    I'm not totally sure without listening to the track, but it looks like the first bar could be something like this: Beats 1-2: starts on the 3rd of Ebm7 (Gb), with a chromatic passing note (G) connecting to the 4th degree (Ab). Classic funk move! Beats 3-4: Fb - A - Eb outlines Fbmaj7. This could be called modal borrowing (taking a chord from another key)- Fbmaj7 isn't a chord that occurs 'naturally' in the key of Eb minor, but it is Eb Phrygian. The Db tied over the end of the barline is the 7th of Ebm7 (rising chromatically to the root note). Any help?

    For sale is my MTD KZ6. I'm a bit broken up about selling it to be honest- it's a really flexible, expressive instrument and a joy to play. It's been my main gigging bass for the last 2-3 years and has picked up a few dings along the way, but is otherwise in excellent shape. I've tried to photograph the cosmetic flaws as clearly as I can- if you would like any other pictures feel free to ask. For anyone wondering, here is a link to the spec: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MTD_KZ6_SA_RW.html It weighs in at around 3.8kg. String spacing is 18mm. Fitted with Fender strap locks, which obviously are included! I'm looking for £500 including postage and a generic hard case, or £470 collected. If you'd rather have it delivered without a hardcase, I'll knock of £20 and post it in a fairly beaten-up MTD gig bag. I'm based near Leicester- happy to meet up or drive within a reasonable distance. I'm keeping an open mind trade-wise- I'm particularly interested in a 5 string (possibly with cash your way).     Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but I've played quite a bit of house (90's and some more current stuff) on cover/party gigs. Bands I've played with have done Lady, Freed from Desire, Music Sounds Better With You, Ready for Your Love (Gorgon City- mad bass hook) and some of Calvin Harris tunes, most of which seem to have a pretty high dance floor filling potential... My experience is that dance stuff can work really well, but you have to be careful to differentiate the structures in terms of tone (bring all your FX ) and dynamics, whilst resisting the temptation to get noodly with the main patterns/lines. When the material is so repetitive, it's super easy to go into naff-jam territory. It's helpful in terms of vibe if the drummer plays an SPDX pad- you've got to have those clap snares!

    I am absolutely in favour of 'like the music you like', but I really don't get this! Why shouldn't a player utilise the full scope of their instrument if it serves to realise their musical/compositional/expressive goals?

[/quote] I play for The Distractions pretty regularly- like Len_derby said we definitely do play some crowd-pleasing cheese, but we try to cover as many bases as possible and cater to the clients tastes/needs wherever possible. Clients have some say over the setlist- they can veto songs they don't like (within reason!) and request three songs for us to learn. Si [/quote] +1 they play like butter. I'm no P bass expert, but I picked up a Sandberg Electra P recently and I really love it. I don't think it quite does the classic P bass thing but the Delano-esque pickup sounds great, really clear and expressive.

You might be able to get somewhere near it with the Markbass SS... I think there might be some kind of ring modulation on the recording though, which the SS doesn't have. Cool sound though

    I had a Jake for a short period- it was an absolute joy to play. Amazingly light, balanced & tone for days. Someone will be super pleased with this.

    So my current pride-of-pedalboard is a Markbass synth pedal, which I'm running an octave pedal in front of for added poundage. Currently, this is a Dr Green Octadose, which is pretty much fine, if a bit glitchy. It only really falls down when I compare it to the octaver on the Markbass pedal, which is absolutely huuuuuge: it just seems to lack character and presence. I'd like something which could provide a bit of octave-y variety or a different character to the Markbass octave, as well as track as well as possible! I'd been thinking about the TC sub n up mini, or the EBS octaver. If any of you learned Basschat sages have any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it!

    Bought a Markbass Super Synth from Brian yesterday, absolutely no problems! Had a chat and tried out the pedal with his awesome Overwater jazz. Top guy.
