Wonderful stuff Andy! Superbly executed.

What sort of picture is that?! I can't write an edgy song about carp fishing!!

You have great technique and knowledge, that is clear, but you need to calm down a bit man! Bilbo is right. Build it, softly, gently, don't rape me, make love to me. Other than that, formidable!
I don't think it matters. If they have something interesting to say, then I'll check out their music. It rather be finding out about new players. I already know plenty about the few that admire.
Absolutely. Loved a Hischke interview I read recently somewhere.

Wonderful player. Very sad mental health disorder. Arrogant as f***. Prone to uncontrolled displays of virtuosity. Bores me to tears. And more so do all those who try to copy him. But he is a legend.
+1 Rubbish, need MORE bass
Well said!
I think you should check out the composition competition ;-)
What's that mate?
That's a bit good Nige ended much too soon was just getting absorbed! Edit: 2nd listen - the start reminded me of Dave Gilmour's On A Island
Thanks mate. I know it's too short, I will probably write a longer arrangement for it at some point soon. I've not heard OAI, so that's interesting. I do like Gilmour though so maybe some influence is coming through. Glad you like what's there though!
There's your problem when you mix you can't be a bassist at the same time (sounds silly but it's bloody difficult to do)
I know kick is too loud too.
I really like that dude, bit sad it ended so soon. Bass seems a bit (just a tad) too loud in the mix on these monitors but loving the tune... more please!
It was mixed by a bassist Glad you like it! I will do more, I got a lot of confidence doing that in terms of the tracking/editing/mixing process - I'm not too familiar with the DAW way of working yet, but I did this from scratch in less than 3 hours which ain't too bad for me. I sort of wrote it all on the fly but the twinkly guitar arpeggio is something I wrote a few years ago and did nowt with, I started with that to a click. I enjoyed doing it and I will do more and longer pieces. Next little project is to re-arrange and re-record a Francis Dunnery cover version I did which I've just got Kit's vocals for. I want to reharmonise them with different chords and structures. It is going on an album of Dunnery covers which Francis has sanctioned and will be used for his children's charity, looking forward to doing it when I get a chance. Thanks again mate.
You will not pay more for a German made model, you can pick up mint condition Warwicks for little more than £500. I know from experience as I sold two Corvettes recently, one a 2010 natural ash for £550, and a 2007 bubinga for £500, both in showroom condition. The second-hand market is the route to take IMO.
Bo0sty, do this.

It's an amazing community, you are abolutely right. I have had the most incredible help and support on here, and some great fun arguments too

Does the slap sound hide the fact you can't play it right ?
I'm all for progress and music. Progress is good and comes with practice and should be everybody's goal. Look how far Flea took it, but there's only a few who slap like him and sound as good. I think he actually said that he abandoned the aggressive slap style because everybody jumped on after him. Maybe I am just cynical. To explain where this came from. I was led to write this after listening to some Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee, and Steve Harris from the 80s recently and it's sweet to hear compared to the stuff on the television music channels that my son watches. I am not wanting to be criticising modern sounds because one mans symphony is another mans earache and thats your right as a musician, just that the bass is sometimes drowned too regularly in a wall of distorted drop D guitar chunk, bump and grind. It's each to their own I suppose.
You miserable elitist old sod -
I think you'll find that that has absolutely nothing to do with the bass and everything to do with your opinions of the players.
Yeah I just pointed that out to him but he denies it I'm not he knows what he wants to know. Seems to me that Joe wants some confirmation that Warwick players are daft c***s I don't know what's on topic or off topic in this thread
I am aware of all of this. You seem to be missing the point, or perhaps I'm not being as clear as I should be. I know that just about any bass can produce just about any sound for just about any application. I have no prejudice against Warwick players. This is exactly my approach to playing. Anyway, we're wondering off topic here. I see you're a Warwick owner, do you find any nuances in the sound?
No. It's just a beautifully made, great looking, great playing active bass.
I remember a friend of mine telling me that he once spoke to a local bassist about his Corvette $$ and he took him through all these different EQ settings like, "If you want a Precision sound - do this, this makes it sound like a Rickenbacker" etc etc. I'm trying to find what signature characteristics, if any, make a Warwick instantly recognisable. From my experience, the Warwick sound is usually bad slapping and pointless fretw**kery!
Almost any bass can sound like almost any bass. Warwicks are played in most genres, and most of any bass tone comes from the player's mind and fingers. You seem to be talking about the players more than the bass. Maybe your question should be 'What is the sound of a Warwick player'. If you have some sort of prejudice regarding what you think is the sound of Warwick players, do more research on YouTube. FWIW, I don't think you are the slightest bit interested in what a Warwick sounds like. Now go and find me a bass you think has 'instantly recognisable' tone, and I'll point you in the direction of a good psychiatrist.

That's really good! You have good timing, and you look relaxed and confident. Your teacher's right, you'll get things like the string damping, dynamics and articulation over time. It should not be underestimated how much extra pressure is put on you from filming yourself, you should be very proud of yourself for this vid, only four months of playing and with all of life's other demands, you're at this stage already.

Now this is very funky, superb playing and great tone. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185182-my-take-on-some-skunk-funk-by-brecker-brothers/

f***ing extraordinary! Superb mate, love all the little funky ghosts, you have a very good tone too. If I were you, I'd post this in the 'Show Us Your Playing Vids' thread in General Discussion. Edit: I've done it for you. Top work man.
