The event is in The Risely Park. I imagine it has been booked by BassAce in his own name as a private function so they would look confused if you mentioned a Double Bass Bash. I hope that clarifies
Yes. Many thanks.

I know what it's like. I first started with my left handed friend's bass. I'd play it as a right hander. I turned things around when I finally decided to buy one for myself and found it okay after a bit of self-adjustment. Now I can dress on either side with relative ease. Heeheehee.

Despite dropping hints, leaving little clues and outright begging... I NEVER got the orgy I wanted for my fiftieth. Bah! Just wait 'till my seventieth, then he'll see.

I have just taken delivery of a used Trace Elliot cab from Chris. I am very happy with how the deal went. Chris is a nice chap. We had a little negotiation over the details and arrived at an easy transaction. I'd recommend Chris highly if you are considering dealings with him. The cab is great too. Can't wait to give it a thorough rattling later on.
See post #4.
Thanks Jack. I had read that before. Posts #3 and #5 of yours prompted me to visit the venue for myself. We saw the Risley Park but as you said, no mention of a Hotel on the signage. The place next door, the Risley Hall Hotel is a health spa and to paraphrase from J J Cale's song it looked like "Momma don't allow no bass in this place". Yet the Risley Park function room has a private booking (possibly the one we're on about) for Oct 2nd but it does not say it is for the Double Bass Bash. Just a little more clarity might help for those who don't come from this region.

Rehearsal room: "Can you lock up when you leave, please?"
SpondonBassed replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
The last two rehearsal rooms we've used, we've been given the keys and asked to switch off all lights, make sure the goods lift doors are properly in place, check that nobody else is in the building and lock everything up when we leave. Now, I personally think it's the owners' responsibility to secure their own premises at lock-up time, not ours. I said this to the owner of our current rooms and he got a bit defensive, saying he couldn't see any problem. Any thoughts?
Is the owner looking for a gull for when he fires the building for the insurance claim maybe? It is not your responsibility. -
All I can say is that you'd need to be a pretty good player to be preoccupied with this and not with trying to underpin the song all the way through.
Yeah, but they're drummers. Drummers can lose anything, and probably will. Bass players are superior beings who always know exactly where everything is, including their towels.
..and they almost never have to quote from Douglas Adams' H2GT2G unless provoked by drummers.

12. SpondonBassed. A Vantage fretless electric bass guitar and Ashdown combo. Thanks Bluejay. Barring misfortune I will be there and will pay on the day unless you message me otherwise. I have tweaked line 12 of your post. Can you clarify which of the two places with Risley in the name the venue is please? We went down the other day and neither the Risley Park nor the Risley Hall Hotel recognised the booking. I suspect it is the Risley Park. As stated above somewhere, it does not have the word "hotel" in its name.

Welcome Ricky.
Not at the moment I'm afraid. I have considered approaching the band regarding a transcription book however. I guess there might be an appetite for it...? Stuart
It sounds good. Would you be discounting for BC members? I'd be interested in a tab book.

Er, can I change my answer...? Heeheehee. Good luck. I haven't hooked up with a local drummer yet.

What's your favourite source of drum beats or backing tracks?
SpondonBassed replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Good morning fellow bassists, I'm a newbie and absolutely loving this place. I use some isolated drum tracks from youtube, an app called drumgenius and the odd backing track to jam along to. Oh, and I've just tried the drum part of Garageband on the girlfriends iPad. Does anybody have any wisdom to better my arsenal on this. Please share any pearls. I'd like to buy a drum machine that didn't require an A level to program or just something I could hit for funk, rock, blues, that kind of thing. Incidentally, drumgenius, which was tipped to me by notreble.com is really worth a look, especially if you're a jazzy kind of cat. Any ideas would be well received in the Falcon. Warp speed........ Chewie
Welcome Chewie. The only backing tracks I've ever used come from "play along" tab books that have a disc with two versions of each song. One with bass and one without. More often I'll just play over a yooboob clip that I like. I have a Roland TR606 but it doesn't save and even left powered up has not got a reliable memory. I do like that it is there though, just in case. -
I want to suggest he works with a click/metronome so it's at least in time.
I'd say you've answered your own question. That has to be a reasonable option to at least try. I mean, if he gets something out of it too, everyone wins. He'd have to be pretty ignorant to think he wont benefit from improving himself. Don't we all need to think like that?

Welcome Garth. Good luck with the gig.

Cheap tuners - good value or waste of money?
Cheers! Click on the Myspace link in my sig, and The Gift and When It's All Over are on that bass. Crumbs.. recorded over 8 years ago! Rather like this one as well, although glad to report I've had a haircut since! https://www.youtube....h?v=w3AfKFkErR4
Thanks for the yooboob link. If you have a myspace link in your sig file it will not show up here. I run script blockers and social networks are on the blocking list. -
A professional setup on a quality bass should not allow any fret buzz. but i suppose its up down to personal preference as to how much is acceptable for you.
I am a realist though.

Welcome Ixlramp. Nice to know we have a member with more than a passing interest in ERB.

I am surprised no-one has mentioned ageism by name in this discussion. In the front-line of "the business", live performance, isn't ageism actually an integral and dare I say necessary part of the job? It seems folk are afraid of the word in these PC times.
You've been overdoing the James Joyce again. Stop it. Stop it now.
I'll drink to that! OT - Wasn't there a game that allowed you to plug in your own (real) instruments? I forget the name but I thought it looked like a good practice aid. No?
In the Twenties, all of the 'in' people were heavily into rowing clubs, in flannels and boaters; the girls with long ostrich-feather boas . Roller-skating was all the rage, with rinks in every High Street. Kids aspired to become boxers, or wing-walkers for the less timid. The jitterbug was about to break. Times change, sometimes faster than one would like, but change they do.
Crikey Dad, you need to change your screen name to great great grand Dad if you're recalling that from experience!
Is this guy the next big bass hero? Only just got into them, after seeing their name being bandied about for months now. Joe's feel, sense of groove and dynamics utterly floored me. Just an upsettingly good player, right up my street and has really inspired me to practice my butt off.
It doesn't upset me. He's a joy to watch. It looks like he's loving every beat. I must try listening without the vid and see if it changes my perception.
D'ya reckon kids these days don't give a monkey's left tit how well someone can cut it on a guitar, drum kit etc?
Yup. Superficiality is king these days. Doesn't bode well for the care homes in my old age so I'll probably do the humane thing for myself instead.
