1. You could easily drop an email to the fighting cocks in kingston , Im pretty sure they let out the Gig room for rehearsals and other such things in the day time / when there arent gigs on. For reference ... been a long time since i played the place mind you and this is a stock image from google .... Im not putting awful images of me ages 18 on here :-P
2. Ha ha , shame i haven't got the bass , its up in Colchester with status ... my post work practice has reminded my that I'm definitely a jazz person .. :-) Perhaps when its back in a week or so , ill fire you a PM ... perhaps you come round have a nice Belgian beer , or soft beverage of your choice and a noodle on it . ~ How are you feeling now the telebass has gone ? of course this bass is not for sale ... never ever No No ... well maybe ... to the right person who'll treat her right . This links for grayn that's what it would look like if it were furnished with a J
3. thanks Paul , I think that's why i fell for it ... despite it being not what i conventionally use. Rob knows how to make a REAL purrrtty bass ... it spends far far too much time on the wall and not being played .
4. whew ... nope CAR is the only colour i cant deal with :-D
5. Ha Ha .... this is terrible we're all awful ... Lou how much do you want for that 75 Avri .... if its white i could be in trouble
6. Its actually up with Rob in the status workshop right now , having a service and robs assessing if it could take a J pickup in the bridge position , which might make me actually want to play the thing .. shame, because visually its a thing of beauty which i just cant get on with.
7. Ray , i know how your feeling i suffer massive buyers and sellers remorse but if its the right decision to let it go because the bass isn't working for you ... then its the right decision, I do the same with my "good bass" its not really right for me but i regret keeping it around because I dont play it enough over my cheapy jazz if you suddenly feel nostalgia for a telebass , but with a status twist... jump on the train or 281 to Kingston ill let you have a go on this .
8. i'm using one of these with a decent set of over ear cans' and no speaker connected , It works a treat .... its a tiny 5 watt amp but sounds excellent , based on an SVT amp model. http://www.hotoneaudio.com/products/nanolegacy/74.html When i can plug it into my Cab ( 8 ohms) its capable of getting very loud indeed far too loud to use with somone else in the house . i've even got one on my pedal board for rehearsal, which means all i have to do is connect it to the cab in the studio :-)
9. I'm running a great sounding set of black nylon tape wounds on my acoustic bass , http://www.daddario.com/DADProductFamily.Page?ActiveID=3768&familyid=20&sid=d2ff4991-393a-443e-8863-aeeb13aea87e Really helps against the loud finger movement noise that this sort of instrument can be prone too , and helps gives me that acoustic thump i'm looking for from my Aria AMB ... You can still dig in to get a more modern sound too if i raise the mid and treble when plugged in, but most of the time this instruments for lazy desk based jamming .
10. Ill take the Ashdown Compressor please Pm incoming
11. Darn I'm in Kingston and would have loved that aria, i have a bit of a soft spot for them , if it falls through let me know . lyle
12. Hey Doctor , I'm really rather drawn to this I work in Staines ( live in kingston) would it be out of the question to have a look at it Synth / lyle
13. Honestly its not much that can go wrong on a passive bass going on my personal experience a good guitar tech would probably look at replacing the pot , because either the soldier has become loose on the wire or the pot is very close to failing Any guitar tech is probably going to cost you a minimum of £50 pounds , However I'd strongly urge you to take a look as it yourself , you can learn an awful lot ... and its actually ridiculously easy . All you need is one of these , because if a wire has come loose a its a minute job with a soldiering iron to just re- melt the solider and get a good contact. http://www.amazon.co...=soldering+iron Failing that you could replace the whole Wiring Loom yourself with one of KiOgon's famous soldierless looms :-) If you muck up with the solidering iron ... its still going to be £50 at the tech ;-)
14. Urgh I hate you Stevie-D thats my birthday bass ... and in the right colour combination as well >.< How much :-P
15. The best way to post pictures on here , is to use a 3rd party like photobucket , to host the picture then use the links it generates to insert them into your text on here
16. I'm a relative youngster in my covers band , the others are late 40's our front man, turned drummer ( due to losing our drummer) Can play all of instruments to a far higher standard than the rest of the band . He's frequently telling me that I don't have to do it perfectly like the original we are looking for the feel of the song , key phrases and the such but there are occasions where i FLAT out don't know a song we are going to learn . Fortunately modern technology is amazing i;ve got me a subscription to Songster http://www.songsterr.com/a/wa?ref=499253 Which basically does the tascam trainer thing , where you can slow down , loop and basically learn the part ... If songster doesnt have it ... youtube and spotifiy usually will . Remember you're auditioning for a covers band ... if you have advertised yourself as the second coming of flea they will expect you to slap ... Otherwise lay down a solid groove make sure you know the root's for the chords at the very least , lock in with there drummer ... and you'll be fine. never sacrifice the time-feel to hit a note.
17. I' didn't call it 50hz hum because were more familiar with the term , 60hz hum , but yes cheap ass pick-ups with a cheap ass unshielded loom sat a little too close to my amp in the living room ( volume quite low to not irritate she who would be obeyed) Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ... required me to change my volume / tone settings to make it go away ... since getting a loom upgrade the Hum ... she is gone :-P and i can set the pickups to my old settings and sit mere inch's from my speaker .
18. Sorry Chienmortbb... I dont agree with that in the slightest , with a quality loom , pots and control's which are far more usable my stock rubbish ... the tone control went from an on off button that seemed to turn on at about 50% and get even more nuts at 100% ... to a gradual control that add's brightness as i roll it. The 60 Hz hum that i'd get from my single coils is totally gone due to them being properly shielded .. and he offers whatever cap's you want ... so if you want a grease-bucket he can do it ... if you want vintage he can do that ... Yes of course upgrade the Pu's but the loom makes a huge difference too ...
19. i'm going to second what Conan said ... about Kiogon's custom loom's His noiseless soldier less loom has changed my cheap jazz basses life ... major props to that man . Incidentally Bexhill on sea .. We used to vacation just up the coast from you in Normans bay .
20. Hey, I know this has a "40"mm " nut width but would you say this is a jazz profile neck , I've been considering a maruszczyk for a little while and this would fit the bill quite closely i am just concerned as im very used to a 38mm fender type neck ? synth
21. I run flats on my Jazz , and my Stringray type 5 , the only thing that doesn't get this treatment is my T-Bird ;-) With a brighter flat like a chrome .. i get a huge variety out of the jazz .... I think the easiest way to tell is how do yo want your bass to sound If like me you find that tone knobs are much more likely to be set to 1 -3 rather than 8-10 , Then you'd benefit from using flats ;-) Putitng flats on the Tbird just seems like a bad idea :-P though
22. KiOgon ... is that an Aerodyne in disguise .... Fenderbots ... Roll out ? ?? !!
23. Hah Hah , the thing that i find on my five is that the string spacing is if anything ... Too tight.
24. As Long term lurker in this thread and frequent peruser of public peace ... i'm strongly considering pulling the trigger on one of his stock Elwood C's in the rather fetching white rabbit guise Does anyone within 30 mins or so of london have one of these ... i could try ? Im concious of the fact that he uses a 40mm rather than 38mm neck and after being burnt on a bass i didnt play before buying i'd really rather lay my claws on one.
25. To be honest i can get that angry sound out of a few of my bass's my Epid Tbird with different amounts of tone depending on the song and the bass slightly dropped on my Eq and the mids raised a bit more than i use for smoother stuff, getting the grow from it is as much about right hand position .. i play between my pickups but slightly closer to the bridge the more bright it want it to be and run through the Tube screamer patch from my zoom B3 ... Instant Angry and very usable sound used for Ace of spades ,(even more mids and more gain) / Chelsea dagger ( with the tone pot on 10 and mid's dialed back a little bit) For rock you cant beat a cheap n cheerful T-bird.... Second hand they go for around £150 in top nick and less for that the more beat they are , ( especially the older korean made ones like this which tbh are a lot better than the later stuff (MIC) http://www.ebay.co.u...ZkAAOSwLN5Wkooh that's from the unsung factory looking at the neck plate .. one considered to be one of the better at quality. They make you feel like a loony with that giant plank strapped to you ... and part of what channels that aggression ... is the angry 13 year old inside escaping into the practice room ... theres an easy fix for the neck dive on these as well due to the bolt on construction.
