1.
I had a chat about a month ago with a (ex Warwick) dealer - who will again remain nameless (lovely guy tho - actually bought his old dj5 off him as a private sale and still have it...anyway, i digress)... We started off talking about Lakland in the UK and how the exchange rate was killing it for the former importer but he went on to say that Warwick was another one that was once ubiquitous but is now hard to find new and basically for the reason Mart explained. He expanded further on this - one of the 'conditions' is that prospective dealers of Warwick basses are expected to stock and push their Hellborg amps as well. Now I'm sure they're wonderful devices but they are incredibly expensive (imho) and aesthetically a bit 'individual' so dealers must be a tad cautious about that. Plus it seems they are pretty 'old school heavy' - at a time when a lot of us are discovering that with the new generation neo magnets and switching power amps, hernias no longer come as standard... I can therefore understand why dealers aren't keen. I've never owned (or wanted) a Warwick but to me they are a bit 'interchangeable' with Spectors, pointy Sandbergs, natural-finish Yammies and the like - so maybe dealers are also finding it easy to offer other brands that fit the bill. But then, wtf do I know? I'm one of those phillistines that only likes basses that look like Leo designed them
That would be me! The shop went under sadly but we had made the decision to stop stocking Warwick's some time in the past. Whenever we would get inquiries from customers I would get to the meat of the conversation (price) and people were shocked with the prices we were quoting (and they were competitive!!!!). Put simply they priced themselves out of the market to customers. Every 6 months for 2 year period the cost price to dealers went up by 10-15% a time. As a dealer the commitment of goods you have to take on to be a Warwick Centre was prohibitive and unaffordable for us. To offer any German made Warwick's at all you had to have at least 12 in stock and a Hellborg system. Warwick offer no kind of credit account so you have to have the cash up front to pay for £20-30K of goods. The product is fantastic, the quality better than ever but at the prices they are now there isn't enough of a customer base to support sales at the prices they have set. £2.5k plus for neck through 5 string?? Double buck's with no options for over £1100?? That's why there isn't a UK dealer base anymore. Sad really coz the basses are great but at a time when the second hand value is so poor it's very hard to justify buying a new instrument. It was especially frustrating for us as we had always done well with the brand with many customers ordering custom shop instruments but we simply couldn't afford to keep stocking them. Oh and Sime I mentioned I had a white scratchplate for the DJ5 knocking around somewhere - I've found it. PM me if you want it and I'll drop it in the post.
2. Up for sale is my old sound-card. It's a Focusrite Saffire. It is sold unboxed (chucked it out a couple of years back - doh!) but in fully working order. Bought around 2008. I think it was around £280 at the time. I still have the Firewire cable it came with and a CDROM with a free version of Cubase LE on it. The drivers and manual are available to download for free from the Focusrite website. http://www.focusrite.com/downloads/saffire/ It did come boxed with an AC adaptor but as it runs fine on the Firewire connection I never needed it. I think they only included it as some Laptops couldn't supply enough power to run the card. Everything works fine and it records bass really well. The pre-amps are very decent. Buyers are welcome to collect from my address in Reading or I can package and post it out for another £10. Paypal, cheque (with time to clear) or bank transfer suits me fine. £60 Official blurb: The original Saffi re from Focusrite fuses state-of-the-art hardware with highly integrated software to take audio interfacing one giant step closer to the professional studio experience. 3. Went to the gig at the roundhouse last night and it was a little bit average. The sound was great, the venue was great but they didnt quite nail it for me. Maybe the venue was a little bit too big for them. Also the light show was terrible, just dull and uninspiring stuff which was unconnected to the songs. I would go and see them again but only in a smaller venue.
4. I am starting to obsess over this bass. I want one. The colour, neck shape, pickups, and its custom shop! Can I justify the 2k plus tag? Nope but I'm going to hunt one out!
5. Hi guys I play in an instrumental prog trio called Heights. It's certainly leaning towards the heavier side of what you could term as modern prog, mostly thanks to our drummer Jay who is a metalhead - he also plays in a signed band called Tesseract - go check them out! Its great only having guitar, bass and drums and not running any samples or keys. It does give a lot more space for melodies from all 3 of us. We have a couple of albums out and gig sporadically around new releases. We have had good press in the likes of Kerrang, rock sound, classic rock prog and some radioplay on total rock and Kerrang radio (unsigned band of the week last week!). Have a listen! 6. We had a standard 4 and premium 5 into work. We sent the 4 back due to a few finish issues but kept the 5 which sold really quickly. The 5 was infinitely better than the standard 4 in every respect. You get the upmarket Fishman system with the tuner built in, the Bubinga back and sides and it just felt like a better instrument. Unless it really was a Friday afternoon job I would really say get the premium over the standard. Disappointing they dont come with rockbag gigbags for the price but they do include the same folder of extra stuff which the German made Warwick's include.
7. The metal scene is dominated by a program called drumkit from hell by toontrack. Its ridiculously high quality samples recorded by top notch session players including thomas haake from meshuggah. It does enable bands to achieve huge sounding drum tracks which is always the most time consuming and difficult part of recording. As you can get all the drum tracks done before going into the studio to record it saves loads of time and leaves the band to concentrate on getting good takes by the other guitar players and singers. It can obviously give a very false impression of a bands musical abilities as it means you can get technically perfect drum takes which might not be anyway representative of the abilities of the player. There are a few metal labels who outwardly reject recordings made using the software as it means they don't really know if the band can play! It is pretty distinctive sounding and can be easy to spot but to a casual listener they wouldn't know any better! It's also got its place in allowing guitarists (who are often the main soundwriters in many bands) the ability to program guide drums to their riffs and take them to rehersal to give the drummer more of an idea of what they want on the tune.
8. TI Jazz flats on my Jazz. After 6 months on I'm amazed at how they cut through live. They just seem to find all the space I couldnt find before with regular round nickel or stainless strings. I dread the day I break one and have to change the set!
9. looked like a Jazz to me, passive and olympic white with matching headstock. Knowing his pedigree and history of playing really high end basses from the likes of Avella Coppola etc I would imagine it was a real old one or Custom shop reissue. Great tone and top performance. I would have liked to have heard them play a new tune. Maybe they have a greatest hits coming out I suppose.
10. I seriously think this is worth more than £135!!!! I would say a fair price is around £250-£300. Bargain to whoever snaps it up!!
11. Especially when Ashdown still have no stock of the Chineese made version! it doesnt exist at the moment, the only way to get a LB is to buy the UK made version.
12. I've just enjoyed a brilliant half an hour looking at the basses on the site. The translations are hillarious!!! I think its google attempting to work out the intricacies of the specs on these instruments. I particulary enjoyed this one: It is a reissue of the jazz base of the type for 62 years. A beautiful condition is comparatively kept though there are top slightly minute [u**] of the body and a detailed abrasion. In backing, there are a dent wound shallow like 15mmx6mm and minute little [u**]. It doesn't stand out in not deep damage that reaches wood both of these but the long-sight. The whole content is not told easily in the image. The dirt that soaks into long and slender [u**] and the painting of about 10mm is seen in the part where the side that came to set up the base downward put out Japanese parsleys most. There are playing wounds in the pick guard and the reception desk picking up. Luster is kept though a small macula by rust has been slightly generated in the plating of the control plate. The condition of the problem is excellent. Fred's decrease is hardly seen. [Gentaka] by 12 Fred is about 1.9mm on four bowstring side, and about 1.6mm on one bowstring side. Some wounds and use [**] are excellent overall including the performance conditions though it is. B + near A. The serial number is O025016. Crafted In Japan is printed. It is made of 1997-2000 years. Accessory: Manufacturer pure software case 'Pure software case, Japanese parsleys most.' Actually pretty much the whole description in quotable!!!
13. I've got one of those and I've never noticed any issues with noise although it is my only live pedal. I would try running it off a battery and see if the hum vanishes. If it does then you know you need an isolated power supply. There are loads of good ones out there and the TREX pedal power supplies are superb. On an old set-up I had 10+ pedals and the differance from going from 2 DC cheap bricks (£30 each) to a TREX Fuel tank was huge. It was akin to upgrading all my patch cables again.
14. I really liked it too. The mix was very bass light even on BBC HD but the band were spot on throughout the whole set. I couldn't see a bass backline so I guess he was just using inears. They looked like they were having a ball too which I always like to see - none of that moody rockstar nonsense.
15. That looks fantastic! It seems very well priced, especially with the plek set-up. I would go for it but I'm off on hols next week! Best of luck with the sale.
16. This one sold a while ago! Please delete mods!
17. That is fantastic - the tone is great as is the playing!
18. All access, electric blue, MAG, ABM are Chineese made. ABM and MAG were originally made in the UK but now only Classic and the new all valve range will come from these shores!
19. There will probably be a new version launched at Frankfurt next month so it might be worth holding on to see what Fender do to the model.
20. I'm heading up to London to put this into the Gallery for £1199. For tonight I'm going to take it down to £1049! Let me know if anyone is interested!
21. That is astonishing. You really couldn't make it up!
22. anyone interested??
23. Thanks for the interest but I am more looking for a cash buyer or a potential trade for a new amp head.
24. Sadowsky Metro MV4- Transparent white, Maple Board, VTC fitted. As much as I love this bass I’ve realised I really haven’t played it properly for about 6 months so I may as well turn it back into cash and dig myself out of my overdraft. It’s approximately 2 1/2 years since I bought it new from Alex at the Bass gallery. He said it had appeared in a review in a UK guitar magazine but I don’t remember exactly which one. It easily sounded the best out of the 6 or 7 metro basses they had at the time. Since owning it I have gigged it maybe 50 times and used it for a fair amount of recording and practice. It has not been abused, or mistreated, this is a beautifully made instrument and I have done my best to keep it in top order. This is a really light bass too, I don’t have the means to weigh it buts at least 3lbs lighter than my Fender Jazz. Description There is minimal fret wear with at least another 3 years of regular playing before it should need a fret dress. All the tuners are geared fine with no problems with tuning stability. The back of the neck has a smooth satin finish which has become softer after a couple years of playing. It has no marks or dents anywhere on the neck front or back. It does have two indentations on the end of the headstock caused by an errant cymbal on a very small and dark stage! It’s clearly visible in the pics. It has the VTC which I had retrofitted last year to take it up to the current spec of Metro basses. Everything works fine with the electronics with no issues, scratchy pots, etc. To those who don’t know the circuit it’s Volume, blend, passive tone (pull for eq bypass) and stacked bass and treble boost. The passive mode sounds great and is a fairly equal volume balance compared to active so it’s totally useable. It is set up with D’addario 45-105 Nickel wound strings with a fresh set on the bass. It has a few very minor dings on the body which I will detail. All the dings are tiny knocks in the top layer of lacquer with no heavy clunk marks. You can only see them when you hold the bass at the right angle in direct light. There is a little ding on the very top side of the bass about 3cm back from the strap button. Its approx 1cm long. If you really look at the back of bass it has some very minor buckle marks but you have to really be looking for them. When you touch the back of the body you cant feel any indentations at all. The most visible is a scratch about 2 cm long about 6 inches above the control cavity. Again this is only in the clear lacquar and does not go through to the wood. It comes with the original Sadowsky Foam lightweight case which has stayed in the house since I bought it. When moving it around I have used a Levy’s gigbag as it’s a little easier when walking with it than the rectangular Sadowsky case. I have used it for most of the recordings you can listen to here: www.myspace.com/heightsuk in particular try Balancing equations, Diabolos, Cryptozoologists field day. Price wise I am looking for £1049 for this bass. If this bass doesn’t sell on here I am going to put it into the bass gallery at a higher price to take into account their commission. I can accept cash, cheque or Paypal. I am located near Reading town centre and buyers are welcome to inspect the bass and try it through an amp. I may consider trades for Aguilar AG500 + cash or Mesa M Pulse 600. I can ship the bass through UK mail, insured UK shipping is around £20 and it will be thoroughly packaged to survive the rigours of the journey! I have sold goods on here before with good feedback. I shifted my PJB Bass Buddy and also a Korg multi effects not too long ago. Any questions please ask away, I always try to check back here every night. Send me a PM or reply on this thread. Ta! Jonno.
25. I had a streamer Jazzman and I'm pretty sure it was a maple top/swamp ash back instrument. Is yours 100% ovankgol body as that would make it a custom order bass??
