1. For no other reason than im bored i was just looking on Thomanns website at these. I was amazed at how much they now cost. Definitely not budget bass prices any more IMO. some are over £750. In a way i suppose that might instil more confidence in the basses, as they wont appear to be cheap basses, but im glad i got mine in the first wave of V7's.
2. Maybe its the damage putting people off. Id have it if it wasn't for that. Still a great bargain though, but some people go on looks rather than playability, or how sell-able something is even before they get it. Maybe it should have been advertised as a Duck Dunn road worn edition lol.
3. Thanks for the replies. I went through all the Tone prints last night (still only on headphones) and was amazed at how different they made my P bass sound. Ive never had a Comp this diverse before. Funnily enough i ended up preferring the default settings, although l liked aspects of some of the others. I did noticed the Muscle comps’ author was a pick player but i felt that tone a was a bit agreesive in the top end. To be honest all seem to be good starting points. I’m not really looking ot accent the pick attract, i dont really like that tone, but ot can be useful for some songs. Dan, every time i look at one of your video reviews it costs me money lol. It would be good if you do manage to get a screen shot up but only when you get the time. I sort of understand what most the parameters do, but its the interaction between them that bafffle me. Too many options to keep playing with. I dont think ive touched the knob on the pedal much. I did have one big issue last night. I made a few adjustments and clicked save to pedal. Once the tone had been sent i got a very loud screeching sound that almost blew my head off. I had to reset the pedal to get rid of it. Looks like it was just a one off though. I think this will be a keeper, it seems to do subtle well enough. it wil just sit on the amp always on.
4. Cheers, ill give that a try. It does seem like nearly all the Tone print patches are for slap bass. I can understand how useful compression is for that style, but even so.....
5. Im sure this has been covered somewhere but i cant quite find what im looking for. Ive just the above pedal (yeah, yet another comp) as an always on effect. Im hoping to use it to even out my pick playing and add a bit of fullness to the upper stings. Just playing the standard covers so i dont need a specific tone out of it, i just need more presence. Ive read loads of reviews and loved Dan's video about editing this pedal, but i must admit im at a loss as far as what best to tweak to get the above. I also cant use it through my rig at home, so any testing would be with headphones which isnt going to be ideal (all the patches sound good to me doing it this way). So im just asking for recommendations based on the existing tone print patches that would be most suitable as a starting block. Cheers for any pointers. i think this one will be a keeper.
6. Thanks for the recommendation. Actually I'm not really in love with the VMT, its just that i have it. I think i need to move on to the BK range or use my VTBass DI more. I had the VMTD Ultra but was overwhelmed with all the knobs and although i got some great tones it was too distracting and i kept messing with it. I want something simpler. I think this is more a GAS thing than a real need, so i dont really want to spend much.
7. Quick update. I didn’t like it. Although i only tried it at a very low volume i can tell its not what i was hoping for. It’s nice, but seeing as i already have a VMT and VTBass DI Which both sound much fuller i might as well send it back. Going to try a BK3 next.
8. What i meant when i said it was overkill was the Ultra was too tempting got keep tweaking. Too many knobs for what i needed. The tone was of course amazing, but i found i would keep tweaking it and it got too distracting. Same goes for the Zoom B3n. I like the simple life so the less knobs the better. With the VMT i just tend to leave it on all the time and only tweak the Vintage knob to suit the song. Recently though ive found i also turn up the Drive quite a bit for a few songs. Thing is i find the VMT to be a bit dark sounding, even with the vintage knob right up. Ive not actually played the BSF yet, but i feel the VMT has to go either way. I can do without the warming effect the VMT gives when used always on. The other option i was looking at was a BK3. I like what i hear in the B3n simulation, but for what the BSF costs ill give that a try first. Im quite new to distortion (as opposed to just warming a head up) and i know ill go through a few boxes before finding the one that suites me. Might as well start at the cheap end. Its from Amazon so i can easily send it back if i dont like it.
9. I'd never head of the BSF until i clicked on this thread. Sounds like the one i just ordered will be replacing my Darkglass VMT. I like the VMT but its not quite what i was hoping for. I had the VMTD a while ago and thought that was better. i also upgraded to the Ultra but didnt keep that long as it was a bit overkill. These days i need a bit more distortion, along the same line as what Graham needs, and for similar songs. I do have a VTBass DI which i love, and a Zoom B3n, but i really just want to use one pedal at gigs with as little room to fiddle with as possible.
10.
Yeah I prefer the black myself - not too in your face but just enough to bring out that sparkle in th finish
Yeah, black is my fav. Although I liked the pearl it gave the bass more of a 60's look IMO. Classy but not really my thing.
11. Yeah, i cant stand white, and on a bass like this i felt a darker colour brought the colour out more. This was the same bass with a pearl PG on. quite a different look. Id have it if it wasn't for the ding in it.
12. Ive had two of these, and regret selling both. Almost the best P basses ive ever played. I wonder if this is my old one. That had a black pick guard on it. The standard one is white IIR.
13.
Sorry Dave, I have to disagree, there is some fantastic new music out there if you look for it, The Temples, Mystry Jets, Ghostpoet to name but a few, of the older more established bands The Charletons are writing some of their best ever stuff at the moment, they may not be doing a style of music you really like but there is still some great new music coming through
That’s a subjective list that you obicvlsy like, but to me bands likes the Charletons, Ghostpoet, and Mystry Jedi are awful IMO. I could never listen to that drivel.
14.
Unless your name is Sting, Paul McCartney, Mark King, Phil Lynott or Lemmy.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. http://teamrock.com/news/2017-07-25/motorhead-covers-album-due-out-in-september
15. All the good songs have already been written. Now its all dross, has been for years.
16. In my case a BDDI cured my amp GAS. I wouldn’t dream of using the F1 without it (or more lately my DG VMT). I find the GK MB800 on its own is just as satisfying though.
17. Yeah, the F500 was always the one i wanted, especially after getting rid of my old MB SA450 with its sweepable EQ, but I couldn’t find one at a decent price.
18. Yeah, i agree with that.
19. I had my MarkBass F1 when i first got the BB2, so for me it wasn’t JUST the GK that was the problem. I play with a pick most of the time and i do find that can sound a bit thin compared to finger style.
20. And i think Gary gets an excellent tone with my old BB2, so even more confusing 🙂
21. I wanted to point out it was more a lack of mids how i prefer to hear them rather than just not there. Just so we are clear at least on my post in case war breaks out 🙂
22. Yes, ours are called DB Technologies OPERA 715 DX 15" Active PA Speaker. This is the older version, more rounded than the current version. They are also very light. I carry both at the same time. We use a Behringer desk (cost about £160). This is the 1x10 version http://www.dv247.com/pa-systems-and-live-sound/db-technologies-opera-710-dx-10-active-pa-speaker--103440 I cant really answer what the differences would be, if all things being equal other than size. What i have foun dis when we used our old guitarists 1x10 RCF's we struggled to get a solid, clean tone. Playing the same venues with our 1x15's we had no issues. Volume wise we would have been pretty much the same. His were rated lower than ours, so i can understand the difference in clean output, but the overall tone was much more solid and tight from the DB's.
23. I'm Not sure what the going rate for those is now, you are right about that model being out of production, but we got them from Digital village for just under £650 for the pair. This was much cheaper than the equivalent RCF's at the time.
24.
Didn't see your comments on mixers, Phil, as our posts crossed.
Did you look at my thread? The db's are made by a company who are owned by RCF so good quality.
25. Have a read through this thread i started last year. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/293613-thomanns-the-box-pa-502-a-anyone-using-these-for-live-work/page__fromsearch__1 Im very, very happy with the outcome. i just wish i had got these a few years earlier.
