1. Played a wedding at Hever Castle yesterday. Me and the drummer arrived a hour early (4pm) and we didn't start playing until 10.15pm. Bloody long day but the grounds of the castle are really nice, and the sun was out for the afternoon so i spent a lot of the time taking photos of plants and ducks. Gig was good, i enjoyed using my Streamliner. Its growing on me. Good crowd although it thinned out quite quickly as a lot of them were old folk. I had a go at the drummer at the end of the gig. Why is it some drummer just dont get dynamics and have to hit the bloody things so hard. And his reason for doing it.....I couldn't hear anything. Yeah, that makes perfect sense. He is one of those drummers that over plays at the start of the night and tires himself out too early. Then he makes up for it by making a lot of noise to cover the lack of steady rhythm. Sorry, rant over, i know we have done this to death but wanted dot get it off my chest. Even the others mentioned it, so it must have been bad. Social club tonight with a big stage, at least i can distance myself from him.
2.
+1 for cv60 - I've had one for a week and I'm fast becoming a cv60 bore. t's a very cheap way of dipping a toe in 'p' waters without sacrificing on sound or kwalidee too much.
Nothing boring about educating, and saving people money. Its not the best P in the world but its certainly good enough to pass as a good P bass, and at a lower price point than its peers. The MIA's do look really nice though, and if they had vintage frets i'd buy one without hesitating.
3. Ive got wizards in both my basses. Lovely pups. I found 84's to have a bit less sparkle than i hoped so i got Andy to custom wind me some 74's. These have the punch of the 84's but with a more open top end. For what its worth i never liked the stock Lakland pups in my old DJ5 but then i never liked the tone of the DJ5 with Nordstrands either. I should have tried Wizards back then before selling it.
4.
Is there any website that has all the best 15/6 fEARful etc details in one place ?
There are a few threads on TalkBass about these cabs, might be more info there.
5.
The only thing I would recommend here is a word of caution to try before you buy if at all possible. F
Definitely, and more so with the small cabs as some can sound quite boxy or too mid scooped. The Schroeders also have a very distinctive sound that not everyone gets on with.
6.
I use a 1212L (like a 1212R, but neo speakers) for rehearsals & gigs - can't see myself ever needing another amp or cab - sounds great and is tiny, light & loud
Me too. Been using this type of cab for about 6 years now. first a 1210R and then a 1212L, Played some pretty big places and most of the time with no PA support. While a 2x12 cab will never be the lightest option its certainly good enough for a lot of people. Driven by a 500watt head this should cover almost all gigs, and anything it cant should be handled by a large PA IMO so its a non issue. Ive been using MB heads with my cabs and ive never had to turn the master over half way (i know thats not a indication of how loud i am, just that im not pushing the head too hard) and with a 1212L you will be asked to turn down in most pubs. Ive just got a F1 and im amazed at how tiny it is. Even compared to my old LMII head. I would suggest getting a MB head as there are a few going cheap at the moment, then spend the rest no a good cab or two. Of course all cabs have a certain sound, so just going for the smallest or lightest might not be ideal so compromises must be made.
7. This is terrible service, and a ridiculous postage cost. What about if Ken agrees to let the OP organise the shipping, that would at least allow Ken to do nothing other than pack it up and charge a minimal amount, and the OP could shop around for the cheapest option. I had a set of Allen keys sent to me from Lakland a couple of years ago, free of course, and this was for a secondhand Duck Dunn Bass. I was only enquiring if it should come with keys, and if not what size would i need I even told them i didnt really needed the tools but they sent them "just in case".
8. Looks like you definitely made the right decision Gareth. Thats looks fantastic. Considering the price you got it for it probably means its worth more than you paid already. A good investment as well.
9.
Okay thanks everyone, I'll keep an eye out for an EBS, and I'll also see if I can find somewhere local with a Neo Clone in stock! Cheers, L
Im also on the look out for a Neo Clone. I tried a Nano Clone and it was pretty poor. There are some sound clips in this thread no TalkBass. 10. Welcome to the CV club. After spending (and wasting) a good few £1000 over the past few years (including a lot on a DJ5 P/J conversion) i really wish i had got my CV P a lot earlier. Im still very tempted to get a P-Retro (that video has convinced me i will get one some day) but at the moment im still not 100% im keeping the CV P as i still dont love the colour. It wont stop me from using and loving the bass itself, but after seeing the White Matt Freeman P im convinced my CV P isnt going to make it till the end of the year.
11. Lol. Did you read the whole thread before shouting at us?
12.
what are the cello suites then? some baritone... some bass.... 100% solo
Still not 30 min bass solos as i already stated. I said it in jest really but i do really find Jaco's (and the like) playing very, very boring.
13.
Listen to Bach. No beat there either.
No 30min bass solos either ;-)
14. One of the best, cheap ones ive had was the BBE Optostomp. Very nice and very easy to use. I would avoid the Aphex punch factory as this (IME) doest hardly anything. This page has a lot do good reviews on it. bongomania's Compressor Reviews
15. The first video reminds me of a sat afternoon in a west end music shop, only no loud slapping, and the second reminds of waiting to die. Just not my cup of tea im afraid
16.
Levys do them http://www.giggear.co.uk/p/Levy-s-MM4-Wire...Receive-Holder/ but I'm sure most big manufacturers of straps are bound to do something as well
Cheers for posting that link. I just ordered one. I must admit ive been giving this thread a miss, thinking it was to do with networks.
17. I can see the point of it for someone using a laptop maybe. It seems a bit more convenient than to have to hook up a USB audio interface and plug in to that.
18. Met Stuee last night as he came and picked my SA450 up. Nice bloke, easy to talk to and paid cash, you couldn't ask for more,. Cheers mate.
19. This is now sold. Cheers. Stuee, nice to meet you and good luck with the amp.
20. Dan. I just wanted to point out the paid for version of the GK App has a proper EQ section. This makes quite a difference to the tone. Saying that, I'm starting to prefer the more beefy tone of Amplitube these days.
21. Ive always wondered this as well. We keep hearing how we should use decent speaker and instrument leads, yet the leads in the cabs that i have seen do seem pretty cheap. I dont think its silly to ask though, and seeing as Alex has given as good an answer as could be expected we all now know its not a problem. The way i read the OP was it was just a question based on lack of knowledge, not one of these Snake oil questions.
22. I would at least open it up and see if it is just a loose wire. I know it will be fixed under warranty but IMO if it involves a couple of trips in the car, maybe a few days for them to fix it i would attempt it myself. Off topic but I posted in another thread how i took my CV jazz to a gig by mistake as it was in the wrong gig bag. Both pups were un wired and there were not strap buttons on it. I ended up using Gaffa tape to re wire the bass lol. It worked fine though.
23.
I feel sorry for (and sometimes sceptical to valididity of) those comments which claim that bass xyz is unplayable because it has 1 or 2 mm difference here and there. Just my 2p like.
Im one of those that does feel it matters, although im not too hung up on it. The Squier CV High mass bridges are 20mm and i find that to be a bit uncomfortable. I changed the bridge on the P to a 19mm spaced Gotoh 201 and i do notice the difference between this and my Jazz which still has the stock bridge on it. Unplayable? no, uncomfortable? yes, especially with a P neck that i also find a bit uncomfortable.
24. Just seen your vid with the new singer (i assume). I know the vocals are a bit low but i actually preferred the old singers voice. Both good but i thought the old singer had more emotion in her voice.
