Only 'budget' in price! The quality of these is amazing for the money!
Absolutely! Used my Classic J last night at rehearsal and can't believe how good it played and sounded. Left my other (WAYYYYYY more expensive) bass in the gig bag all night.
TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY QUID. Insane amount of bass for that
I can't believe it's still here. As I said the other day, it's a fantastic bass for not a fantastic amount of money. After using the Classic J last night, would be REALLY tempted if I'd not already got Mrs Tonyf on my back about the number of basses cluttering up Chez Tonyf
They've been there a while I think. At least 10 years I'd say. They started off in a smaller shop that is now the drum shop. A couple of years ago they moved a few doors down to a shop that is only slightly bigger!
Whereabouts are they Michelle? Actually in Stirchley or on the Pershore Road? Was rehearsing at Rich Bitch tonight so should have had a look around the area. Regularly gig at the Roadhouse so know that part of the world reasonably well. T
Steve and Bob at The Music Exchange, Stirchley (Birmingham) are top blokes and really helpful. However it is just a small second hand music shop so you just have to take pot luck with whatever they might have in at the time. Got my Fender P there about a year ago (it was the only Fender they had in at the time). And, as I have mentioned in my other thread today, they tipped me off about the Ibanez that the guy in the drum shop was selling. That's International Drums, also in Stirchley, also small and friendly. He has one or 2 guitars and basses in.. I think he just gets them in as PX's sometimes. It's great that there are 2 music shops so close together and so near to me!
Blimey, in all these years of being erm, a Brummie, I never knew there was a music shop in Stirchley. Completely missed that, despite living here for most of my life (in Solihull nowadays). Guess I've always been loyal to, and never ventured far from, the main stores such as PMT, FairDeal and the old Sound Control. Mind you, I've not ventured into Guitar Guitar yet so hey, what do I know? T

Due to other commitments and home life, I've had to reluctantly relinquish my duties as the bassist in The Retro Band so I'm trying to help my mates out and find a replacement. The Retro Band is a 5 piece covers band (bass, vox/guitar, guitar. keys and drums) based in the West Midlands. They rehearse between Central Birmingham and Burntwood as (two members live north of the city). They're experienced gigging musicians and really top blokes. The band has their own PA and quality gear. The music is "standard" covers from the 60's onwards but with a leaning towards more modern pop/rock. The set list is pretty diverse, they're forever dropping in new tunes so it will keep you on your toes from a technical point of view. In terms of interpretation, it's not "tribute" so there's always a freedom to take tracks and mix them up a bit. The most important aspect of the set though is that it's meant to entertain and keep the crowd on their feet. In terms of commitment, rehearsal 3-4 times a month with the same expectation to gig when the band's back to it's full lineup. However, as the guys are "normal" and all have jobs and families, there's never any pressure to be totally 24/7. I'm not just saying this because it's been part of my musical life for the past 5 years but this is a really good band to be in, from both a social and musical point of view. If you're interested, PM me with your details so I can pass them forward to the guys. The Overwater Tanglewood basses are amazing instruments for the money. I picked up a CAR Classic J a few weeks ago in a trade and can't believe how good an instrument it is. Love the modern vibe. Those block markers against the maple board look amazing.

I sympathize with the whole "can't get up thing". In an uncharacteristic rush of blood to the head, I did a "last number jump off the stage" thing at a gig a few months ago. The stage was slightly higher than I'd calculated, meaning I was moving forward as I landed and couldn't get my trailing leg out quick enough. Over I went into a sudo-parachute roll, in a vain attempt to protect my bass, and ended up exactly like Mr Tuffnal, on my back unable to leverage myself up as i was trying not to mess the bass line up. Cue the indignity of having to be helped up by two of the audience. Still, apparently I didn't miss a note. What a pro. #couldadonethat20yearsago #toooldforrocknroll #knowyourlimitsoldfella
All I can think of now is this: http://youtu.be/ikHQT6mluhk?t=9s Good luck :-)
Good man. Loving the Berg! Got mine paired with a GB Streamliner 900 and it just sounds better and better, the more gigs I do with it. T

Me and Toby swapped basses, I had his Overwater/Tanglewood Classic 4 with my Schecter CA5 Custom going in the other direction. A top bloke, Tobias is a true gent and I'd have no reservations in recommending him to anyone buying, selling or trading with him. Thanks Toby
