1.
Why is it not practical?
I got stuck on full version after I had to reset my tablet to default settings. There's too many links too close together for a small screen, I kept accidently clicking user profiles when I was trying to look at threads.
2. I got as far as clicking on the picture of the jazz bass, at which point it told me 'no results'. It's possible it's a browser/compatability problem at my end, otherwise they should never have taken the site live when even a cursory check would have shown it's not working.
3. I've played more guitar in bands than I have bass, always thought of myself as a bass player though, I just sort of ended up getting drafted to do vocals and I can't play bass and sing at the same time and I feel naked unless I'm holding something.
4. I hadn't heard of him until about a year ago. Since then mainly through his work with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus & Kamasi Washington he's become one of my most listened to bass players. I've still not made up my mind on his solo stuff, it's definitely very interesting, but I'm not sure how much I actually like it, though Apocalypse is definitely a more accessible album to me than Golden Age of the Apocalypse.(His first couple of albums have confusingly similar names).
5.
I think my bathroom scales are dodgy too... they keep telling me I'm far heavier than I was in my 20s...
You can borrow mine. They once told me I'd lost 6lbs in a day ( hooray) but put 8lbs on 2 days later (boo).
6. I've got a VM 70s which is spot on 9lbs on my dodgy bathroom scales.
7. Leo Sayer should sue them both.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_96uyfmqgo
8. They have or have had loads of signature guitars, van halen, albet lee, steve morse, st vincent. Apparently they just don't do signature basses (apart from the big al although that was a bit of a weird one as they used the the albert Lee shape, but I don't think there was any suggestion that he actually played one or was involved in the design).
9. I'd heard anecdotal mentions of these Barefaced threads going a bit off the rails, but I'd never actually experienced one until now. Blimey.
10. They've recently retired a load of colour options. From memory the only colours available at the moment are sunburst, natural, white and two different blacks, although it's entirely possible I'm wrong on that.
11. I think the Temptations may have taken things a bit further than most. I heard an interview with them around Christmas and got the impression that there are no original members in the current line up and there hasn't been for a good few years. It's a kind of immortality in a way. The name of the group and the songs could pontentially live forever. Edit: Just checked their wiki page and apparently Otis Williams has been in from the beginning, although I'd swear in the interview I heard they said there were no original members performing on the current tour, so maybe he doesn't do all the live dates, or maybe I dreamt it.
12. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of brightness, I should really be a bit less susceptible to brand names by now. They weren't terrible but I was a lot happier when I restrung with hi beams.
13. I don't know about the records, but the videos usually had Tom Petty on bass. Not that it makes any difference to your observation.
14. On a passive jazz everything on full usually gives me the perfect sound. Actives generally require a lot more fiddling about.
15. Made the classic mistake of not zooming in on the bass player enough but other than that very impressive.
16. Is it one of those things that's actually really mundane once you understand the context & jargon?
17. They do limited production runs of p basses with jazz necks every now and then. Hasn't the Nate Mendel signature got a Jazz neck?
18. Has to be the Jazz bass. Despite decades worth of classic p bass material & thousands of fantastic recordings to the contrary, there's something in my brain which insists two pickups hs to be better than one. Also Jazz basses are prettier and have nicer necks.
19. Just got myself tickets for Kamasi Washington at the Birmingham Institute on 29th June. I've been to a few jazz clubs over the years but this will be my first 'big name' jazz gig. Really quite excited. No details on the band yet but if he brings Thundercat & Patrice Quinn that'll be a massive bonus, if not then it's still all good.
20. They're not dull but 'Average Bright' would be a more accurate name. YMMV etc.
21. I was initially disapointed with the Super Brights, as I just didn't think that they were as bright or zingy as the name would suggest. After I got over that I found myself quite liking them. They also seem very smooth for a round wound, or at least the DR Hi Beams felt very rough after I switched back to them.
22.
https://www.amazon.c..._gno_yam_yrdrs this is my Amazon order this evening.
When I click on that link I only see my own recent Amazon orders. For half a second I thought you'd been ordering exactly the same books as me... I'm 90% certain that Marcus has switched his endorsement to Dunlop Super Brights, his name was on the pack I bought in December last year. With DRs it does seem to pay to shop around, you see pretty significant price differences even between different sellers on the Amazon market place, you may just have got a very good deal.
23. Yep its the real Henley, not Boris Johnson's old stomping ground.
24. Jubilee gardens doesn't ring a bell, unless its the garden at the back of one of the churches, but I shall definitely keep an eye out for anyone playing on that date.
25.
Next month my jazz band is performing in Henley in Arden at a garden party in celebration of the HM the queen's birthday. I do hope everyone will be on their very best behaviour and attend suitably attired.
Is it a private party or at a venue? Henley is very local to me indeed.
