1. Looks great, well done. What is the string spacing?
2.
Legend! Pity the camera didn't concentrate more on Kaye. Interesting interview here: http://vimeo.com/26233284
That was very interesting. One in the eye for vintage Fender lovers
3. That is rather nice.
4.
Ah, well, if it doesn't actually have to be a Fender, then this is the closest I am ever going to get to owning a Precision (Unless I find that Lake Placid Blue ESP I should've bought in '92) 1987 USA handmade B.C.Rich ST bass, now has the correct knobs on it, and EMG P + J pick ups
Works for me. That is gorgeous.
5. What is the top on that, it looks amazing?
6. If you don't feel it's right then don't do it, simple as that. I don't think you're being selfish. If your heart isn't into it, and it clearly isn't, then you're doing the right thing.
7. You could just post it here, no?
8. Back from its refret... I installed a new truss rod too, now it's setting up just right
9. Some character filled stuff there. Was the Roadstar body always that shape or is there some magical optical illusion going in there? Roll on with the guitars, that Ibanez looks interesting.
10. I believe Elixir own the idea of coating the string as a whole, everyone else coats the outer wire and then wraps it around the core, a very different feel and sound. I haven't tried the DRs but having bought sets of D'Addario and Warwick coated in the past, I won't be switching from Elixir again.
11. You could get a humbucking pickup, most pickup manufacturers make them. Some are bonded into the case though, so you may not able able to swap. If you were feeling adventurous you could try a Lace pickup for you noiseless needs. As for wiring, some are four conductor (in which case you just solder two wires together yourself) and some are two conductor (hard wired in series inside the pickup). It's no harder to wire in, you're soldering two wires into your pre in both cases.
12. Just mend the crack, save some money.
13. Just made a bass with a set of DiMarzio Ultra Jazz and I'm not entirely sold on them, I think I might swap in a set of single coils. They're lacking in growl but would probably suit if you were looking for something quite dubby. They're smooth with ample low end but that's not really what I'm looking for.
14. Most of mine are Japanese, not an active policy, just the ones I've tried, liked and kept have largely been from Japan and a few from Germany.
15. Yeah, he's spending so much time doing QC on each and every Fleabass... actually, no, no he's not.
16. I like how he checks the lead first, before the volume control
17. I like the way it doesn't really go into any detail about the device at all I think I'll pass. Once I learned to set up my instruments properly, I've never had a problem with going out of tune... ever.
18. I like that green J a lot!
19. I used to have one on my old Metro and, to be honest, couldn't picture using the bass without one. They make a huge difference, in my experience.
20. Elixir have copyrighted the process of coating the string as a whole. All the others coat the wire and then wrap it around the core already coated, which entirely defeats the purpose in my opinion.
21. Height quality, who could ask for more?
22.
my drummer... when he's mixing our recordings...
23. Is this a museum piece or a working instrument? If the latter, get it refretted and play it. If the former, hang it on your wall and charge people to see it.
24. There are people out there who don't know how to set up their bass and some who don't even know how to change their strings. Some people just play and don't worry about the technical side. Personally, I can be almost anal about some aspects of it but each to their own, I suppose, your average punter just hears the band as a whole without distinguishing the individual components so as long as the player is comfortable with what's going on it's all good.
