  1. Not a bad shout, don’t get me wrong I love a bit of Tech21, strip everything back to native and see, and then build in pedals/boxes as required And Sound aside - which is the best and most joyous to play? What you will end up with is, which sounds best native and with band, which sounds best with pedals and band (don’t change this sound even if playing in isolation and it sounds rubbish, as then you’ll lose your settings, or at least mark them). Then you have the balance of, this is my fave bass to play, and even if the sound is slightly worse than the other, it’s good enough. Or have a bass for different seasons, we are all mellower and happier in summer, a nice P in the mix could be the ticket!
  2. Still some room left to enlarge the cavity - and then make it a truly floating bridge..... That could just sound alright that
  3. Not need to run for cover, the other two will cut through no doubt, by it totally depends on what other instruments you play with and what your goals are. The P will ‘sit’ in the mix Fine and dandy, and you may need to EQ differently to what you are used to to pop through, whereas MM’s have a nasal honk and Preamp to rip through, and jazz has the bridge placement for bite (for want of better terms). The other question is - way out in audience land and not just on stage - how does/will it sound with a P once projected - it may not come into its own till you stand out there. Ate your ears more used to the Jazz/MM and hence a different sounding P is alien? Maybe you haven’t found the strings that suit you and the P bass best. No right or wrong, variations on what works
  4. Look no further than this for just a few pence
  5. Good man mine always worked flawlessly
  6. Just about to add a bridge one to a homemade P and a homemade jazz which I am routing for different pick ups will have a bridge and a neck to help cover dodgy work
  7. Or any body fender made or not depending on quality and pice a bitsa together
  8. Dimension series did a PJ 5er
  9. Pee wee
  10. Fancy pants - pretty sure I saw you with bubble wrap and a bag for life....
  11. What you say is never in doubt, but within that ‘Fender Tone’ there are various iterations, so depending on which you want, your Yammy or any other bass will be closer or further away, and as someone else has mentioned, the latest Yammy models have regular pick up sizes, so changing pick ups and sound etc has never been easier
  12. What ‘classic’ or ‘traditional’ P bass sound are we talking ’52, ‘58, ‘65, ‘70s We are talking 50-80 years ago in range where lots was happening
  13. What’s the goal here? Good price for a bass you have always wanted and intend to keep? Good price for a bass you want to try and then maybe flip? The lure of a ‘bargain’? that year’s feature set may be preferable to the 2019 model. You may get it cheaper, not as cheap as ex-display, the minute you touch it and take it home whatever the cost, you take a hit, unless it’s truly second hand and it’s reached it’s shelf, which most things do. I think basses do age with time and playing and mature, there is no doubt and can sound better, especially if quality woods to start with. Of course you could buy it, play it, return it in the return time frame, get a refund, go back and buy as returned stock for less, play it some more and then sell it still for a loss down the line second hand.
  14. Here here on the Mag, esp @Osiris playing through it, it must be good if it even made me seem half passable for a bassist
  15. Alto TS range is pretty decent as is their mixer Behringer X-Air is also a very decent mixer - Midas pre amps in it now so good for vocals etc.
  16. We’re the knobs plastic or metal? Judicious rout of the hole with your new tool?!
  17. Hi mate, glad you got them to work, and congrats - tinkering and it working is very satisfying! The only issue with ruining the paint is that if it’s shielding paint, that ca affect your basses shielding, however small bits should not be an issue. So far as knobs go - I am a set it and leave man, I quite like the look without!
  18. There is that, but I was sticking to the Jaguar vibe on the thread!
  19. Get the MIJ with 2 jazz pick ups
  20. Or 0000 wire wool
  21. The tone stack is great, flat being 2-10-2 and if you have other stuff before it then it will amplify what you give it. Defo those cones give a sound of their own which is not displeasing at all, but yeah, weight can be an issue especially with some of the stuff that is out there now
  22. Dad joke alert........... Never missed a Hartke-Beat
  23. LH amps are fantastic, simple, good tone, bombproof. Hydrive HX are ‘interesting’ cabs with paper and aluminium cones - quite cool to get them to fart and get interesting sounds out! Amp a big thumbs up and yes, cabs, not bad, but better ones out there when I side by sided them
  24. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Dadjokesrus Wasn't that Bill Smith or Morgan Freeman? Hollywood only use 1 or 2 black actors as well as trying to get away without paying female actors appropriate rates. Black Panther really screwed that up for them!
  25. Clang Machine is a great name
