1.
According to a post I saw on TalkBass, Mexican Fenders are made in Mexico by Mexicans... ...and American Fenders are made in America by Mexicans.
Probably
2. I used to have thus issue - I just listened closely to lots of music and clapped along, after not much time you get better . You also start to spot clues in the music such as a key change, chord change, verse or chorus start
3. Every mex I have tried has been at least competent - even the older stuff. Two mex jazzes that I have tried have been really good, a classic 50s P was superb
4.
I can't deny that rosewood is classic, but maple is lovely with the TV logo. Damn, I want my old bass back SO MUCH....
Yeah baby ..., very nice
5. Nice work there, Howard
6. Yes it probably is. They are not bad.
7.
It depends on the maple neck, too. Those shown above are very pale. An aged or vintage tint maple works much better.
I have just such a tinted maple neck on mine.
Isn't it horrible? The tortoise shell scratchplate just doesn't go with the neck at all in my eyes. It's not the contrast of the dark scratchplate with the light colour of the wood, because if the scratchplate was black it would be one of my favourite colour combinations.
Exactly what I have ! Mine looks like this one eBay : 181202092766 It did have reddish tort for a while and I liked the combo, but didnt like the actual tort that was used
8. Two or three years for my bassdoc built P bass 'twas worth it
9. Oh - there he is . Yes - I have a question . Ill be in Orlando next Easter time - where can I see a brubaker ?
10. If we are talking "all the way through" it would have to be the (simple) version of "all along the watch tower" off "Rattle and Hum" I figured it out by ear, along with the small rhythmic variations in an otherwise fairly consistent riff. It made me want a sunburst 70s precision just for the sound alone,.
11. Not surprised its shifted at that price
12. Their rep is on here - tomrichards
13.
As a parent I would be more upset that my son kept an instrument in the back of a cupboard and never played it. Sell it for one you will play.
This. But - the replacement has to be a good quality item
14. My p bass - if is comfortable and seems to do everything
15.
I didn't know Tunbridge Wells was near Mansfield.
No - just a joke. Didnt bother adding a smiley as I know my location is in my profile
16. Will you all just stop talking about me ? It IS a jazz and it IS a purple chilli (top marks to you, Sherlock)- you're really creeping me out, people !
17.
thanks for the info on 50s Fenders people - figured that out rather quickly but too late for all yous in the know!
Yes - a copy of a 57 with, if I recall correctly, the pickup as the custom shop models. There's red, sunburst and cream as I recall. They come up on here used fairly often. Very nice indeed to play. See the link musky posted I have the same pickup in my bass and the bass doc seemed to approve when he fitted it all together.
18. Souhthampton ? That's my guess Can I recommend the classic 50s models ? I tried one recently and it was awesome
19. I have had one - they are superb. I didn't change a thing
20. I think that the difference should be that you have to state item you want to acquire, whereas the sale forums just invite trades with sometimes a vague steer towards various desired items Worth a try is my 2p
21.
My P stays in tune for months. I check it before every gig, but sometimes I wonder why I bother.
Mine too - stiff new kluson tuners and a stable jap maple neck.
