1.
Thanks guys, I'm quite liking the look of the Kickback 12, whilst the A100 looks like better value but a bit less portable but I could happily buy it and be in no rush at all to sell my current stuff (though I would eventually have to get round to it). I think I'll be doing some research and taking a trip in to town to check them out. Eden Nemesis combos do look viable if I could get a decent deal.
There was an Eden combo on here not so long ago IIRC? Don't know if it sold.... One thing about the Hartkes is that they're made in China now and the baffle boards are prone to working loose on the cheaper stuff (well mine are anyways!). My VX cab did it and my A70 does it past 12 o'clock on the volume (it's retired now as it's my bedroom amp so doesn't get anywhere near that). Fixed the VX with a pack of screws (took about 40 mins) and will have to do the same on the combo. The VX was fine afterwards btw. If you were further up north you could have a look at my housemate's kickback 15 he's sellin (it's USA made). He's a lazy sh1t so i've pretty much given up selling his gear for him after he didn't reply to 2 contacts i gave him The A70 has a 12" speaker too, i used it with a 5 string and it was very clear and didn't flake out
2. Not really a fan of relics, some look ok some don't. If people want them then what's wrong with Fender building them? The only thing which taints the idea is the price, which suggests the target audience for relics (Fender ones anyway) is the born-again middle-aged wannabe rockstar (apologies to all born-again middle-aged rockstars!). I've not seen a working musician playing one but know plenty who have bought the Standard series in the last few years The best bit about wear and tear on an instrument is the fact it's your playing doing it, my old Warwick feels like MY bass cos i've done countless gigs with it. You can't buy that If i wanted a relic bass i'd get a highway one and sell the case! Two months later, bob's your uncle!
3. Eden do some very capable combos. I've done small gigs in the past with a Hartke A70, they also do an A100 and the 120w kickbacks, all go for small money
4.
I'm not entirely sure that it will be loud enough for my pub band with no PA support so may look into getting another efficient cab like my Schroeder 1212L but with more drivers to push more air.
Do you use the stand when you don't go through the PA? I have the same stand (and a very similar rig) and i only use the stand when i play much bigger gigs when the amp is purely for backline. I lost volume and tone as soon as i lifted the Schroeder off the floor. However, standing it on it's side i've played gigs without going through the PA and it's been plenty loud enough. That's with the world's loudest drummer too!
5. Looks strange, some parts look nearly finished (general shaping and routing). Then you look at the neck and it looks like he's been hacking at it with meat cleaver!
6. All gone apart from the VX cab which is going out on loan to myth_ste for a while, pm if interested! Cheers Steve
7. Ok, here's my Zoot Deluxe Custom bought earlier this year. Followed by my Warmoth Fretless Then my old faithful Warwick Corvette Ash Standard And finally my Squier Standard Jazz, which is yours for £130 inc. case!
8. Not really up on USA Fender prices. Does this mean a jazz will be about £800? Can't you get a Shuker for under £700? Bet they'll still sell loads though. . . . .

Cables

Got some Warwick ones to tide me over till i can raise more money. £15 for 5 delivered (always buy a couple spare!). I'll let you know what they're like when i get em EDIT: Like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARWICK-20CM-PATCH-C...1742.m153.l1262
10. It's 2x12 or 2x10 or a combination of the two. Schroeders have a second speaker behind and angled upwards (where that big hole is) I recently changed from a full stack to a Little Mark II and a Schroeder 1212r and couldn't be happier. My band mates are eternally grateful as i can carry my amp and cab in one go!
11. +1 for the bubinga bodied active basses, remember being very impressed with these when i was younger. Mind you, don't know how they'd compare to cheaper stuff nowadays. Also played an active Stingray copy which was average in every way! Sounded ok but felt a little cheap
12. Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Nothing tricky but teaches you a lot. Was the first song i ever learned to play!
13. Warwicks?
14. Not really interested in trying them (i'm 6'5" so would look a bit silly!) but think it's a cracking idea. Reckon you'd do well to let bass teachers know about this, i found it very difficult finding a suitable bass for my nephew (he's 10 now), he ended up with a short scale guitar
15. I have no idea how good or bad i may be. I do know, however, that i need more basses and 2 or 3 louder amps
16. The Blowtorch and the M80 are both big-sounding distortions. Passed my Blowtorch on to get an M80 but haven't found one yet! They are both fuzz-like, but more polite and offer more definition I've also just got the Owen Bass Gremlin (Manchester-made pedal) which is exactly what i was after, a snip too at £60. If you want something extremely hi-gain have a listen to the danelectro black licourice/black paisley pedals. They're a bit noisy but offer massive amounts of low end distortion as well as an octave switch! I got the black licourice off ebay for £12 delivered so it pays to keep an eye out I didn't like boss pedals either, never found one i could use with bass
17.
Billy is a scientologist, is he? Oh no. My heart just sank!
Yeah i read it in an interview, he doesn't like to talk about it. Probably cos it's a massive embarrassing con, but there you go!
18. I sold my 5 for £200 IIRC, although i had sanded it down and stained it (looked better than when i got it!)
19. I recently converted from Elites (used em for 5 years) to Elixirs, loving it but not really what i'd use for metal. When i did play a lot of metal i used LaBella Hard Rockin Steels and found them to be excellent for that style, i think i ended up using the 50 - 110s as i broke the thinner ones. Jason Newsted used em in metallica and he hammers his basses, plus they're cheap too
20. Obligtory plug for my cabs: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25107 Btw i didn't really like the VX 4x10 cabs. I've had 2 VX cabs (this 2x15" and the 1x15" + 2x8" + horn, the vx1508), the 4x10s didn't really jump out at me. For me they sounded less defined than the others in the range. I used the 1508 with the HA3000 head and the 215 with the ha3000 and ha5500 heads, both cabs were very good full range cabs. I did quite a few gigs with both and was always happy with the results, not to mention the power handling of the vx215 at 4ohms Although bass_ferret is right in saying you should get out there and listen to what sounds best, everyone has to go through the process of finding this out for themselves. I've seen players using gear which makes them sound great but has made me sound sh1t! It's down to what suits you. God knows i've been through a few rigs, some i've liked more than others. Another point i'd like to add is that the big Hartke rigs don't sound the same as the combos. I have the A70 (cracking little amp) and could never get the same sound out of the stack and half stacks i've owned, esp the ones involving cabs with the paper cones. The 500w XL stack i had was pretty much there As said previously, there's loads to choose from in the for sale section, everything is at rock bottom prices at the moment so take advantage of our poverty! I wish i'd been a member of this site for a lot longer, would have saved myself a fortune! Ta Steve
21. +1 to both the above solutions (+2 then?) I use matches, i heard something about the cooks matches being the most suitable because of the wood or something, not sure how true that is though... In my youth i used Milliput, but suppose any decent filler would be a more permanent solution
22. EBS Multidrive, bought recently for £70 posted so i'd like that back Dead easy to use, just drive and volume knobs and the 3 way selector switch to choose the drive type. Please note these require a dedicated pedal power supply (or batteries ) as they are very noisy when using just a cheapy universal job. It works fine with my pedalboard supply, danelectro supply and generic boss-style adapter. Just thought it was worth mentioning as it confused me for about a week when i got it! Also has an active/passive switch and a phantom power option (so you can power it off EBS amps via the jack lead i think, please let me know if this is wrong!) Cheers Steve
23. Ahh, looks different to the chaser. Think the chaser had a MM at the bridge and a J at the neck, also has the low pass switch (although i don't use the one on mine) If you're ever near sunny Blackpool you're welcome to try mine!
