Is the Barefaced big baby 2 the best small cab?
dave_bass5 replied to Prince_phil's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Im looking to buy a single cab to use for most of the gigs I do and from what Ive read the Big baby 2 seems to have a good combination of size/weight/freq response. Is there anything else that I should consider? I dont really want to spend more than a BB2 would cost and it seems that for the moment Barefaced seem to have the edge over the other brands- but Ive obviously not tried much! Im tempted to just order one and take advantage of their returns policy if I dont get on with it. I play 4/5 string passive jazz basses/electric upright/synth bass and use a markbass LM2. Music varies from funk/soul/hiphop to bluegrass.. Thanks for any advice! Phil
Personally i didnt like my BB2 much. Lovely cab, just didnt produce the tone i wanted. This was with a MB F1 head and also a GK MB800. I could quite easily have lived with it had i no other options, as it did a great job as far as volume goes and was so light, but it just felt very low end heavy to my ears. -
What band would be willing to pay more for a dep? Why would you want to accept any less as a dep than the regular guy?
The band i used to dep with paid a flat fee of £150 for a dep. Sometimes that was more than the rest of the band got. We did a small tour of Scotland once, and after expenses etc i was the only one to make money. so yes, it can happen.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
dave_bass5 replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
This is a dilemma. If its a design fault, and it might be an isolated one at best, then you need to decide if you really need string through body, at the expense of losing a good bass. It sounds silly that it doesn't work as advertised, but in my experience string through body is not a deal breaker. -
Bassists you like in genres/band you don't

Geddy Lee. Love his playing but cant stand his vocals. Makes listening to Rush for a long period of time a bit of a struggle. -
I'm just bitter , i wanted a J neck without having to buy Two :-P
It sounds like the Jazz neck will be sold separately. Im hoping they wont cost too much as i quite fancy one for my Squier P bass. -

The quote i posted earlier was from that press release. Sire haven't used the phrase baseball bat though. to me thats clearly saying it comes with a P neck. -

From their Facebook page "The Sire company plans to release the P7 with a 41.8mm Pbass original neck width size. And also an interchangeable jazz neck of 38mm will be available for purchase" -

Yeah, i was talking about the not yet announced basses that Sire have sort of said they are brining out soon on thier FB page. -

I agree, and if anything i would have thought they would get the 4 string right and not the 5, seeing as MM seems to always be pictured with the 4 string. Maybe i was lucky with mine, but i cant fault it on anything other than the weight. Maybe they took extra care with the first run and then got over worked with then second batch. -

Im pretty sure we covered this earlier in the thread (and there is another on the same topic) but the V7 string bridges are different to the 5 strings, in that it seem its almost impossible to string though the body on the 4 stings. IIR Sire said they would address this quite a while ago. I must admit ive not really kept up with the Sires so maybe they haven't. I do like the look of the P basses though, although i wont be getting one as im sorted for a P bass. -

Seeing as most new owners state these basses are good even at double the price I'm sure it won't effect sales ;-). -
I'll take a guess at items damaged in shipping to their warehouse as opposed to damaged by them. They usually have a rake of stuff on ebay - broken acoustic basses etc
I could be wrong but I think G4M supply equipment to schools. That could explain the high number of returns and damaged stock.

This is the one i have https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01422TC14/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Using a short USB lead it has powered my GoPro for over 3 hours and still managed to charge two iPhones at the gig. It also has a touchy on it which has been handy.
I have the Q2N, and the batteries are the same, about 2 hours, so I have to change them at half time if I want to record everything.
I notice the Zoom website says its USB bus power supported. You might find you can run it from a portable USB power pack. Thats what i do with my GoPro. Saves the hassle of moving it to charge or change the battery once its set up.

Tubular bells, at a wedding. I kid you not. A guest came up and asked us if we could do "the exorcist bit" as a joke on one of his mates, who apparently loved all that spooky stuff.

interesting thread. The only thing i can add is that we use a small digital recorder strapped to the singers mic stand. This ensures we get a good stereo mix, with the vocals in the center coming from the monitor (when she remembers to turn it on). This can provided a very clean but live sounding audio mix that can me synced up to the video. Ive used this with my GoPro attached to a speaker stand. Its not ideal but works ok. Im very tempted to get the Q2N, it looks ideal, but with 4 GoPros in the house, and 3 DSLR's its a bit overkill.
I wouldn't have contacted him either. Cymbals and no drums, raises too many red flags. I wouldn't start making inquiries until I owned a proper kit. Blue
And no mention of sticks either :-)

I am actually looking for a drummer, and have an ad up on here. Whilst looking through Gumtree for a suitable drummer i came across a guy who was just getting back in to drummer after a few years break. Sounded ok, fairly local and seemed to know whats what. Then i noticed his ad said he had cymbals and should have the drums soon. I didnt bother contacting him.

No, not odd at all. For what its worth ive had a Lakland JO4 neck on my CV Jazz most of its life, but its also been on the CVP as well. The CVP has had the CV Jazz neck on it most of its life as well, as i prefer jazz necks, and the CV Jazz neck is one of the best ive played.

The only reason i changed the bridges on mine was because they are 20mm spacing, which i found to be not as comfortable as my usual 19mm.
-
Standard CV bridge is chunky with brass saddles, and you'll struggle to replace it with a vintage style as the hole spacing isn't standard on the CV. But £215 is a great deal!
Thats not true in the case of my two CV's. Ive had a Fender BBOT on my CVP and now both have Gotah 201's on them. Never needed to drill or fill the holes

I tihnk my issue was the reverse, i got to 800watts and had to get rid of my drummer for a quieter one lol

Ive got the 1x15 cab. Brought it without trying it, to replace my Barefaced BB2, and i can honestly say its the best sounding cab ive ever owned. I also feel its just the right size, not too big and not too small, but with a big tone.
