1.
In which case any band that has released a single in the weeks leading up to Xmas is exacxtly like the x-factor.
Really?
 2. It is f***ing vile. What an abysmal and sick-making disproportionate travesty. Like having a monster penis with tiny little bollocks.
 3.
X-factor works by giving you a different angle each week on the contestants abilities and keeping it fresh. I can't see where it says that each band will record a new track each week and the judges will give feedback on the song so the artist can go away and record a better track the next week.
You are talking about the format, not the objective.
 4.
It's not on telly at 7pm on a Friday either but the principle behind it is exactly the same...
5.
If the song is already recorded then what's the point of recording the song as part of the prize?
Money! Them crusading slags will own the winner.
 6. This is from our Transglobal Underground London Zulu gig at Passing Clouds in Dalston a couple of weeks ago. It's a bit hesitant at the start as we were rather distracted by my bass subs rattling one of the PA flyers, got it pretty much sorted quickly though. It was a great night, really lovely crowd too. 7.
Hmmm. Sounds a bit like X-Factor, just on a much smaller scale.
They won't like that! 8.
I saw this last night and struggled to see how it was new, different and hadn't been done before. In the end I said nothing. There's far too much content on that site to wade through. What happened to MySpace?
What will the winning band get? "The band that claims top spot will be signed up to our record label. We will then record their track, film their music video and release their single into the UK charts. We have our sights firmly set on getting one of these bands to the 2012 Christmas number 1 spot." 9.
Haha fair enough. Cheers for checking it out, all the same.
Sorry mate, I was probably a bit erm, vibrant, with my thoughts last night Nevertheless, I stand by my feelings about the 'crusade' and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a cynical publicity stunt for a web design or marketing company or summat. Whatever, whoever is behind it doesn't know much about music and audiences, that's for sure.
 10. I just listened to 13 songs from 13 bands from all genres on that website. Aside from a band called Lightfire, none has any commercial potential as far as I can see, and most have very little musical merit other than they can sing and play and write a copy song. Most are just piss poor copies of successful acts. I would rather hear the new Chris Brown album.
 11.
Say what you think Nige, please. Don't beat around the bush!
"As with all internet driven campaigns, the power is well and truly in YOUR hands. If you agree with our crusade and message then gather your pitchforks and join us! In order for this campaign to be successful we are asking for you all to create any viral images, videos or blog posts supporting the crusade. Then let us know and we will create a gallery on the site for all of the entries plus our personal favourite will win their choice of: - iPod touch pre-loaded with all of the Band Crusade tracks - A pair of Dr Dre beats headphones - FLIP Video Ultra HD III We need you to spread the word of band crusade around all of your social media networks and also follow us on facebook, twitter and youtube. Band Crusade is a unique project to try and get real band music back into the UK charts. Fed up of being spoonfed acts from glorified karaoke contests such as X-Factor and The Voice we set out on our crusade to find 100 raw, talented and undiscovered UK acts that we feel deserve a shot of being Christmas number one 2012. We want to give the UK public a wider choice of alternative music and give YOU the chance to try and change the face of the UK music chart. We feel that the timing for such a crusade couldn’t be better. There has been a lot said in the press recently regarding the current state of the music charts and how people are really getting sick of the manufactured pop format. This resistance is being shown in the fact that The Voice UK had to pull its national tour and furthurmore, a few years ago you all raised your pitchforks for the popular Rage Against The Machine campaign. What we want to do is reward all the hard working, dedicated and raw talented bands around the country. The UK has been home to some of the greatest bands in the history of music and we want to restore that pride." What a load of old c***.
 12. I had a gander. It looks like pretentious bollocks to me, with a side order of unsophisticated, pompous self-serving arse. But good luck with it and all that.
 13.
As long as you've had practice at unzipping the bag you should be OK to start.
I too was thinking pre-gig nerves might be a problem for him.
 14.
But you can roll it in glitter
15.
I'm still on duty at the sh7t farm, so not going to be able to make this. V sorry.. Another time I hope.
No worries mate, sorry you're stuck out in the fields with the anti-immigration lobby of the north of Engerlund. Take care, Nx
 16. I'm also a guitarist who upgraded to bass about 15 years ago, I still gig both though. Since prolonged exposure to low frequencies can upset the digestive system somewhat, it is not unusual for guitarists new to the world of bass to find themselves defecating. If it carries on for more than a few weeks, try Pepto Bismol.
 17. What a superb interview! Rich, you should be very proud of that mate. Thank you.
 18.
Great bands (or solo artists) are great whatever they look like or whatever clothes they wear.
Any artists in mind?
 19.
I'll get a video if you like? I could compile a best(worst) bits compilation. I'm practicing little and often just now, trying to keep the blisters at bay. The good news is that a song has been cut from the set list and that i have more or less nailed one tune ... Just 12 more to go and only 4 days to do it in. Simples. I've arranged a lesson midweek too. I'll see what my teacher says to it then. He says to just practice until we see each other. Back to the woodshed.
Good luck Jonah
 20.
See all the posts on here from people who think that something should be sold as 'ex-demo' because it's got a fingerprint on it.
Fair comment.
 21.
What seems to be coming through here is that some people enjoy a visual element to a live performance, and that others don't. So why would anyone want to alienate part of their audience? It was mentioned that the discussion was supposed to be about dressing up to the nines, and that plenty of artists don't do that. But image needn't be about dressing up - plenty of successful artists don't. Image is about presenting a consistent and consonant face however. Folk, for instance, almost never involves dressing up and to do so would actually be a turn off for many. For many folk is about keeping it real and being an authentic unmediated representation of creative expression (and hence of life). But the image is there nonetheless. You can break the rules as much as you like, but if you're trying to persuade an audience that you're an authentic roots band you might face an uphill struggle if you go out wearing spandex catsuits.
And folk sold little, except for a few lauded artists. Then 'nu-folk' came along, played by frail looking boys with A Levels and sea-dog facial accoutrement, moths escaping jumpers with more lines than their songs, winsome lasses with dandelions sprouting from lips tinted rouge with handpicked raspberry stains, straw in their hair from imagined summery hay-barn ruttery, lilting voices and entry-level Taylors enticing the moths from your wallets with stories about living in caves in west London ...
 22.
I think it is worth mentioning again, that image depends on the type of music and the type of gig. Some people seem to be under the illusion that ALL music needs a visual stimulant.
We're not talking orchestral or jazz are we? I thought this was about contemporary popular music.
 23.
Well thank you kind sir !!
It's also possible to survive having a hot poker stuck up yer arse
 24.
And you think dressing up will fix that?
Can you imagine Gaga without the personality, the show and the image? Popular music is much more than just the music. You may find many of the popular bands you like had to do something beyond the music in their early years to connect with the audience. From cover art, clothes, stage show, sloganeering lyrics, etc. You have to do SOMETHING to get the audience on your side, to get them to pay attention long enough that the music starts to sink in.
 25.
All I am simply saying is that it is possible to enjoy live music, without the aid of visual stimulants.
Of course it is.
