1. http://www.snap-drag...-range-19-w.asp Scroll down in the link for the bass. Ok, so it doesn't look all that, but if you believe the blurb a quality giggable bass you can put in your hand luggage? Has anyone heard of these or tried them?
2. An old mate of mine's clain to fame, was that Alf punched him. This was back in the day when she had a bit of weight to put behind a punch. She's still got a cracking voice.
3. Chiswick tomorrow: Fri 10th 9.00pm FREE George IV, 185 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London 020 8994 4624 . It's always a pleasure to return to the George IV, having played many terrific gigs there over the years. The Junkyard Dogs have recorded two live videos at this pub, confident of a great atmosphere. Come along and join in. then on Saturday: Sat 11th 9.00pm FREE Royal Victoria, 66 Boston Road, Hanwell, London 020 8567 4815 http://www.lemonrock.com/royalvictoria This is the Junkyard Dogs' first gig at the Royal Victoria. Come along and help make it a night to remember.
4. lack of bumpage may indicate I'm not desperate to sell. If they don't sell I'll probably put them in storage, which would be a shame as they deserve to be gigged.
5. mine.
6. if you can't commit then one is too many.
7. included with my MU membership along with free insurance
8. For the glasses wearers among us, do you wear them when gigging? I remember reading how John Lennon only had the confidence to wear his after seeing Buddy Holly. Has it ever been an issue?
9. Only this week read the April issue of BGM, and saw the obit. Over the years I've had 2 Ex-Factors - a regular Kubicki and one from the Fender custom shop.Incredible basses and an amazing neck. Phil personally got back to me when I had a Kubicki query. RIP Phil.
10. free insurance plus public liability included with MU membership.
11. Sunscreen. Corduroy. IIRC started around the same time and were quite popular within the Acid Jazz scene. They played at my uni during the 90's.
12.
I think he meant this... & not this...
well I know which I'd rather wear
13.
Is there an equivalent list for guitarists?
Trying to impress your mates in the audience by playing Metallica riffs during soundcheck = ejection from premises with guitar inserted in rear orifice.
14. i rest my Flying V against the amp, but I always stand it on something padded/soft and not directly on the floor. Edited, to add I lean it so the contact is with the strings and not the neck.
15. Playing above first octave = dismissal depressingly accurate
16. Poison - in 1987 or Alice Cooper - now.
17.
Not everyone is a musician, and let's face it, unless we are content and believe we will never be able to fully express ourselves on our instruments, we are frustrated as musicians. We can't float the boat quickly enough, or at all. Not every note satisfies. We wish the beautiful mistake was deliberate, or the deliberate was a beautiful mistake, depending on your personal aesthetic, approach to learning, and confidence. We mistake passion for ability, ability for passion, wondering if people will dance to our new grooves, needing affirmation of some sort. You are probably a frustrated musician, but what is it that stops you accepting that the way you approach life and music is what you are? And stops you accepting and hearing your unique voice for what it is? Preventing you from developing your own truth as a musician and as a musical person. What makes you doubt your capacity to delight yourself, and touch other people?
i now play guitar in a band, therefore my ego does not allow for such things
18. my Shuker is short scale, but as there are 2 extra frets (a-la Kubicki) at the top it's not noticeable.
19. being a beassist isn't what I do, it's what I am. i will probably spend the rest of my life always searching for that one bit of gear that's gonna make everything right - even though it may not be needed or even exist. For me it's the journey rather than the destination.
20.
The Owl - Rodley (outskirts of Leeds) £3.10 a pint - thieving ***** - so it was sh*t for that reason and I'll never go back.
£3.10 seems quite reasonable to me. I must have been in that London too long.
21. i remember one went on here a few years ago for about £900.00. Should've pulled the trigger on that. Not sure why the money thing is an issue for gigging, I know bassists who gig their vintage basses (worth £K's) and guitarists who gig their top end LP's (worth £K's). Jen's makes his basses to be played.
22.
Seriously - The first time I saw I M , Steve sang because their singer at the time , Paul Dianno , had a bad throat. When I met Steve after a gig at which Paul sang a couple of months later I told him they should get rid of him because he (Steve) had done a better job and that they were sh*te with Paul. The look he gave Dave Murray and some mangement bloke with them tells me this was not news to the band.
was that the Unity Hall gig in Wakefield?
