1. I really like the look of that. The matte black hardware is a winner for me but it imagine some will hate it!
2. And after a bit of witchcraft with distances and gaps, here's the (pretty much) finished product! It all works as planned and I'm very pleased with the result but if I never see another patch cable again it'll be too soon I need to neaten up the power cables but I'll sort that out another time. And with the diagram for reference:
3. Got some treats delivered from Bright Onion today. Once they're hooked up the only thing I'll be waiting for to complete the board is my Micro Thumpinator. Which seems to be taking FOREVER. The wait is quite frustrating actually. I could have had a custom cab built in less time...
4. Wow. That's almost a year between bumps I have a Meatbox and love it. It's a must have IMO for anyone wanting to make noise and shake walls! GLWTS.
5. In fairness it seems like any issues people have had with the system have been dealt with in a swift and professional manner by Chris. I don't have any doubts customer service wise. And there are plenty of folk out in the wild having zero problems at all so I won't stress about it.
6. This is slightly concerning news as I've just bought one...I'm really not a player who does a whole lot of "moving" while playing though and I'm quite careful with gear in general so hopefully it won't be an issue. Fingers crossed.
7.
Space being at a premium for many bass players, my former firm KeyShyyyk invented woolen guernseys with a keyboard pattern knitted in on the front and MIDI wiring or similar coming out at the back. Great gear for live situations, but many punters sadly thought it was just show, and that we had a backing tape. We had two models: - with resistance threads woven in: the WoolKiey, - with physical pressure points behind the wool: the KeyBacka.
Please tell me you have photos? On the subject of the SY300 - I loosely considered it, watched a few demos, sounded good. Until I saw the price tag and realised I could buy at least 2 small keyboard synths with the money it costs.
8. Conan speaks a lot of sense here. Excellently summed up.
9. Just looked at the auction again. I happen to be only a couple of hours from Glasgow at the moment - god help me. My only saving grace is having other priorities at the moment. Saying that, if this were fretless I'd be in trouble
10. Polytune clip for me. Needle and strobe mode available. You'll never want to get rid of it.
11.
Credit where it's due: the SM58's been a reliable go-to for donkey's years
You do have a point - the thing is built like a tank. I remember seeing a video a couple of years ago of some Shure guys burying an SM58 a foot or two underground in the front lawn of Shure HQ. When they dug it up a year later and plugged it in it was still producing signal. If ever there was a benchmark for roadworthiness!
12. +1. Any time I've lent my MP75 to friends for open mic nights etc. they tell me it's been a dream to work with.
13. On a serious note though, glad it's living up to expectations! Would you say it cures all temptation to buy a Moog Sub Phatty?
14. Ah yes, lest we forget that bloody handling charge! Good thing I asked... Thanks for the heads up about Thomann stock though.
15. Given the breadth of suggestions here I think it's safe to say that there are a ton of mics out there which do a better job than an SM58 and cost less. It's just the stubbornness of sound engineers which has kept them on the pedestal of being "The Industry Standard"...
16. ...but what will the customs import fees bump the price up to?
17.
Just completed this: https://soundfly.com/courses/synth-bass-for-bass-players Really helpful information on the instrument and many helpful tips too.
I've just gone through the course - very good. And free which is always welcome. Now, if you have a couple of hours to burn: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rrn1T9tpljo
18. Turns out the high pitched whine was coming from/being exacerbated by something elsewhere in the signal chain... Still a big thumbs up for my Smooth Hound!
19. Glad to hear you have a keeper! Has she had any gigging action yet?
20. How about this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tiger-Heavy-Duty-Laptop-Stand-Projector/dp/B01MRMF2TQ/ref=sr_1_19?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1497282748&sr=1-19&keywords=Laptop+stand A much smaller footprint if square-footage is an issue in your playing environment?
21. I think pickup switches can be excellent. I'd hazard a guess that 95% of us, like you, only use blend pots in 3 positions anyway so a switch just makes life easier. I'm a bit in love with the switch on my Yamaha BB.
22.
I used to use a PG58, which is shures cheaper version of the SM58. But I was using a voicelive so I wanted some control on it, so I went for a TC Helicon MP75. Quite expensive in the UK, but remarkably cheap in the US, so imported one and it has been loads better for my voice and feedback control.
I was actually going to suggest th TC Helicon mics as they're (to me) a step up in clarity over the AKG but the TC is hypercardioid and you really do feel the volume dropoff when you aren't properly on axis. Excellent feedback rejection though! I'd heartily recommend them for a solo or lead vocalist.
