Nice one. Although it works perfectly well with GB my preferred Amp sim app is Ampkit. This has not only the usual SVT/Fender style stuff but also Peavey/Ashdown and TE rigs, plus BDDI sim.

This is the underside of my first and only pedal board. It’s bee tidied up a bit since I took this, but I’m quite pleased with the lack of mess.

Being the indecisive bugger that i am, ive sent the B1on back. I spent a lot of time with it yesterday, and loved using it, but i couldn't get rid of the top end that every thing seemed to have. As i play with a pick it became quite annoying. Switching back and forth between this and the B3n showed the B3n didn't suffer from this. Both sounded good but the B3n just seemed a bit more usable to my ears. Also the BDDI patch on the B13on, with the drive up, was horribly noisy, whereas the B3n wasn't anywhere near this. Glad i tired it though.

On a whim me and the GF got tickets to see The Hollywood Vampires at Wembley later this year. I quite like the covers they have recorded, plus the Darkness and the Damned are supporting. Should be a loud night.

The headstock is the reason i have never owned a G&L bass, which is a shame as i know they are good basses.

Nah, i do a lot of research on YT etc, so i wouldn't just go by one recommendation, although you did put the idea in my head. I really like it, and if i didn't have the B3n i wouldn't even have commented. It was just a shock when i first plugged it in. Without a bass on the end its really, really loud. The B3n is more or less silent like this. Once im playing along to my ipad its all fine though. The patch i wanted to set up didnt seem to work as well, with all the parameters the same on both units, but most of the B1on pre-sets seem to be quite usable once i tamed the drive and level settings. I like how the amp sims have the cabs built in to them, whereas the B3n doesn't. The B1on also seems to have a few FX/sims that the B3n doesn't have. As long as i keep away from bright settings its all good. Its not like ill use it live so just one comp/amp patch is really all ill need.

Changed my mind. It’s not as bad as I thought, once i got the levels sorted out, and after going back and forth between the B1on and B3n i actualy prefer the tone of the B1on. It’s a shame the extra noise is there but its not going to be intrusive.

Lovely pair Michael :-)

I used to have one. I had no complaints but i had to sell it when i switched to a lightning port ipad. The new cable was just too much to pay for and i really wasn’t using it much anyway. I now have a iRig HD and to be honest i cant hear any difference, although thats just from memory. I’d go for the cheaper option asked on previous experience, or maybe the newer version of the iRig.

After just 24 hours I’m sending my B1on back. Tone wise I think its nicer than my B3n. The tones seem richer and deeper, without the slight low end mud i feel my B3n has (on headphones at least). But the noise is not something I cant live with. There is a slight buzzing sound on most of the patches, and a lot when i use more high gain patches. Although i can get it down it means using EQ or changing the tone i want. I know its only £55 so there will be compromises, but as i have the B3n as well ill stick with that for now. I have tried different cables/headphones and tried both battery and PSU.

Really? On my ipad once GB is set up with an amp sim running and in the background i dont need to open it agin unless i want to change the tone etc.

Got one of these the other day and i was expecting got hear more or less what my B3n produces. I’m was surprised at Howe ‘buzzy’ this is. Soem of the built in patches are very, noisy, and these don’t even have any OD or high gain. In fact even without a bass on the other end of the lead the unit is very noisy. Turning the master level down helps, but I’m wondering if this is normal. It’s definitely noisier than my B3n. Just running off batteries so no mains noise etc.

They don’t quite look the same but this might help https://www.talkbass.com/threads/what-is-the-difference-between-these-schroeder-cabinet-line.844625/

We supported Showaddywaddy at Butlin's about 8 years ago. Really good gig for us. Before we went on our guitarist had gone over and got chatting to one or two of them at sound check. When we were watching them he said he didnt recognise the guys he had spoken to,. Turns out the road crew did the sound checks and they turned up much later to go on. At least he tried.

Thanks for the reply. I normally use dbx160 - BDDI - DG B7K. That's all i need in my B3n for home use. Occasionally i need to turn the overall volume up or down, in relation to the ipads volume level, and on the B3n there is a dedicated master volume knob, rather than doing it at patch level. Not a deal breaker though. As i wont need more than one patch i guess i could duplicate it a couple of times at different levels.

I just ordered one of these to replace my B3n for home practice. Being able to power it off batteries will mean less wires. I only use one set of sounds at home and it looks like the B1 has more than i need. Can i ask if it has a volume knob that only effects the B1 tones (i will read the manual before it arrives).

Cheers. i just looked this up and it looks quite cool. Appreciate the lower quality of sound, but quite handy.

How does that work with playing along to MP3’s? Does it have an aux in?
-
Why not just play the MP3 file outside GB? They can play in the background (or foreground) while using GB as an amp sim.

and the lucky few.....

41mm for a P bass, 38mm for a Jazz, or anything up to 41m i guess. Funny thing though, i can play a 5 string with a 45mm nut fine, but really struggle with a 4 string with that nut width. I think part of it is string spacing as well.

That first iRig was awful, but the later ones also use the Lightning port.

I gave one away last week on here. It was a Gear4music one, only cost about £38 IIR. Seemed to offer good protection and wasn't too bulky as far as carrying via the hand strap, but too bulky and heavy for me to put on my shoulder. I only got it to keep two basses in storage but it ended up taking up more room than two separate bags. I also used to have a Fender one that was nice but again, shoulder use was definitely not recommended, especially with that case as the metal U ring at the top would all but crack my collar bone.

I do it two ways. One way is i use my iRig HD interface that plugs in to the ipad via the Lightning connector (NOT FireWire). The bass just plugs in to that and you don’t need any power leasd etc. Using something like GarageBand to give me amp sims I can then play along to any music/videos on the ipad. Works well and is the neatest option IMO. You still have all the slowing down features, as long as you have the right apps. There is a small latency but ive not found it to be an issue. I have found getting the right balance between bass (especially clean bass) and the music to be tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it it works really well. It also works well with my iphone and has been handy for working out songs at gigs backstage. Mostly these days i use my ipad in to my Zoom B3n via the headphone out, and plug my bass in to that as well. Then take the combind audio out fo the B3n via its headphone out. This seems to work better for me as i have more control over the bass tone/volume. More wires of course and the need for a plug.

When we have done these its gone 3 ways. We have been asked to arrive and set up before people arrive, so a very early get in, and a very long day. On the other hand sometimes the venue have to turn the room around (getting rid of tables etc) after the day time stuff and wedding breakfast, and that's another time the band can get in. It helps to be able to set up and sound check as fast as possible when its like this. We tend to unpack as much as we can and start putting things like the kit together before we load in if possible. Worse case for us is when you are asked to set up during the wedding breakfast (and speeches), but dont make any noise. Oh, and check with the venue or wedding party to see if they expect to use your mic for the speeches. We've had a few where we were told to arrive after the speeches etc, only to be moaned at because they wanted to use our mic's FOR the speeches. Just smile and be polite :-)
