seem to have disappeared second hand since they have gone up.
If you're within striking distance of Derby there's a used one on gumtree at the moment.
15. Definitely sounded a bit fishy. Oh well, I'm not in any major rush to buy so I'll just patiently wait for other deals to come up. In the meantime I'll have to satisfy myself with as many BS2 YouTube demos as I can find...
16. Yep, I would have bought that £230 BIN one but a couple of the knobs were a bit dodgy (missing the rubber I believe) and I couldn't be arsed with that. Would've irritated my mild OCD!
17. I know what you mean about the controls, but for me it would probably just be a set & forget scenario. So I can have an active (EQ'd) tone and a passive tone at the flick of a switch
18. Haha I reckon so! Sold for ~£220 I think. My highest bid was £215
19. Here's the progress so far: I invested in a Pedaltrain Classic 2 which I think is the perfect size for my needs. The gaps you can see will be filled by Bright Onion pedals soon - I have a pending order which should hopefully be with either next week or the week after. Still waiting on my Micro Thumpinator too. The whole board will be powered by 2 Warwick Rockboard LT XLs. The only trailing cable is from from the board to the amp! Glorious.
20. I narrowly missed out on a used BS2 on eBay a couple of days ago. Classic bidding war with <10 seconds left. I was not a happy bunny!
21. I got it right and I don't own one. I just assumed the sire would have a slightly fatter sound and was correct!
22. Not on bass, but I'm actually a singer first and foremost and accompany myself on piano on a few numbers. Usually when wooing a lady. I'm absolutely useless on guitar. Literally the only thing I can play is "Wild Thing".
23. The whole Sire range is just bass porn. Good lord. I'm torn between this - https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/P7SWAMASH4TS/electric-basses/sire-marcus-miller-p7-swamp-ash-4-string-tobacco-sunburst And this - https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/V7SWAMASH4TS/electric-basses/sire-marcus-miller-v7-swamp-ash-4-string-tobacco-sunburst I slightly prefer the Jazz aesthetically but would probably end up going with the PJ for tone tbh...
24.
No, good to know incase the supplied PSU fails. Cheers
No problem, let us know how it works out. Hopefully I'll be getting myself a BS2 soon and I want to power it off my board.
25. UPDATE I've had a couple of days to play with my Smooth Hound system and so far I'm loving it. A couple of red bars are lit up to indicate a bit of interference since I have a WiFi booster unit about 12 feet away from the my pedalboard. Not had any dropouts though - connection has remained strong and stable (so to speak. Ha.) One thing I did notice was that playing through my Phil Jones Bighead it seemed like I had a very faint high pitched whine when running the Smooth Hound through my fx chain and into the input. It was powered with the standard power supply, separate from the daisy chain powering my pedals. There didn't seem to be any hum when running through my practice monitor speaker though so it could just as easily have been the Bighead or something in my fx chain. I'll do a little troubleshooting later on without any of my other pedals. It was only just noticeable when I wasn't playing anything so really not a deal breaker at all. Overall it's a lovely, streamlined system and I'm very happy with it! Oh and I took a few pictures to show the scale of the transmitter and receiver - I was surprised by how small and light they both are. They feel very well built but the receiver in particular weighs almost nothing and the heaviest thing about the transmitter is the batteries. That's an ordinary iPhone 6, not a 6 Plus.
