4. I think they look absolutely fantastic (apart from the "rivet" type things). Sound like they're made with great components using the Nordstrands. Be a bit of sod to keep clean though, finger prints and all.
5. I had EMG P in a Mike Dirnt Precision I used to own. They tend to have a little hotter output, are a bit cleaner and more hi-fi but in a very positive way. Not clinical and sterile. When you dig in, I've always thought they're very punchy and articulate but have a bit of underlying aggression, great for a classic rock tone IMO. If a more "rounded" Precision tone is your thing, rolling off the tone control brings back the "thump". Ultimately, I'd go with Simon, it'll still sound very much like a Precision. T
6. God yeah! Saw them loads of times during the 90's. Some really great tunes played by great musicians. One of those bands you'd go and see at small venues and only be feet from. Brilliant. Derrick Taylor is such a fabulous player, always aspired to be like him. Always the right notes at exactly the right times, never over played and the groove is king. Always deep in the pocket! What a great bassist should be IMHO. T
7. Top rig. Looks (and no doubt sounds) amazing. I used to have a Trace V8 (now with CK) and used it with the Ampeg 410HLF and 810E depending on size of venue. Sounded amazing, like an SVTII on steroids. The 410HLF is such a great cab. Such a huge sound in a single cab, big bottom but loads of articulation too. Tut, wish I'd never had sold both of them..... T
8. That's just flipping blinking lovely! How come I missed this at the time?! B*gger..... T
9. What a great idea.....god, all those years I had an 810E and dragged around guitar stands! I'd have killed for something as practical as this. Super idea. T
10. BUMPITY BUMP! Brought one of the prototypes Area 51s from Andy at Wizard for my 62 reissue precision as I wanted something very traditional looking but modern punchy and crunchy sounding. He even 'roughed it up' for me so it'd match the reissue vibe of the Precision. Fabulous sounding pickup, loads of output but looks the part and is really flexible. Trad P sounds with the tone rolled off and the volume backed off a tad but has the "SD QuarterPounder with another QuarterPounder, three layers of full fat cheese and a slice of lard"!
11. Congrats on the new band, they look and sound great. Same situation with me too. Not done anything since well before Christmas after the last band imploded spectacularly. Since then, I've dabbled with the idea of getting back into it but the reality of family life and work has taken a justifably bigger priority over "living the dream". To be honest, whilst it was odd for the first couple of months not regularly gigging or rehearsing, I've not missed it as much as I thought. It's actually been a chance to re-evaluate what I want from music, bass playing and being in a band and the more auditions I've had, the more I realise what I REALLY want from a band. Probably in the past I would have gone with the flow and joined the first thing that came along but I've been much more picky this time. Following on from this, I auditioned for a covers band over the weekend and I'm now back in the saddle so to speak. Nice blokes, good musicians, no egos/BS, reasonable set list and gigs coming up. I never thought I'd say it but I'm getting mildly excited about playing bass in a band again! T
12. Followed a link on MusoFinder to a rather rare and equally delicious factory Gold Sparkle 64 Jazz. Admittedly, a marmite bass, you'll either love it or hate it... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1964-FENDER-JAZZ-BAS...p3286.m63.l1177 Look at the Buy It Now price FFS! Best part of £170? For a thumb rest?! T
13. Saw U2 at Croke Park on Saturday night. Brilliant gig. Yeah, waiting for the usual flames about the music but hey, like I give a toss... Anyway, doing my usual "trainspotter" bass thing and in amongst Adam Clayton's usual Fender collection of Jazzes and Precisions, he played a couple of Warwicks. I was absolutely stunned to be honest, always had him down as a Fender (or boutique Fender with the recent Lakland usage) man. The first Warwick used early on in the set seemed to be a Dolphin bodied Buzzard neck thing. The other, later on, was a Streamer with a twin Precision pickup layout (a la John Enthwistle Buzzard). Dunno. Was surprised that Warwick had obviously done some custom shop stuff for him. T
14. If the dealer is only 5 mins away, maybe it'd be worth going to have a look before you dismiss them. I brought a Zoot 112 a while ago on BassBunny's recommendation and the review in BGM. Gotta say, best purchase of recent times as I've been as pleased as punch with it. In my case, I wanted a small light punchy crisp cab for smaller gigs where taking the much larger and heavier EBS gear was impractical. Phoned Zoot up, spoke to Mike at length and he built me a 4 Ohm 112 which was with me in days. Needed the 4 Ohm version as, with my EBS head running at 2 Ohms, wanted to push a larger amount of power into the single cab but still have the ability to buy another at a later date for a mini-stack thing. At present, the plans for the second really haven't been a problem as the single cab sounds great as it is. Big punchy sound, rich and articulated tone and incredibly well made. Being neo, dead light too. Guess what I'm saying is that for everyone who tells you stuff is sh*t, there's always someone else who loves it so maybe go and have a listen and make your mind up yourself. HTH T
15. Hey, if it's competition and there's something to be won, I'm not proud. All three below taken at the same gig. The gig where I'd consumed a reasonable amount of alcohol and seemed to be looking as if I was passing a kidney stone or having an unexpected loose bowel movement in every shot. I have no shame. Please send me my free cab now I'm a laughing stock.
16. Hi All, My Villex PRTB for sale, removed from my recently sold MIA 62 Reissue Precision. IHMO, such an amazing bit of kit, what a difference it made! Installing it into the Precision felt like I'd got a lot more midrange honk, much better when playing fingerstyle without it going all boomy. The classic precision sound in bypass but the tones with the Villex gave a lot more mid-range flexibility. Not just Precisions though. The Villex is suitable for loads of active and passive applications, see Ped's review here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2462 £45.00 posted Cheers Tony
17. Steve's just purchased my Bartolini MMC. Diamond geezer, prompt payer, good communications! Would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to deal with him. All the best Tony
18. All, Kevin's purchased my Fender MIA 62 Reissue Precision. Top fella, great communications and prompt payment. He's a really decent bloke, really enjoyed dealing with him, in particular talking about our shared love of all things Ska. I've absolutely no hesitation recommending him to any BC'er looking to deal with him. Cheers Tony

21. Hi Steve, It's a standard MM replacement as far as I know. It was wired as a direct humbucking MM pickup in my Flea, straight into the Aguilar OBP-3, kinda the way they are wired in Rays from what I can recall of Ray's I've owned in the dim and distant past. Some useful links: Some instructions from Talkbass Wiring instructions from the Bartolini website The installation menu page from the Bartolini website HTH Tony
Hi T Can you tell me, is the pickup wired in series or parallel ? Also, I assume it's a direct replacement for a MM Stingray pup. Cheers Steve
