    I for one quite liked the Ashula I played at the Ibanez event. very nice indeed but definitely not a "thumb around the neck" bass. Think of it as two different instruments and it really isn't difficult to play either.

    I have a HB Jazz bass that at first was quite heavy but Andy sorted it out. There's a thread under build diaries about it. I agree. First upgrade would be the electronics. I put a Ki0gon loom in mine and never looked back.

    Rest assured. They sound incredible once you plug em in and weigh next to nothing. the only downside is that Ibanez "sandpaper unglossed" neck. Nice enough though if it's your jam.

    Up for sale is my fairly new squier CV 50s P Bass in white Blonde. Had it since January and done a NBD with pics on it here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/299474-nishbd-squier-cv-50s-precision/page__fromsearch__1 Lovely looking and playing bass, does the whole 50s P Bass thud thing very well. Unfortunately though, it isn't getting used really and I can't see me gigging it as it doesn't have the growly super hot sound I'd like. Still a great bass though for any classic rock/soul/motown bassist. If it wasn't for the lack of use its getting here (and it deserves playing), and minor car troubles, I wouldn't be selling. Plus, the strict one in one out policy has been broken and I need a wall hook. Has since been fitted with Dunlop Straplocks and La Bella low tension flats, which make it sound incredible. Bathroom scales say it's around 9lbs. Cash on collection from Castle Bromwich (about 2 minutes from J5 of M6). Will look into shipping with serious interest. May trade for other Squier CV basses...

I have never been able to slap, but that rick (while I know ricks aren't the choice of slap basses) had me thinking that slap really isn't an issue.

    So basically I went into the local music shop this morning for the usual expendables (strings, picks, cables, etc) and while I was there picked up a Rickenbacker 4003 in Walnut with maple through neck and some push-pull vintage voicing switch. I don't know if it was just in my head, but this bass made me feel as though I was a better bassist. It was so easy to play and sounded so brilliant I am now sad I don't have the £2000 to have left with it. Usually, I feel like a blagger, with that I felt just like Bruce Foxton, as if the 25 people in the shop were actually 250,000 people in a big arena. So my question is does anyone have an experience of playing a bass that made them play bass better? Or is it just a psychological thing?
