You are top of my list of people to be thank after Keira Knighley, the entire cast and crew of all 6 Star Wars films, everyone on Basschat, the entire female population of Sweden, Subaru, Fender, Musicman, Warwick, MarkBass, Genz Benz, my friends and family, anyone thats been to the Monaco GP including the King and his daughters, nieces and cousins, Guinness including past and present employees, all the ladies of riverdance including Michael Flatley, the population of Tulamore for making the finest Irish Whiskey, Finland and fellow rally fans around the world, Renault for making great racing cars, people who make nice lakes and mountains around the world so we can feel all warm and fuzzy when we visit them on our holidays, my sister old cat called Tallula and then you Dave. :)
Well, you wouldn't be where you are now without us all.
 2.
I get the whole advertising gear on TV and stage thing but not so sure I am with you on the thanks in the CD booklet. You do build relationships with these people and sometimes its more than doing just their jobs. You are trying to get these people to work for you and hard for you and to have them on your side for next time.
Yep, nothing wrong with keeping people sweet, especially the ones you appreciate. Some do go on a bit though, thanking everyone they have come in to contact with over the last 30 years is a bit too much lol.
 3.
Might be a daft question and probably covered elsewhere, but why did Plan B's bassist have the logo of his bass taped over, was he otherwise in breach of an endorsement deal or something?
He also did the same at the Isle of wight festival. I also noticed he had no pickguard on which left a large gap showing in the body. I really like his style and his tone.
 4.
Thanks for the offer Dave, but I've decided to go for the Fender Original '62 P Bass Pickup. Cheers Brian
Good choice, thats the one i have in my CV P at the moment.
 5.
Hi, I've been contemplating getting one of these to control unwanted boom on hollow stages. Having read a couple of posts on here I am getting concerned that because I am only using one small cab a bergantino AE112 I wil lose a lot of umph and wanted bass coupling. Any thoughts I was convinced up until reading this as there are hundreds of good reviews. Any thoughts?
I find using one with my 1212L gets me a cleaner, as in less muddy tone on the hollow wooden stages you often find in Social clubs and pubs. I've never like elevating my cab off the ground due to the loss of low end (or seeming loss of low end) but the Gramma pad helps keep the low end but reduces the cloud of mud that you normally get. Its not perfect and it wont preform miracles but for hollow stages its a must. I use mine for every gig now, if nothing else it helps get the small rig a bit higher. As for carrying it, i just use the handle :-)
 6.
I've been gassing for a P for some time now, and have decided to put one together myself. I've acquired a Squier VM body, and a Mighty Mite neck, and was wondering what type of pups would be best to get that classic thunderous "thump" of a P. I am considering the Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounders and Wizard Thumpers. Do you have any other suggestions to give me that classic P-Bass thump? And how much difference do the pots make? Any advice would be very welcome.
I have a Wizard thumper sitting around at home at the moment. Im not going to sell it but im not going to use it for at least a month. Your welcome to borrow it if you wanted it try it out for a few weeks. I actually thought it was still in my CV P last week. I remember putting a Fender 62 RI pup in the bass as an experiment but thought i had taken it out. So, there's another suggestion. The Fender 62RI is also a good, not too expensive thumpy pup. Probably a bit more open and not quite as dark as the Thumper, but still with plenty of thump.
 7. Ive got a Streamliner and its great for that old tube tone but i also like the Markbass/BDDI tone, probably a bit better. To me its a bit more modern, with more sparkle.
 8. Whatever next, frets that are at an angle to make playing them easier? The mind boggles at what people dream up
 9. This thread made me go back and look at my old Lakland's. This one seems to be offset although i didnt notice it at the time. This seems to be fine
 10. The name rings a bell. Have you got a pic of it? Im sure i had a Keyboard head made by McGregor years (and years) ago.
 11.
Fender Regie Hamilton Sig STD. MIM- great quality- Am STD P pup,Noisless J, active/passive. Wicked bass. Not pricey, well here at least.
wow, another bass ive never looked in to before and it seem almost perfect.
 12.
A question for those who get to gigs on public transport and have to take an amp and cab of some sort. How do you do it? Use a trolley of some sort?
Ive only done it once but yes, cab went on one of those lightweight fold up trolleys, amp and leads went in a rucksack strapped to the top of the cab and bass on back. I only used the tube and im not sure i would use a bus but i can see it working ok, and probably takes less space than a child in a large buggy so its not too bad. Its great having a lightweight rig. I can make the trek from car to stage in one go, then go back and forth 4-5 times helping the others with all their gear :-(
 13.
Wow, Lakland are getting slammed! I agree if you're paying upwards of a grand for a bass you should be getting a much better level of QC but I really can't fault mine. In fact it killed my Fender Jazz stone dead in terms of playability and sound, so much so I sold the Fender recently.
Ive had 5 Skylines and none had any issues. I also had 3 MIA Fender Jazz basses last year that were miss aligned in some way. Both my Squiers are spot on.
 14. I dont think its unusual for someone to spend (a lot of) money on a rig to get a certain tone and to want to use that tone at gigs. I sometimes find that while a full PA will get the tone of the bass across (normally it just sounds like a P bass IME) a lot of people need their rig to get their tone. While im sure it still sounds good out front, if you cant play off your tone it can be a bit of a downer, again, IME.
 15.
It looks all wrong to me. The warped bell plate is particularly horrible. The pups would look good on a different shape bass, but not on this one. Ugly.
I agree. Personally i think the Chi's are very retro looking and suit the Decade and Hollowbody much more than this bass. Then again i think they make any bass look like my first ever guitar that came from Woolworths.
 16.
I notice a lot of people who are pro amps are owners of Genz Benz gear. It was that effing Ed freidland who got me hankering after my massive bassman after I saw his bass whisperer review. He sung it's praises to the rafters and went on and on about how great it was. But does he own one? NO he does not! What does he own? A GENZ BENZ SHUTTLE thats what! B@ST@RD!!!
Hmmmm, same here with my Streamliner. That'll teach me.
 17.
Is that working now?
It looks like it is. The band brought me a new driver for it last year. I only use it at work, and mainly as a cab.
 18.
I always take my ashdown combo, which is a lot lighter, for smallish gigs that need an amp.
My 500watt rig weighs less than my Ashdown MAG combo. I personally dont like owning gear if im not using it regularly, but thats just me.
 19.
Ah, that would be a problem with my solution then
Indeed. Although i do have a BDDI, and occasionally do play bigger gigs with a full PA i hate not having my rig behind me so always take it. It may not make a difference out front but i prefer to feel the notes on the back of my legs, and the band do appreciate the fact that they can sometimes feel it in the floor.
 20. We had a few post Ascot ladies at our gig. They certainly stood out from the crowd. That probably why we had a good crowd. Very entertaining in a pervy way.
 21.
Sansamp and monitors?
Not for my bands. See my post above. No PA support most of the time.
 22.
Can't really see the point of bass amps and cabs, they are a pain in the arse getting them to gigs and in and out the van, people want to borrow them at gigs, rehearsal rooms usually provide backline anyway, they are almost never miced on stage, and they are very expensive.
Well i dont think my band would appreciate me turning without a rig.
 23. I think Geddy just brought those so he could sit down on them during the long drum and guitar solo's
 24. Why not just take the big amp for the small gigs? You dont have to turn it up to silly levels. Im one of those "lucky" ones who hardly ever use PA support so i get to choose how i sound out front.
 25.
Dave, if you were at Hever..you should have taken your golf clubs as the course is worth it, IMO. :lol Lovely place
Well we had plenty of time for a round or two (or three or four), just as well it was a nice venue and plenty to see. We were in Knaphill (OHM's village) on sat, just a social club but one of the best crowds we have had this year. Very vocal and up dancing all night. This was one gig were really weren't looking forward to as the pay isnt great and, well, its a social club but we all agreed it was one of the most enjoyable gigs we have done for a long time. The only issue i had was i took my Jazz with P neck and struggled all night. Ive now decided to give up on P necks altogether.
