1. i'll concede he makes some very good points.
 2.
aaaah.. so that's where I've been going wrong, is it? If you have a few minutes and haven't seen the video I'm talking about, have a look and see if you think the guy is making any reasonable points.
I'll do that, but until I do, I stand by my mantelpiece with a can of strong cider and proclaim that I could bandsaw my way through 12 layers of bubble wrap in 14 seconds but it wouldn't mean that my 1824 Stack Knob Aerodyne wouldn't had been perfectly fine flying RyanAir to North Korea.
 3.
About this time last year I watched the video on the Hiscox site where the bloke takes a bandsaw to 'other' cases and explains why they're not up to scratch, then went and got the Fender/SKB cases that came with my American Standard 4 and 5 from under the bed and spent 5 minutes pulling the fabric covered polystyrene inserts out to reveal the shallow metal edge with the locks and other hardware riveted into the plastic, just like he described. My immediate reaction was to put them back how i found them, take them to the local shop and trade both in for one Hiscox STD-EBS, straight swap. I've been really happy with my case for the last year and it's actually made me use a hard case where before I used gig bags, so if I've bought into some clever marketing then hey, won't be the first or last time and on balance I'm better off than I was. But really, are the SKB cases as 'superb' as you guys are saying? I certainly wouldn't have fancied standing even one guy, let alone 4 or 5, on the SKB with my bass in it!
Yeah most airlines will bandsaw your case unless you ask for the special round sticker that has the bandsaw with the red border and line through it. It looks just like the Ghostbusters sicker, but with a bandsaw replacing the ghost. I always ask for three of them for a bass case, two for a guitar case.
 4.
Unless Fender have changed the spec at the factory without telling anybody , that bass should come with a superb rectangular ABS SKB case.like this: That bass is still listed on the Fender website as including that case .If this bass hasn't come with that, find out why and demand an explanation and a replacement. .
They are superb. Light as a feather and incredibly protective. Superb design.
 5.
We're about to release this as a double heavyweight album on the Plane Groovy label; the audio is stunning and it's an amazingly lively recording, with absolutely minimal compression - an audiophile dream. It's a truly worthwhile upgrade/revisiting of the old Necromandus songs which, if you've heard them, are let down by that early '70's muddy production.
Very nice to meet you last night, Chris. It was a top night! I'll give you a shout about that deck.
 6.
Not always the case the capo in effect lowers action relative to nut if there is not enough relief/clearance in neck it will buzz/rattle usally when fretting notes around 5th position ( but yes make sure capo is doing its job as should be as well)
Of course it does, just like doing the same thing with your fingers. There's no mechanical difference doing it with a capo, it either buzzes or it doesn't, the relief is either correct or incorrect. But applying the capo incorrectly can make it buzz.
 7.
Hello all - I bought a brand new 2013 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass from an authorised dealer and it has come with a non-SKB case. Does anybody know if that is right?
I got one with my Deluxe Strat, but not sure about Standards. I assumed a SKB was standard issue with Standards though. I'm sure it was a few years ago. Have the shop f***ed you over?
 8.
Been lucky enough to play with a few name drummers and 1 or 2 were/are very special. One of the best things about that is that you get a take on 'real' talent..IMO and what it takes to get to the top. So, if these guys are any indication of the talent that you need to have, then that would make my list massive...
+1
 9. Stewart Copeland Tony Allen Tim 'Herb' Alexander There are many more. The drummers I already play with are ace and I get so much pleasure from playing with them.
 10. "you don't usually boost eq, you usually cut it" That is bang on, I learned that by accident a couple of years ago. Sounds like a fantastic amp with totally useful features, I'm excited by it, if I used amps I'd want it.
 11. Top pics Silvia! You all look wicked! Love the Vee!
 12. What a great idea!
 13.
Sorry for double posting but just released a new one, can you give any feedback to the vibe of this song? Were just trying something different with it and tried to be more groove/ambiance orientated. https://soundcloud.c...nd/come-and-see
Much better! That has vibe! In the slow sections I found the bass and drums a little stiff and not mixed loud enough, try to relax when you're recording. I think the bass line could be much simpler, and for that song I would play with the drums and vocals more, rather than with the guitarist. Look for the key timing accents that give the song and feel its personality, and play with those perhaps. Look at the harmony opportunities too, there are parts of that song where you could add one note below the chord and really bring out the vocal melody - of course that's a matter of taste but the singer might love it if you really bring out a vocal note or vocal line occasionally with a low harmony note, but do it carefully and subtly if you fancy trying it, do it from emotion rather than theory, see where your mind takes you. The ska section is wonderful, you sound like you're really enjoying it, the whole band does. Love the singer's occasional tremolo in the slow parts, very emotive. The mix needs to be warmer for me. And the drums and bass should come up in the mix a little. It's a real improvement on the previous ones your posted, and I would be very proud considering you were very nervous and it's a new band.
 14. Don't know the bloke, but the socks are c. 2007 M&S Cool & Fresh with Stretch
 15. From our gig at The Lexington yesterday 17 December 2013, we supported the really incredible Emily Wells. Thanks so much to CamdenRob for coming, buy you a beer next time man!
 16. Any amount of foam coming out a Barefaced cab pales in comparison to that which seems to exit certain members' mouths on a daily f***ing basis. It all seems very personal.
 17.
Yeah I noticed all the additional content, complicated stuff... The sound out front could have been a bit clearer to be honest. The jazz sounded good and tight and the vocals came through OK, everything else got a bit lost... lots of head nodding and the occasional dance move around going on in the crowd though We'll definitely be at the next one, you guys are excellent live.
That's very kind of you to say, and very gratifying to hear. Thanks man! Oh yeah, I saw a fella at the front dancing, he seemed in a trance
 18.
We were indeed there no worries about not catching up, next time maybe, you guys looked pretty manic after your set and we thought we'd leave you to it. Great turn out, have you played there before? That was a decent crowd for a bill of originals bands on a Tuesday night. A lot of it was for you guys as well, seemed to thin out a bit after you'd finished. Liked the new tune as well, partly as you've got a more prominent part in it! Hopefully make the Hoxton one Rob
Thanks Rob, it's a shame I didn't get a chance to buy you a beer, or one of those bourbons! Yes, it was a great crowd, and we've not played there before, it's hard to get a gig there apparently and we only got it because the promoter has worked with us before, strings were pulled Glad you like the new tune! It's a bit of a new direction lately, we are using some backing tracks for extra keys and loops. Pretty funny the tracks were accidentally on shuffle on the iPad, hence the comedy before we played that number So glad you made it, Rob. But do say hello next time! Thanks again. Nx
 19.
What time are you guys on tonight mate?
Hello Rob, I don't know if you made it tonight but if you did I'm very sorry I missed you mate.
 20.
It does have a truss rod and it's never had the bridge shaved down. Thanks for all your input guys, think I'm going to throw a few quid at a decent capo before I mess with the truss rod cos' the guitar is great normally.
Yes, try a decent capo made for a classical. I assume you get no buzz when you fret those strings? If so it will be the capo not applying enough pressure. Make sure the capo is close to the fret but not so tight it forces the strings out of tune. If I were you I'd probably get a Shubb classical .. I use a cejilla but they can be a little tricky until you get used to fitting it, they are really great though ..
 21. Tomorrow night. And it's going to be a good one judging by tonight's rehearsal
 22.
sounds like something from Dr Who meats Ken Dodd. It's not something I've ever thought about. I'm not that anal with my sound, I know what I like and it's quite easily achieved but I like the idea of the cab being a little better protected, especially when I'm running the amp hard.
A top reason to use one is so your bandwidth is not eaten up with useless frequencies. The FoH should like you for that, and you should get a better tone through the PA.
 23.
None of these comments strike you as being slightly, er... patronising? I am a big strong guy, and I choose to use lightweight cabs. So maybe I am taking your advise after all!
MM20 is right in a sense that you can f*** your back picking up your car keys with bad technique. Lighter weight will help a lot, but you should avoid twisting and stretching, and bending your lower back. Many painful and debilitating back injuries happen after a lot of damage has already been sustained by poor posture and poor manual handling technique. But there's no pain until it's too late. And remember that manual handling is not just lifting stuff, it's lowering too, and pushing and pulling, carrying and supporting. I don't use cabs (or heads for that matter), but the BF ones I've had a crack on looked and sounded great, and when I'm in the market for a cab one day, it will almost certainly be a Barefaced, partnered with a decent small power amp. I find it a bit dispiriting that Alex is getting spat on by some people for what seem like trivial reasons. I'd feel very sad in his place, he's a nice guy.
