1. The TC Electronic RS212 is a great size and weight. It's ceramic but not the weight you'd expect. Brand new with a padded cover you are looking at £490 ish. I would definitely recommend testing them...they are getting a lot of praise even from Tom Bowlus on Talkbass. Or...two Aguilar GS or DB112s...secondhand.
 2.
Precisions are definitely growing on me again at the moment. I'm definitely moving towards a thicker sound with my wooden basses since the Stingray arrived - I don't listen to a lot of popular music at all, but I love the Precision sound on this... I bought the "Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears" album on iTunes and it's fantastic. Bill Stevenson's sound is amazing!
Thats a great song. I heard it a few months back. Need to check out there album.
 3. I definitely think new projects in bands will make it more exciting. Buying new gear always makes me super excited to play! I wouldnt personally give up and sell gear. I have had short 'breaks' were exams and life became very busy (2nd year of Uni I think). I also had poor housing when I moved to Notts and Leeds so I never had nice gear there. I now have 2 new bands and im super happy to be playing more and more. I have been concentrating on becoming ultra smooth with my fingers, and it is definitely getting there.
 4.
That is definitely the ideal size and weight! now it is just getting around that price when I can find it
http://www.bassmerchant.com/item_detail.ph...p;category_id=2 You can even tune it with your computer. Fabulous. If I was loaded I would have one.
 5. Markbass now have powered cabinets. VERY pricey, but the features seem amazing if I have read them correctly. http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...=2&vedi=149 They seem even more fun than the Berg IPs.
 6.
I think they were probably meaning in terms of looks, in that they look very much like Fenders. They don't have any overly fancy tops or finishes or relic effect. The key to the metro basses are the pickups, the bridge and the general fit and finish which are generally great. Yes they are Japanese rather than American but they are far from being budget basses. The ones I have tried more than hold their own against the few Overwaters, Peavey Cirrus, Wals in terms of construction, pickups, sound and playability, if not in terms of having a distinct unique look or design. They are also very unfussy basses that don't require much time spent to eq etc, which makes them really great when playing gigs or recording. The sound as well is pretty unique to Sadowsky in my opinion, which some people just don't take to anyway. I find it almost impossible to dial in a 'vintage' fender sound on a Sadowsky, even with the VTC. If you want that sound, then you are probably better off getting a Fender. I think that when the four string metros were in the £1300-1500 category that was bang on. Now they have gone up again to starting at £1700, which is pushing it a bit. Suppose its a sign of the times though as the prices of NYCs have gone up as well.
I agree. Even though im not sure Sadowsky tone is for me, I would still have one if they kept them below £1500. It kind of takes the point out of an affordable instrument. Fit and finish is brilliant on them...I must admit.
It depends if you ever want to sell your Shuker. Resale on a Sadowsky will always be higher than on a Shuker given the current market trends.
+1
 7.
i went the other day, staff seemed really helpful. Was glad to see the sadowsky stuff... does anyone tink the metro stuff is a bit overpriced when you consider what you can get from a luthier like shuker the same money? There was a lovely sparkly gibson es336 that is possibly the gayest guitar on earth!
+1 on the sadowsky front. The latest prices are crazy.
 8.
This is back up... GAS gone mad and all that. First post totally updated. No haggling... I need something lighter and have found other things I want... Shep
Whats the weight of this beauty?
 9.
I think you've been unlucky. I ordered mine from Andertons at 9.30am and was using it by noon the following day. Found myself in Colchester the other day & picked up an RS210 cab from the friendly chaps at The Bass Merchant. Tired it with a 212 as well & think I'll be getting one of those down the line as it added a touch of oomph at the very low end.
Plus 1. The RS210 + 212 does work incredibly well. The BM chaps also have the new finish cabinets now. They are really slick
 10.
Funny you mention Aguilar and Bergantino... I own a Berg HS210 and ordered an Aguilar db212 (partly due to you favourable comments on talkbass) to go with the RH (but also my Sadowsky SA200). Why are you selling your dbs, if you don't mind me asking? Mee too. I think OEM covers are overpriced! That's way I order my covers at d2fcovers.com. Even after paying for shipping and taxes, they are less expensive than most OEM covers.
Hi I sold my HS410...I wanted a modular 2x10 x 2 setup....and the RS Cabinets really did sound good for me. I think Im keeping the DB212s to be honest. My girlfriend thinks I will regret selling, as they are fantastic. Still not 100% what to do.
 11.
Regarding Andertons.... I ordered the RH450 + bag & FS for799£. They advertised it as in stock/shipping in 24 hours max Thats was the reason I chose Andertons.... hoping to get the amp this week for this Saturday's gig Now: I put the order on Sunday , Feb 28, confirmed my CC details on Monday March 1. The amp got dispatched on Thursday March 4th!!!! Let's talk 24 hours shipping The amp hasn't arrived, yet
Ah man You will love it when it turns up. I have taken delivery of the new smoother black finish RS212 x 2 and RS212. So far I am very very impressed. The construction is great. I have yet to give them a proper testing. I think Aguilar and Bergantino should take note. In fact most amp/cab companies should...because the covers for the cabs, (and the gig bag for the amp) are of a very high quality and are a very low price. I dont see why covers should ever be over about £45-50. TC got it right charging £20-25 ish.
 12.
The proper side in the vicinity of North Shields!
Hahaha. Welcome. I am now living in Newcastle. Not born and bred here though.
 13.
That's not good - you should expect something that's at least fully functional based on the specifications, regardless of retail price. That is crazy-cheap though @ £179 online. Personally I might have just returned it, but if you can repair it satisfactorily and it sounds good then I'd say you're probably better off. Those speaker fixing screw mounts would bother me the most, as there's not much to be done when the wood around them crumbles away, without significant surgery.
+1, I would have returned it. But then again Im super picky.
 14. Ive had this before....and I have lent my 'old' amps and cabs out before....but none of my new high end gear. I would possible lend a cab to someone who looked like he knew what he was doing. I wouldnt lend an amp unless it was a friend and I set up the gain etc for them. I would never lend a bass....unless I had an old one I wasnt so bothered about. My backup plan is always take a Sansamp....so if you cannot for any reason take an amp, at least you have a pretty good PA sound.
 15.
"Happy birthday for tomorrow Gareth" type bump
Many thanks!
 16. I know the new USA pups have smooth pole pieces..if that helps? They definitely sound massive in the two I own.
 17. Fantastic. This is the second Jazz up here that I want! Alas...lack of cash strikes again.
 18. As the wood is going to be such a special piece....Im starting to wonder if I should not get it painted. Hmmm. I think id have to see some in the flesh first.
 19.
Yup He's not paying Sei type rent for a place in London, he's not paying for staff and a shop like Overwater and, to be honest with everyone, he doesn't charge enough.... That's about it as far as I can see. he is also up for one offs and "different" basses rather than variations on certain body types or shapes etc..That's how you get things like Dood's Doodles and Kiwi's Midi headless...
Ah yes, thats makes sense. Well...if anyone has any pictures of more 'vintage style' Jazz 5'ers from Shuker...please let me know. Blocks and bindings are a must! Im not getting LEDs, and I definitely want the best 'vintage sounding' 60/70s type Jazz pickups, but with the ability to go into a nice 3 band EQ...it all has to be the right tone and style for me.
 20.
My quest for a new rig has ended, here is the result Sounds brilliant, the Mid control on the preamp is absolutely amazing, so many useable sounds set up is - Glockenklang bass art classic preamp - STK class d power amp 600w per side (temporary while bigger amp gets a repair) - Mark bass 4x10 "standard" x 2 its good
Jees...I bet that packs a wallop!
 21.
Too cheap. I'd have thought 1500 in that condition but what do I know.
+1...id love a fretless P, and im sure Clarky would. If I had £1k id have this...seriously. Thats a massive bargain.
 22. What I want to know about Shuker is how they compare to a Sei or Overwater? The prices seem lower for a similar bass with Shuker...is there a reason? That P bass looks sweet.
 23. Hi I am living in Newcastle, but Im off back to see the parents nearby you in early April. I am after a cheap and cheerful bass that I can throw about basically. As long as it plays alright and the action isnt high im not bothered about dings etc. Ill keep me eye on this...not entirely sure what funds ive got yet or whether ill have money when I visit home.
 24. How big do you want the rig to 'sound'? Many of the new 1x12s x 2 will be enough for most players...or a 2x12. If you want bigger than that, 4x10 is the way to go, but just get an efficient cabinet.
