1. I just use cheapie coban strings from the bay. Cheap and last ages, not too bright with a nice tone
2. Sure - I use 18 months a reasonable time frame for something to last IF it's a quality item. A trader has to be able to rely on a sale after a certain amount of time has passed If it's goes wrong in six months and you haven't been brutal with it then reject it in writing and be prepared to see them in court if the trader doesn't see the clear writing on the wall
3.
But you can expect an amp that costs several hundred £ to last more than a year & be fit for purpose. By law, this is "upto" 6 years (depending on the item).
Sure but you can't expect it to be faultless for six years - there's a sliding scale of reasonableness If it electrocutes you then that's different
4. Speaking from experience of court, get it all written down as it happens , noting dates and any costs incurred, while it's fresh in your head. You can expect a product to last at least a year and can reject the goods if they go wrong in the first six months . Record the visits on your phone as voice messages if you can Give him a last chance to sort it out then start a court case. You will have notes, he will have no notes The five year liability is more to do with safety, you cannot expect things to last forever
5. my local music shop has a rack of basses, but he tells me he doesnt get much interest in them and so he doesnt invest lots in keeping a large range or keeping (new) Fenders. Seems fair enough for a small business to me. Just makes up bass players more sought after.
6.
The Bangles, who wouldnt have wanted to share a dressing room with Suzannah Hoffs
The others were quite hot too
7.
Erm! always wondered.......what purpose do they serve??
See here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/182008-fender-ashtray-and-neck-pickup-covers-on-a-jazz-bass/page__fromsearch__1
8.
Yeah i can imagine them being a pain to play, don't know i guess I will have to try them out on a jazz with them already attached before I go and take a drill to my bass.
Stick them on with masking tape and see if it works for you. I just found them annoying and ditched them
9. I wouldn't sell her. Period. Children, however .....
10. Sadly I don't have the money for it.
11. Sorry I wasn't clear Mine is newish and yet looks more tired than yours, and I wish I'd asked the bass doc to relic mine. Yours is exactly what I had in mind looks wise when I was telling BD what I wanted.
12.
lol no this time I thinks I'll put my feet up and settle in. I spend a good 50% of the working day over on the 'FretBoard' guitarist forum, but this place seems to be far less up it's own arse than over there.
Probably due to the reduced guitard co-efficient
13. It's like the real version of what I asked the bass doc to build, Grangur has seen the bass doc version at my house; this is what I had in mind when specifying it. But more reliced of course
14. Should have kept Kim Shattuck - and i'm sure she's a good bassist too of course.
15. Well that's made a right mess of my keyboard, and I'm not talking coffee Free bump
16. Sadly they don't collect from my postcode and the Nottingham folks they referred me to were less helpful
17. Slightly off topic, but did anyone else notice that there was a floor mounted autocue with the lyrics during Elton and Gary's duet ? Partner didn't believe me until I paused the tv
18. Just found them - wasn't quoting them yesterday. Thanks for the confirmation
19. Yep last two things I sent via parcelforce looked like they had been machine gunned
20. Most couriers aren't quoting when destination is NI
21. Parcelforce don't insure (well, pay out anyway) if its not in a hard case.
22. Anyone got one to recommend ? Pickup from East Midlands, going to Belfast. Not parcelforce please as they seem to make a hobby of putting holes in things for me
