1. There's only room in a man's life for so many Jazz basses - and I have a few. Consequently, I'd like to move this one on. The body of this bass was bought as part of a complete Jazz bass, that I believe dates from 1974, judging from the logo, screw holes, neck stamp etc. Unfortunately it had been well buggered about - badly defretted and routed for EMG soapbars. I've used the neck for a more traditional project and put the rest together with a neck I bought on here - so here's the deal . . . 1974 body - refinished in Nitro white - routed for EMG's - battery compartment routed beneath the scratchplate - big enough for 2 PP3's - it's wired 18 volts. There are a couple of dinks in the paint - but nothing major. Allparts (Licensed by Fender) block and bound neck with Rosewood fretboard. EMG soapbars - DC in the neck position, TW in the bridge position with a push pull volume control for coil tap. Gotoh 201 bridge. The machine heads came with the neck - branded 'Fender' but not sure of their origin - look the part and work fine. The bass is resonant with no obvious dead spots - the bathroom scales show it as around 8 lb - but obviously that's not going to be dreadfully accurate. So on to the pics: As for a price - I've a fair idea what I could get for the bits if I were to split it, but it would obviously be easier for me to sell it as a whole - so so I'm looking for £450 collected from Milton Keynes including a hard case. Would possibly be interested in a trade but would prefer a straight sale. I would prefer this bass was collected - being a 'put together' bass I'd sooner a buyer try it and be sure they're happy with it before it's sold. I could post it but this would be dependant on being able to resource a bass sized box. I could also meet a potential buyer at London Midland stations between Euston and Birmingham. Let me know what you reckon guys!
2. Best bet would probably be to buy a whole new 70's style bridge from Bass Parts Resource and pull out the bits you need!
3. Bought a Trace AH200 from Stevie. Amp was in excellent condition - better than described - and was posted - well packed as soon as the cheque cleared. A nice touch - he threw in some nice old Trace catalogues and a mains lead. Kept me well informed throughout - nice one dude!!
4. I've got a micro cube and it's fine to practice with. Obviously not earth shattering but great fun - can do batteries as well for the odd busk/quiet session.
5. Try some flats. Search on here for some info on different makes.
6.
Hi Col, This is really interesting stuff, I might have to come to one of your gigs to have a listen! Do you gig around Herts at all? Cheers, James
Nothing coming up James but plenty in Bucks - my gig list on my website is down at the moment but if you want me to send you a list, pm me. Regards Col
7.
Is the Nemesis 15" as loud as the 4x10"? I'll be really surprised if it is! Alex
. . . . ermm maybe I should've been a little more explicit. I wouldn't know how to measure each cabs loudness - but - I play in rock bands usually using a Trace AH 250. Seldom turn up more than 3 with either cab. I'm having loads of trouble dialling in a beefy sound with the 4x10, but the 1x15 does it for me every time - is it louder? - not too sure - gonna continue to work with the 4x10 though. Just to mention - the 4x10 is the 'RS' version where the 1x15 is the older version.# Col
8. Have you thought about one of the Nemesis 1 x 15? I've got the 1 x 15 and the 4 x 10 and I reckon the 15 trumps the 4x10 hands down! Very manageable also.
9. I regularly use a Behringer feedback killer in line with our two monitors - and we hardly ever have feedback problems. I also use a graphic inline - I play piped music through it and try to eq out anything that sonds unnatural, and routinely cut the top and bottom couple of bands.
10. Don't wanna state the obvious - but you've noticed it doesn't come with a body?!
11. Looks very similar to my 77. I'll see if I have some pics!
12. I'm glad someones posted this. Andy Viccars (well respected local luthier and bass player) always reckons you should roll the volume on the pickup back a bit to find it's sweet spot. I usually have mine full on but do roll it back occasionally for quieter passages - but I'm interested - DOES volume level affect the tone?
13. Or try a tiny dab of loctite on the saddle screw threads.
14. I'll have it please mate - I'll PM you about the details. Cheers Col
15. Are you willing to post?
16. I seem to remember reading that Sting's was Alder. Mine is ash - I love it and have no problem with the stinglay - but why make it of a different wood from the original - although I gotta say I lurve ash basses!
17. Just as well I don't live in Scotland - looks like a bargain - that tort plate looks great on the black!
18. I had an MM3 5 string - it was lovely and I regret letting it go!
19. Love the Ash P Nick - bet it sounds the dogs - thought you'd never part with the Ric but I'm still loving the Custom Shop Jazz - one of my favourites!!
20. Was kidding
21. Beedster needs one of these - hey Chris - if you drove up to Lancaster to collect it - maybe you could drop the Ibanez off on the way ha ha!
22. Shame ur not after a 4 string Musicman - got a lovely Sterling!
23. Lovely close grain on this one - nice!!
24. She's a bootifull beeeaatch!
25. I've got a Custom Shop 64 closet classic in those colours and it's just awesome. I was playing in a Floyd tribute at the time I got it so bought a set of EMG's to go on it to be like Guys (sad I know!) but they wouldn't slot in without me widening the routs - so I've left it with the originals in. I've got a few really nice basses but this one is definately one of my best!
