1. Last year someone posted a link to youtube of a band whose line-up was 2 Fender (or Squier) Bass VIs and Drums. I can't remember what they were called (i think they were a UK band). If anyone remembers or knows the band it would be much appreciated.
 2.
Fun fact: Jaco owned a fretted jazz with a very similar neck to the Bass Of Doom, which he practiced on a lot. Can't remember where I saw that quoted though.
He also has a Jazz Bass with a Precision neck which he practiced on a lot. I try not to think of Jaco when playing fretless as he was a total one-off.
 3. Last year i picked up a fretless Boomslang Jive Bass for £300. It has an ebanol fingerboard and is a superb bass. I haven't seen a better fretless for the price. http://www.rmiuk.biz/Boomslang.php?tab=0#TabbedPanels1
 4. Andrew, i'm going through a bit of a Zappa phase (this happens to me every couple of years) at the moment. This George Duke clip is so reminiscent of his time with FZ when (as far as i'm concerned) Frank produced some of his best music. http://youtu.be/bN9Vaml0dZE
 5.
I was bidding on something else that was 'mine' at £695 with 4 seconds to go - it went for over £1,300!
It's never 'mine' until that hammer falls. Some of the best bargains i've ever seen at auctions were with a few seconds to go.
 6. Best laugh on here for ages. Didn't read all the posts because i have a life but it did remind my why i don't bother with BC much anymore.
 7.
Me! Only kidding - Never going to happen lol! (Hey -I can dream can't I)
Me neither. Too many hipsters around where i live already let alone actually travelling down there and spending a weekend with them. The very thought of it. PS. Got to say a big thanks to Glastonbury for letting us have a hipster free weekend once a year where i live.
 8.
Bootsy Collins
.......all the hipsters say yah, say yah, say yah
 9.
Why would I want his address?
What was the point of this thread?
 10.
Have. As stated, he joined 31 march this year. No phone number or name signed with eBay. Plus it's not a case of having the contact details, it's a case of getting the idiot to reply. I can escalate the case on the 4th of July. He won't respond in that timespace so I'm going to be taking it to an eBay agent.
The date a member joined ebay is clear for all to see. It has nothing to do with what i said about requesting the sellers contact details. If you request the sellers contact details from ebay they will send you their address and phone number and vice versa that's why i asked if you had actually requested these details and not just emailed them through ebay.
 11.
I thought they had to have a phone number to sell ? I had a problem last year with something I'd bought, the seller wasn't responding to email, so I contacted ebay and they gave me the phone number.
I'm sure they do too but you have to request the sellers contact details via ebay.
 12.
I made a living out of trading in eBay for a while, but when this rule came in that was it for me. At that point it stopped being an auction site and became just another online retail presence. Everything is skewed toward the buyer now. Yet it's the sellers who provide eBay and PayPal with the majority of their profit.
Couldn't agree more. I used to sell a lot on ebay and remember in the good old days when you hadn't received payment for an item you could look at their feedback and often see that they had a number of negative feedbacks for non payment so you knew where you were. Now buyers can do what they want without fear of any negative feedback. I've had far more problems with buyers than i ever have with sellers who to trade successfully have to stick to the rules.
 13.
I also learned that positive feedback has NO bearing on any case. Which is bloody ridiculous in my view.
Sellers used to be allowed to leave negative feedback. When this was withdrawn some years ago so only the buyer could leave negative feedback it made the whole feedback system a farce and not worth even bothering with.
 14.
Tried contacting him. Through email and messages. He has no phone number signed to his account
But have you actually requested the sellers contact details from ebay?
 15. 8 posts on a recent thread on a new film about Jaco Pastorius and 44 posts in this thread is a good reason i don't spend anywhere near as much time on here as i used to. Signing out now.
 16. General Discussion If its bass or music related and doesn't fit one of the other more specific forums, then put it here. Really?
 17.
Except that the good thing about OT discussions on BC is that the main common factor here is an interest in bass, which means there is a wide variety of views about other subjects, which makes most of the OT discussions more interesting. IMO, obviously.
Nearly all of the OT threads i've ever read have no mention of bass at all. If they did they wouldn't be OT would they?
 18.
Anyway, what's the point of a discussion where everyone has the same view? What would anyone learn from that?
I keep well away from OT threads on BC now and probably the only thing i've learnt is that i'll never ask a bass player about anything other than their bass guitar and equipment.
 19.
Anyone hear Brian Matthew play that really early version of Fountain of Love (apparently predating the one on Ruben & the Jets) yesterday on Sounds of the 60's?
There is an early version of Fountain Of Love on the 'Paul Buff Presents Highlights From The Pal And Original Sound Studio Archives' 5-CD Box Set. That version has Ray Collins (vocals), Paul Buff (fuzz bass, organ), Frank Zappa (drums, guitar, backing vocals) and was recorded in March 1963. There's also three early versions of Love Of My Life plus Anyway The Wind Blows with Frank Zappa (guitar, drums), Ray Collins (lead vocals), Paul Buff (bass, percussion) and a version of Deserie by Ray Collins & Paul Buff all recorded in 1963. The box set has some great stuff on it and is essential listening for anyone interested in pre-Mothers Zappa.
 20.
I never liked them at the time but strangely now I do. They kind of sneaked into acceptance via the music of Albert Lee, who played with them in the 60s as Head, Hands & Feet.
Only Chas (on bass) was in Heads, Hands & Feet. They both played with Albert Lee in Black Claw.
 21. I've always had excellent service from GAK and with free postage on everything i've bought. That's a winner in my book!
 22. I'm really looking forward to the film. From what i remember there was no great fanfare when Jaco appeared on Ira Sullivan's LP (he was even listed as 'Joco' on the sleeve) in 1975 and then on Pat Metheny's 'Bright Size Life' the same year. Neither album sold many copies and both got the similar review of 3 out of 5 stars which was how albums were reviewed back then. I think that they initially sold about one thousand copies of BSL. No one raved about the Metheny album or Jaco's playing from what i can remember and although he'd been heard by a lot more people the previous year on Little Beaver's 'I Can Dig It Baby' we didn't know it was him at the time! Of course we all know that his fame really took of with Weather Report but even when he appeared with his Word Of Mouth Band at Hammersmith in 1982(?) you could probably have bought a ticket on the night. It was a much different world back then. Jaco seems more popular now than ever. I never tire of Jaco's playing and look forward to watching the film.
 23. I much prefer some of that sellers other items.............. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LEWTHWAITEmusic/BEACHCOMB-driftwood-/_i.html?_fsub=4620941010&_sid=161149840&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
 24.
Indeed, four of them, turned clockwise a few turns!
