1.
Ok thanks, that's interesting. Maybe I'll have a try on one again with that in mind.
If you are coming to the DB bash then I will put it in the car. Tell me if you are.

Rewinding pickups

I have just picked up a 2nd hand Harley Benton 335. The pickups might be lush, but they are probably not. Is there any point in rewinding them or should I just pick up a 2nd hand pair of decent pickups?
3.
Thanks, TheRev. Promenade only have the NS in stock, and personally I don't really like them. More like an upright fretless than a DB, IMHO.
I used to have an NS which was very similar to an upright fretless. Then I jacked the bridge up and put DB strings on it. Now it does not sound like an upright fretless.
4. The braided and honey ones bow fine and dandy. For obvious reasons the Rockabillys bow horribly.
5. I do not need another bass so should not even be looking but that is as nicely a grained body as I have seen on a P. If I was looking for a P that would probably be it.
6.
EW300 G2 is balanced/unbalanced XLR. (This was changed for combo jacks on G3). Im guessing an XLR is in use - the outputs on the desk are balanced XLRs - so it's going to be balanced XLR to XLR.
I would not be looking for phase issues. Totally not. Nope
7. I must admit that I would be looking for some possibility of phase issues. Balaned output but mono jack going to some sort of balanced at the other end?
8. If I was anywhere near you I would have this. Proper lush.
9. I saw SRV back in the day. I have not played a Dumble but his was so loud that the rhythm section were reduced to bit part players.
10. Is the wiring on the Sandberg correct? It sounds like there might be a phase issue.

12. Danish Double Bassists intimidate me.
13. The event is in The Risely Park. I imagine it has been booked by BassAce in his own name as a private function so they would look confused if you mentioned a Double Bass Bash. I hope that clarifies
14.
If you're bringing a Howlett, Owen, I may have to bring a B-stock Deko Harley Benton from Thomann so that we can A/B them.
I will not 0ut the NS in unless anyone REALLY wants to try one.
15. Based on using one and an A&H analogue desk with the same rig I am not convinced that the Mackie delivers proper grownup line level. I have never seen anything about it online but I always have to whack the vol up on the speakers with the Mackie.
16. Yet again I come to realise that fretless is just not for me. This is a Mexican Jazz that a student of mine bought a Fender Mexican fretless neck to put on it. It does all the things a fretless does including, for me, playing out of tune. This never fails to amaze me becaue I am a DB player and intonation is not an issue on that but I have never "got" fretlesses. I am now old enough to know bette, but that never seems to stop me trying. Ho hum. I will throw the sticker on the back in as a free gift cos I am good that way. 17. Just booked a bed for the night before and a meal date for me and a book. A bit of quality time with myself
18.
I know! A few years back, I decided that having some simple, clear priorities would help in these situations. They are these: 1 Family. 2 Friends. 3 Music. 4 Work. So that's that. Family first.
Ho hum But priorities in the right place. Cannot fault them.
19.
Three drivers in a 2.7 ohm cab suggests they are all 8 ohm drivers wired in parallel. Not much scope for useful rewiring - unless you want a 12 or 24 ohm cab A 5.3 ohm cab would likely use three 16 ohm drivers in parallel. Handy calculator here: http://www.1728.org/resistrs.htm
BC always delivers
20.
Argh! I am no longer able to attend the DBB because I will be celebrating my brother in law's 50th. Ah well, swings and roundabouts and all that. Please post some pictures and tell me all about it.. I will be mostly drinking gin.
This is a very poor show.
21. The Epifani one is 5.3 ohms. A 4 ohm minimum head would not be very happy being driven down to 2.7ohms. The magic smoke might well come out of the amp. Someone who is cleverer than me will be along soon who will be able to guess the impedance of the individual speakers and give other impedance options by re-wiring it.

A hot knife. Sadly not going as fast as a hot knife through butter.
