1. Howdy all! My covers band is looking to record three to five songs over the next couple of months. We're reaching the stage where we're looking to poach more gigs (other than the usual handful of venues we usually do by word of mouth) and consequently need something convincingly punchy and "live" to drop onto a CD/DVD and also paste onto our website. We're a four piece playing rock covers. Guitar/Vox, Guitar, Drums and me doing the Bassin! Having played the tunes extensively over the past four to five years, we're wanting something that sounds "live" and spontaneous (reflecting what we are as a live band) but also is quality recorded and consequently tonally rich and full on. Any ideas of suitable (and cost effective) recording studios? We're Birmingham, Solihull and Rugeley based so areas in the region thereof? Cheers me dears! Tony
 2. Bumpity Bump! (Ummmmmm, hoping it sells as I'm jealously eyeing Beedsters Precision )
 3. Wow! That is a real stunner! Something really wonderfully sexy about a white Stingray with a RW board. T
 4.
I would absolutely love this. It looks fantastic IMO and I bet those MFDs sound great. If my Precision sells in the near future I'll be in touch. Otherwise good luck with the sale.
Cheers Ray, The MFD's sound absolutely huge. Great punchy tone but a simple roll off of the treble and into passive gives you a great P'esque thump. P'esque.....if that's not a word, it should be! Just had a look at your Precision (Ray's P Bass). Wow. That's a great looking bass at a such great price, can't believe no one has had that off you. Bloody credit crunch! The RW against the Pearl paintwork looks pretty special. Pity I've already got a Precision or I'd be up for a trade. Good luck with the sale buddy. T
 5. Howdy all! ***** PRICE DROP TO £560 because I want to buy Josh's Spector!! ***** also open to trades, let me know what you've got! Up for sale is my G&L ASAT semi hollow in Honeyburst with a RW neck. Absolutely fantastic bass with a typically cultured and punchy G&L growl in the region of a Precision on steroids but with a underlying Ray vibe. Looks/plays like a fabulously looking/playing thing. Don't think the fact that it's a semi-hollow makes it sound acoustic. The hollow chamber is on the upper section of the body only (under the f-hole). This consequently gives you a full on electric electric bass but the hollow chamber gives the tone a little more life and makes the traditional tones breathe a little more. Really playable jazzish feeling neck (not chunky at all), MFD pickups into the extremely flexible G&L preamp. Controls are vol/bass boost/treble boost with switches for pickup selection, series/parallel and treble boost/active/passive. Despite the many options available on the preamp, they're all great sounding and very usable. It comes with an original G&L hardcase. It's a great bass and I'm only thinking about letting it go as it's sat at home now gathering dust since I got my 62 Reissue Precision. The P fits the covers/functions gig more as it's a "bash it about" traditional sounding "thumpy" bass tone, it's visually more traditional for a traditional rock gig and it means I can care a little less about it when I gig than I would do with the sexy looking and sounding ASAT. All the very best Tony
 6.
If you don't recognise the advantages of both, you don't know your instrument.
+1. See grovelling typo correction.
 7.
NOOO...Real Bassists play an instrument thats capable of playing notes LOWER than thin stringers. Glad you are happy Homer
Aggggghhhhh! Cabernet induced TYPO!!!!!! Sorry all! Meant to say.... "+1 with thinking the 'real bassists only use their fingers' IS TOTAL BOLLOX." T
 8.
I use both, often during the same song. My quick switching is all down to me just dropping the pick or grabbing one off of wherever I left it. Just makes more sense to be able to do both techniques to me, because my teacher taught me with both, and I can use both easily. Zach
+1 with thinking the "real bassists only use their fingers". Re switching. On tunes where I use a plectrum (hey, lets use the "proper" English ;-), I pop it into my mouth. Dunno why, just find it easier, more handy and cheaper than lugging it away then having to pick one from the top of an amp or from the mic stand. Does have it's downside. Remember almost swallowing one during a particularly energetic "Beethoven" ending to a set once. LOL T

 10. I phoned Andy, talked through what I was after and what I currently used and he sorted it out EXACTLY. Based on this, he built me a prototype "Area 51 Stealth" (a new model based on a "souped up" Thumper) for my Fender MIA 62 Reissue Precision. High output, loads of mids, a good top end and some "air" in the tone were the important requirements as all my other gear is active and I wanted some parity with the output levels and tones of the other instruments. The top end articulation was quite important without sacrificing so much of the traditional "thump" of the Precision. As it was going into a Reissue vintage vibed Fender, he also "relic'd" up the covers and polepieces a little to make it look more authentic. Great detail! Give him a call. I think everyone will agree that Andy ALWAYS goes well out of his way to give you what you want. That, added to the fact that they're such amazing quality, great value and made here in the UK. T
 11. Howdy y'all, Up for sale is my EBS MultiDrive pedal. Specs here... http://www.ebs.bass.se/2007/multidrive.htm Not using it much, the EBS HD350 I've got does the very very subtle valve breakup thing (with the "drive" control) well enough for me not to want to bother with a stomp pedal, no matter how good it is. If you're after everything from gentle valve drive to mental overdrive distortion, the MultiDrive does it brilliantly. Will probably regret shifting it on when we decide to do a cover of "Peaches" or "Ace of Spades" but my loss etc Looking for £80 inc postage. Feel free to PM me with questions. Cheers T
 12. I've just had an EBS MultiDrive off Chris. Top geezer, great comms, fast delivery and the pedal came brilliantly packaged. Buy with confidence! T
 13.
Nooooo, not this again! Mine was a 76 possibly 78 P bass with a 57 maple neck. I regret that so much, it gets me down.
+1 on a 76 Precision. Battered as fck, a great looker and a great player. Picked it up for a bargain at the music store I was then working at. STUPIDLY (notice the CAPS), I got rid of it later as I was playing stuff which didn't suit it. Lo and behold, I join a rock covers band a couple of months later and it's EXACTLY the bass I needed for the stuff I was doing! DOH. 14.
Topless darts...my all-time favourite programme....ever
"WEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLCCCCCOOOMMEEEE to Topless Darts with me, Jimmy Frinton!" Happy days!
 15.
Mate you are unfortunately correct. I took the strings off last night to find the nut very worn under the B string. The bass was described as near mint condition and I am now stuck as I left positive feedback for the guy yesterday morning. I've learnt the lesson to thoroughly check over an item next time. Looks like I'll be ordering a nut from Warwick, does anyone know if I have any ground to stand on demanding the seller to say refund me the cost for a new one?
Probably being a thicko but will ask anyway. From recollection of the two Thumbs (1990 4 and 1991 5 NT's) I've owned in the past, the nuts should be the "Just-A-Nut" types that should be adjustable up and down. Is the slot two deep or too wide for the string? If it's the former, should it just be a case of adjusting it up a bit? If it's the latter and I've not read the thread closely, I'll get me coat! T
 16.
But now I have a double gig bag the spare strings, fast fret, cloths, etc are in that so it's easier to take that than to mess about move everything over to a single case each gig. So both Shukers (and the upright) go to my main band gigs.
+1 on the double gig bag. I've had my (lovely) Levy's double gig bag for years now and it's always been the same effort to lug two basses to a gig as it has with one. In terms of a "spare", not so important for me as having a tonal alternative. I know it sounds a bit extravagant but it's nice to simply have the options of a differing sounding bass if I fancy a change. However, guess if I didn't have the double bag, I'd probably only take the one for the "less grief" vibe. T
 17.
If he's got the newer HD350, he won't be getting the best out of the amp unless you load it to 2 ohms... Shifting that much air out of a 810 should ofset the difference however. If he's going for a more rock sound, the Fafner is probably a more sensible change.
Stop talking about me!! My ears are burning although that could be the tinnitus To be honest, before the ProLine cabs came along, I used my HD350 for a fair while with the 4 ohm Ampeg 810E or the 410HLF cabs I had at the time. Never had an issue with the lack of power to be fair, I know technically you're getting the full 350w into 2 ohm and a bit less at 4 ohm but we both know that it's a somewhat conservative power rating and the HD350 has always "sounded" louder than the spec sheet suggests. Hence me looking at the 4 ohm Ashdown. Dunno, it's not that I'm unhappy with my EBS gear though, quite the opposite. Fabulous amp and cabs they are. Muchly nicely loudness! Maybe to get a little valve like grit back, probably makes more sense going down the EBS MultiDrive pedal route which will help me introduce a little more warmth/breakup but still let me keep the wonderfully articulated EBS punch. EBS_Freak, you've tried the MultiDrive and have also heard my rig live, I'd appreciate your opinion as an objective observer. T
