1. Reaper is awesome.
 2. I've had a couple of slightly poor experiences on the bay out of 318 transactions. I have no problem with it.
 3.
I've seen your band on youtube you're sh*t hot! I don't think you have to worry about being at the cheesy end of the spectrum.
I've seen Pete's band live twice, at the Jazz Cafe in London. Believe me, they are ace, and also have loads of personality.
 4. New stuff? I don't. Old stuff? I do. Improvised stuff? I do and I don't.
 5. Well what did we get? Edit: 53 - well over 1 a minute. Not bad, should have said midnight
 6. 15 minutes to go, I'm starting a book
 7. Really well played mate! Excellent! My only titchy comment would be that I found your timing slightly urgent if that makes sense, I felt a little breathless listening. Otherwise, you have skill, tone and taste, sir!
 8.
Damn you!
Damn musicians
 9. I bet this gets 100 hits before 11pm tonight
 10.
Reaper is a fantastic and cheap sequencer that will support nearly everythin plug in wise. Might be worth a look as it will only cost you 35 quid ish
Reaper is wonderful, and easily competes with Logic. It works on Mac or PC but was designed with the PC in mind. It's very easy to use too. It is also a very light download, a few meg.
 11.
I'll probably be using mostly reason as I've been a keyboard player for a lot longer than I've been a bass player. I have to admit I went for a more "serene" option as my own comfort zone is metal and didn't want to seem biased PS. The photo isn't mine, I knicked it from DeviantArt
Yeah, it's a bit chavivaldi that photo Does anyone actually write 'serene' music other than Richard Clayderman? Does each month's winner get to choose the theme for the next month, like in the photography competition? I hope so. Thanks Charic, if I can find the time, I'll do something.
 12.
Me neither! Love the idea of a monthly composition compo; I'm just not sure about using photography as a means of 'inspiration'. Although I suppose it's early days and future photos might be a little less serene (it is a nice photo, btw). I'll be listening intently to the entries, although doubt I'll submit anything myself. My own music is 99% electronic (i.e. bass synths, not guitars) so it probably wouldn't fit so well with the 'spirit' of the competition - this being primarily a forum for bass of the stringed variety, after all Competitions like this are very common on electronic music sites, so it's a great idea to introduce something similar here. Could perhaps even spice it up in future by arranging a few prizes donated by sponsors - ? Just an idea. Looking forward to hearing what folks come up with!
This is about composition though and to my mind if it doesn't need bass there's no need to put it in. So go for it!
 13.
Chandler's (Kew) and Charlie Chandler's (Shepperton) are different shops. I think they split over musical differences? I had a so-so set up at Chandler's in Kew a few years ago so avoided them for a bit. I gave them another try A couple of years ago and they did a great job. I've used them since. The trick is to ask for Andrew. Very nice bloke and he prefers working on basses.
Ah, it was Kew. Thanks for that clarification mate.
 14.
I've had a setup at Charlie Chandlers and although they were friendly and the setup was good, it took a while, 4 days I think. This is of course no fault of their own, you can tell by the amount of guitars in for repair, that their services are in demand. However, Bass Gallery have before done it by the next day and they to are excellent.
A friend of mine had a dreadful set up on his Ricky 4003 at Chandlers, came back with a high action and the G kept falling of the fretboard when played. It was rubbish and cost a lot of money, it took over two weeks too. I told him to take it to Martin at The Gallery and he sorted it out wonderfully, he said it needed a new nut as the original had been badly cut. Even I like playing it and I detest Rickys
 15. Bizarre thread.
 16.
Yes. And go and see them if I can. There are 4 BCers' bands that I listen to pretty much every week. And I've seen ANTA 4 or 5 times now. It's one of the things that keeps me coming to BC, discovering new bands to listen to.
That's good man! I do too, and I've had a fabulous response to Kit's ep. But I think these are the exceptions, the Recording section, and the Show us Your Vids thread get few responses to postings, unless it's some sort of technical fireworks or a Jaco cover
 17.
The Manchester Guitar Tech nitro ISN'T pre-cat!!! Rather, it's the real McCoy. Steve's spray cans are great. I've used the products on my surf green Eric Johnson Strat refinish, the refinish on the Shell Pink USA '62 reissue Jazz Bass, and on the shell pink mid 50's style P-Bass I did also.
Ah, correct, my mistake, I thought they did pre-cat too.
 18. Get pre-cat nitro from: http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/guitar-paint-and-lacquer.html or http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/shop/category/nitrocellulose-lacquer/ They have lots of advice on their sites. Nitro is also touch dry within ten minutes. It's easy to use. Ensure you prep the surface properly, spray with the right technique, leave for a week or two, carefully wet sand with decreasing grades of W&D, and polish. Also, wear a mask! Do not breathe that sh*t in.
 19.
Last night, ourselves, along with 2 supports (punk band and rock blues band) did a charity gig, 4 hours of solid live music. After much promotion the crowd wasn't quite as big as we would have liked, but all 3 bands had a decent time and we all raised a few quid for charity......what bugs me is as we are dismantling the rig we see the karaoke in the other bar totally heaving, with what can only be described as noises akin to a cat on heat pulled through a mangler by the no.57 bus. If that kind of *entertainment* pulls in the punters, it makes you wonder why you spend your time playing music at all! I know this gripe has probably been heard a trisquillion times, but it just gets to me at times and maybe it's time to not bother playing and see what all the X factor nonsense is all about.........erm, no, hang on...scrub that last bit!
Mate we are the same on here! We'll watch an Asian transvestite, the wrong drummer, Neil Peart f***ing up an intro, but will we head over to the BC Recording section and listen to BCers' bands?
 20.
They told me when they kicked me out. No pussy footing around, they straight up admitted it.
Crikey. Not a nice thing to hear. Were they in any way sympathetic? Or was it just "You're out Tom" ?
 21.
My band, which I helped form almost 3 years ago, had been going through a bit of a dry spell (no gigs for several months) Every member had focusing on other things like earning money to help fund our first major UK tour and caring for sick relatives but we all agreed to hit the road hard come Autumn/winter. But behind my back they had hidden from me that we had been approached by a record label with some kind of deal on the condition, and I quote "They kicked out the overweight bassist" So four of my closest friends decided to stab me in the back for a shot at the big time. But worst of all they are lying to the fans and my friends by saying I left to focus on other things and that I wasn't committed to the band! Pissed off to say the least but I'm curious if anyone in Basschat land has had a similar experience.
How do you know this mate?
 22. Been singing along this morning I love the geezer's voice, great song. It's just the soundstage in the mix that bothers me, especially at the beginning. Otherwise, keep f***ing going, keep writing!
 23.
Cmon, it was very hot that day and wearing a cool jacket or something just wasn't an option (if I got your message right that is)
I entirely agree with Bilbo, we bassists must set an example that even on hot days and under even hotter stage lighting, a modicum of style, and decorum, must be preserved and observed. If you must wear a vest, then it should be of the silk variety (no staining), and your butler should be on hand with your shirt, cravat, and suit and visible in at least six per cent of the video.
 24. It's not a good mix, but I love it! Nice arrangement, and the singer is quality, I love his voice and phrasing, really emotive and personal, some of his vocal gives me shivers. Work on the mixes and this could really be something special.
