thanks - those numbers are for an electric ? I read above that acoustics are set higher but since mine has action you can park a bus under, I was wondering whats normal.

if the string is a wider bore, surely the nut will need to be both wider [b]and [/b]deeper ? Or it will sit relatively higher to the old smaller bore string. Sandpaper definitely wont do depth, not with any degree of reliability anyways

Could you give me a clue what yours is at ? Hear what you're saying but I think bridge action is a large part of the problem

I'm not sure duress would really work. He might not enforce his clause, but he has got the right to. Whether it would be worth his while legally is another question

I have a generic acoustic bass. I think its straight as alreluef at 10th using a capo on fret 1 is about right - credit card thickness - action is still suitable for limbo dancing Strings are phosphor bronze 40- 95 Am I right in think the only thing I can do is file down the saddle ? What action is respectable for an acoustic ?

I don't get a lot of practice time due to small children but I read a lot and think my way through it as s substitute for real physical practice. It's slower but you can resolve issues by thinking them through. I've played an open mic night now I have two lessons for you to consider : It's important to remember that you will have good and bad days, and to be able to bounce back from the bad days Practice is more important than flash gear

You can buy a magnetic tin which is better I use it a lot but I helpfully the neck relief section is not near the action section. But that's my only criticism

yes, if you chat with the organiser, they might get someone suitable to give you a chance. I got taken on by a guitard who was very generous with his time to get a song together for the next OM night. He suggested a 12 bar in a key of my choice and encouraged me to play with the arrangement a little, so I made some of the repeat-chord bars walk up and down across two bars rather than repeat the same pattern and changed notes so I was near the starting note of the next chord rather than jump a long way. He liked my ideas. We had a quick run through using an acoustic bass first which was a huge confidence builder. I have to say that my Stingray copy sounded amazing through an Ampeg, and still good even when recorded on an iphone by a friend. Found out last time that said guitard's band has been opening up for acts at the O2 last month. NO pressure there then.

That's what happened on my first time but it left me determined to prepare properly so it doesn't happen again
