I suppose it's how you approach it. I've seen a guitar duo doing covers with backing tracks who didn't really sound 'live' at all, apart from the vocals. On the other hand I saw Carter USM a few times when they were a duo playing to backing tracks and they had superb energy every time.

He does seem like a prime candidate for operation Yew Tree. Perhaps those involved don't want to be subject to the further glare of publicity that pressing charges would bring.

Jaco's like the first man on the moon, there can never be another. There's no doubt that Mohini is very, very special, but I doubt she can have that kind of impact on the musical world.

[/quote] I suspect most of us do this to one extant or another. I've never really understood the 'count in'. I just start when I'm supposed to start. No conscious effort to count the beats at all. As to 'this is in F# minor' - it may well be, but beyond knowing where F# (or is it G Flat?) is on the fretboard I just play stuff that fits with what everybody else is playing. As long as it's not noticeably discordant with what the others are doing I reckon I'm winning.

I saw that earlier today. Looks like they've only got two new ones. Maybe they're dipping a toe in the water before deciding whether or not to start stocking a few more?

Back in the 90s I was in a (mostly) originals indie band that did a version of Misirlou (better known as the theme from Pulp Fiction). Used to go down a storm even without a trumpeter. I reckon there are quite a few people who'd be up for seeing an instrumental surf music band, I'd be one of them. Whether you could find enough of them in one place to do regular gigs, I'm not sure, but I could imagine that people might want to book such a band for specific events/functions.

I'd love to have a proper crack at drums, I reckon it would make me a better bass player. I've got a mate who has offered to lend me her electric kit, but from having a couple of lessons at her house I reckon even that would be noisy enough to have the neighbours coming after me with farm implements and flaming torches where I live.

Had to download the Spotify app, but I'm listening to it now. So far, so brilliant.

It's just my grouchy instincts. It would have been great on a Christmas EP. I just don't like hearing Christmas music on albums I listen to all year round Bah Humbug etc. Do you know if the new one's on general release or just on Spotify? I just checked Amazon and they don't seem to have it yet, or I'd be listening to it right now.

I suppose it comes down to what you're used to. I've always thought that if I ever get a six string bass I'll tune it B to B. Having the top string as C would confuse me and bugger up any chordal stuff I might want to do.

Sell it. Someone out there will love it & you can get something you'd be happier with.

My Washburn Status is active with a single tone control. I've never been exactly sure what it cuts/boosts but there's significantly more variation in tone than you get on a passive bass. Edit: I think the Status Energy (I have no connection to the seller) in the for sale section has a similar arrangement, maybe the seller knows a bit more about it.

I down loaded cookie about half an hour a go on the strength of this thread.I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far.
