Function bands. How not to look like catering staff?
SpondonBassed replied to uk_lefty's topic in General Discussion
Sorted. -
One of the reasons I like playing bass is that, as a general rule for the music I like, there is someone between me and the crowd, ie: the guitarist/singer. Not being the centre of attention yet being a key part of the performance is what I seek. I don't do well in crowds unless I am occupied with a task such as bass. I see the singing bassist being a stage in my development that will help overcome some of my lifelong fears with regard to crowds and crowd behaviour in particular. That's my ultimate aim. It means I must make mine an impeccable groove, as mentioned by MK in a song a long time ago. Without going into detail, my upbringing has turned me out as a confirmed loner. It's not good for me in the long run so I have to make extra effort to keep in touch with the living, as it were. It doesn't matter whether you are on-stage or in the mosh-pit, music is a great ice breaker.

Someone has already raised the question of how this sort of joint will affect truss rod adjustment. I think I see it more as how will truss rod adjustment affect the extended butt joint. Is it to be bonded other than with the four screws? I'm guessing not. That suggests a gap may appear over time toward the end of the upper bout join. -
In some ways I feel it as challenging as I did when I first realised I'd have to eventually play for actual people. By people I mean those who aren't friends who would give me a street opinion because they don't know me personally. The buzz from meeting that milestone and passing it was worth the efforts leading up to that point. I expect it will be the same sort of buzz if I can get to do the singing bassist thing.

Excellent! What about teeshirts with printed waistcoats and ties on them? -
Personally, I am glad we aren't catering for site hoppers. Crikey! Isn't it easy enough to site hop without yet another ruddy app? It's not really like we actually need the casual trade either.

I can sing. I can play. Although much improvement is needed on both, I feel I am getting closer and closer to doing both together one day. I'd love to carry it off well though. One of the things that is pushing me towards that goal is that I can't get to jam these days. It strikes me that I should use the time I have on my hands at home to get ready to solo at an OM when I can get out and about again. Gawd help the lot of you!

Funkatopia's Best Funk Albums of 2018

It's interesting to see an album by Chic on the list. I might have that. I got Dimitri from Paris Presents le Chic Remix last year. It's got instrumental versions alongside vocal versions of their great hits. Dimitri doesn't suffocate the original masters with unnecessary DJ nonsense. I love it. Thanks for the link. -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Naked_(band) Perhaps a change of name for the band and then dress appropriately. No-one is going to ask you to bring the hors d'oeuvres after that. -
Welcome Pete.

Yeah. She's not for turning either, so I am told. -

Yes. It's helped make me the musician I am today. I struggle finding TAB for kazoo though. -

Oi! I'll not sit silent while there is any hint of Tina bashing here. She's fine by me. I was interested to hear a bit more about her and less about David Byrne or Chris Frantz. What happened to Tina was a bit like what happened to me in Dublin at the time. I was pulled into a band before I knew it was something I'd enjoy by friends who needed a bassist. Behave yourself or I'll have her go all Mrs T on you. -
I want to see him do the spider on a sixer! Just saying because that little exercise used to tie me in knots on my five. I can't imagine doing it on a sixer.

Someone here described it as looking a bit like a kazoo in a topic not very long ago. Just thought I'd resurrect the notion. I am just as likely to use one as I am the other. I remember being given one at a very early age in a primary school band lesson. We didn't have the benefit of Google back then. -

Yes. I got that. I was really only having a pop at the comment above from someone who seemed disappointed that Fender wasn't endorsed loudly enough although I suspect that said comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek. I think of myself as a bass player because it is the only bass instrument that I play and it happens to be called a bass. I'd love to be a bassist though and be able to play any instrument that occupies the lower registers. Interesting to see Vulfpeck's Jack Stratton as a contributer. -

Yes. I noticed that too. Did you catch which SDGR she had?
