You know what Paul, to engage with the Basschat membership you need your music to have a video. It must feature a buff chick and a kitteh. Otherwise no-one will listen.

Paul and Mike, that is WICKID! I love it, it's a great number. Love the trumpet. Donnie's ace - great lyrics, Mike, your bass has real personality, it sounds great man! Paul you are really blossoming as a producer. Lovely stuff, can't wait for the ep chaps!

I can burn that for you and I'll send the The Mother Hips album on to you as well if you like. You will not be disappointed!
Ahh lovely, which gig? the '84 stuff? I have Does Humour Belong in Music though. Shame Scott's not on the Mother Hips album, but I'll buy it mate, thanks for the offer though, really very kind of you mate! Thank you! -
Man, I lost count long ago of how many times I've watched that gig from The Pier. Brilliant stuff. Love Thunes to bits. The Mother Hips album is awesome too. I recently joined the zappateers and managed to get pretty much all of the live stuff available from the '84 tour. Hours of listening pleasure.
I love The Pier gig, it's marvellous. I love the clips on Baby Snakes too. I really must get the Mother Hips album. I'll check out the Zappateers, sounds interesting -

Why doesn't the quote function work for me? *ponders*
Hit the quote button and it should load the quote in the text entry window.
Sorry can't fit in 10 words but here it is: I am a long time Elixir user (10+ years). For a pub-club-theatre gigging bass player I might say there isn't any other brand that comes even close in terms of durability (Never heard of the Cleartones posted above but I'm just about to order and try them). I do 3-6 gigs per week and if I play any other strings, including the coated DR's, they get very dark and muddy after only 3-4 gigs (my hands sweat a lot while I'm playing). Elixirs last and last and last... Never had the coating flaking to me, apart from when I played them for a year + on my main bass (in the old days). However I must agree that there's a trade off and it's big especially if you are a tone freak (I am in a way). They do sound dull and some kinda dead compare to regular strings. So if you are more of a recording/stadium/festival touring bass player I wouldn't recommend. I could never get the same tone with Elixir that I get from ErnieBalls on my StingRay5. In fact any other decent set of strings has more clarity, much more growl and definition. For about 3 gigs that is. So whenever I have an important studio session or higher profile gig, I put on a set of Ernies. Rest of the time - Elixirs. Hope that helps. Steff
How did you get on with the Cleartone EMPs man?
I'm playing at the Hackney Empire in a musical between 30th Jan and 1st Feb but i will be down all week from the 25th for rehearsals. the band and i will be looking for things to do at night whilst down there so just wondered if any of you were gigging. I may be in Manchester on 26th and 27th for a gig but will def be there 25th, 28th,29th. And if any of you are playing after 10pm on 30th, 31st we will try to get to some.
If you want to come down a day earlier I'm playing with Kit at The Finsbury on the 24th, not far from Camden mate, you know about the 31st already
I don't know how important your time is, or how often you change strings, but I find the Hipshot through-bridge stringing to be very fast and convenient because you don't have to thread the string through anything, just lay it into the slot.
Plus 1
-
If Fender told me that the through body stringing option was only added so you could replace a broken string very quickly without the need to cut it to length, I'd probably believe em.
-
All you can do is try it. This subject has never really been resolved to my knowledge. Can you afford to f*** up a set of strings trying it is the only useful question
Of course. It's a fundamental design flaw that such things should be necessary to experience a playable action on an instrument. It perplexes me, that instruments of this apparent value are so compromised. A shim lessens the structural integrity of the neck to body join and affects the transfer of vibration (thus resonance) through the instument, fact. You might as well make a bass from plywood if bodge-jobs like shims are built into basses.
I wouldn't worry about the shim. My 1983 USA Jazz has a little walnut side shim which looks original and it is to correct a poorly routed neck socket, and it also has the Fender neck pitch adjuster which I have had to use to correct the pitch. The bass sounds and plays like a beast. Loads of Fenders have shims, it's an indication of poor neck routing but it's not anything to worry about. The issue is the truss rod, take it to a good luthier.

I like it a lot man! It's really good. I love the tune, the performances are lovely, a great feel overall like you are all totally comfortable with the material and had a very happy time recording it. There are some lovely instrumental moments, the guitars are really nicely arranged. Yer man's got a very nice voice, I'd like to have heard some higher harmony type notes in the last chorus to give it a lift, to take the lyric somewhere before the end, but that's nitpicking. Good bass tone, drums and bass sound like a great unit, very nice supportive phrasing, spot on! The whole package feels familiar but with real personality and enough individuality to stand up to scrutiny from them critics. Entirely professional mate. There must be a decent market out there for this. Got any videos? I wonder what you lot look like

Is there such a thing as the ultimate bass? I've play a good number and most of them were fine for what I needed and I adapted to each one's characteristics, I still sounded and played like me. Look and feel are my main requirements. The more I play the less important the bass becomes, and vice versa. But of course, that's just me
just been setting up my MIA P which I'd noticed was getting fret buzz higher up the neck with relief of 8 thou ( my feeler gauge is imperial), so I starting tightening the truss rod, I've stopped the fret buzz with a string height of 2mm at the 12 fret ( and I play pretty hard with a 1mm pick) but I've now got next to no neck relief, is there anything to worry about?
Same here, almost no relief, and my USA Jazz plays beautifully. I don't mind a little fret buzz though as for me it adds to the character and smoothness of of the sound.
Quite a lot (in fact, perhaps most...) of 'objectionable' content gets 'pulled' in time, before most stumble across it. There's always some that get through, or threads that escalate rather quickly, that's why the button is available for all to use, and you're all encouraged to do so, if the contents warrant it. The rarity of needing to do so underlines both the 'backstage' activities of the mods and the need to be reminded from time to time that it is, indeed, for all of us to help keep up the high standards achieved here. The achievement is a group effort; all are involved and to be thanked. Long may it continue to be so...
Are people really this bad that so much content needs to be pulled so quickly? I know there are arguments but the wisdom of crowds normally sorts it if it's given a chance, there are sometimes a few casualties, but after a sulk or a cry they usually come back and all is well. I very rarely see any bullying or death threats or serious ill will, does that happen? Obviously there is much more to BC than meets the eye.

I'd love to know what people complain about, because I've hardly ever seen anything that's worth hitting that button other than scammers, and the occasional bullethead. Maybe those who complain aren't confident enough to post their thoughts and can only complain privately, in which case what's that as a contribution to the debate? Not a lot. Is it the silent majority? Am I being judgemental and ignorant of what really goes on behind the BC curtains? Probably. The mods and admins do an amazing job here, no doubt of that.
