1. I recently noticed a band using the guitar version, Albert Lee Guitar (The Swellers). It looked amazing. Im not normally one to go for the unusual, but this bass just works visually for me.
2. Looking good! Clarky...there are now two non-Fenders in your stable! Quick, get another Fender.
3.
This question probably makes me look even dumber (but hey, if you've been on this forum for a while then you've seen me make stupider posts)... I'm currently using a Warwick Pro Fet 5.2 and a Barefaced Compact. The Fet is 500W @ 4ohm (so maybe around 300W into the 8ohm Compact). I often see posts about getting another 8ohm cab to get the most out of an amp... but if I did where would I plug it in??? The amp has a 1 x speakon (I think) port marked "500W@4ohm Min" and 1 x standard jack "Speaker" output. I'm probably misunderstanding but presumably you can't plug an 8ohm cab into the speakon??? So can this amp only take one cab then??? Or am I missing the vital piece of information all other bass players know?
Does it have one speakon and one normal jack for the speaker connection? If so, plug one into each. You can also daisy chain although not from the Compact as it only has one speakon.
4.
I would JUMP on the fiesta red, but I've got a fiesta red Road Worn coming for my birthday Having said that, it's still the colour I like best. TBH I kinda love them all, there is something wicked about the CV '50's. I guess I'll try em all out.
Cool, Road Worn Jazz in Fiesta Red I dont normally like red on instruments, unless its that Fiesta Red with the right guard, and then I REALLY like it. How odd!
5.
I can't believe this. Someone on BC orders the "first" (supposedly) big al 5 and now all of you want one! I can see why though, it is interesting.
Haha, well, I agree, we all create GAS for each other. BUT, I wasnt in the slightest bit interested until I heard the demo video. That was it...sold.
6. I know, there is still divided opinion on these instruments, just like the Bongo. But Im a EBMM fanboy, lets face it. If people can like the frankly odd Warwick shapes, then Im sure a little push in the right direction and theyd start to see why I like the bodyshape. The tone on these basses from the videos is just STUNNING. Perfect combination of MM punch but with single coils! It also does passive as well as active. Both settings sound really good. I didnt really look into these basses until I heard the Ed Friedland demos on YouTube. This is the reason Im suddenly drawn to the bizarre bodyshape: That is the exact spec I want. I figured despite the fact I could just keep saving and get a true vintage Fender, Im actually really happy with the modern ones I own. At this point my next bass has to be different and offer me something Ive never had before.
7.
Ah but which model to go for? I've got huge GAAAAS for one at the moment, and being a precision lover, I'm undecided between the CV 60's in Sonic blue and the CV 50's.
50s CV or the Fiesta Red CV.
8.
I believe the only way you'll achieve a similar loudness with those smart power ones is 2 of those 2x10s but that's expensive. The only orange bass cab I'd feel comfortable with is the OBC 115, but it won't be as loud or light as the compact. But lol at the bass off idea.
The OBC wont be as light as the compact, without a doubt. BUT, I did test the two side by side when Alex sent Compacts out for the baschatters to try out. Only briefly though. It was certainly a LOT lighter, but the sizes were similar. I wouldnt say one was louder than the other...very similar. Not only that, the Orange, as per the Tom Bowlus 1x15 shootout, has a really nice high end despite the facts its a 1x15 and has no horn.
9.
Had a great gig last night but had to use SS strings instead of Nickels and dug in a bit too much (Im a sucker for a good crowd...). I've now got a blister on my finger - should I pop it today so that hopefully it heals for next Saturday?
I had two blisters the other day from continued use of my fingers I used to be 95% pick, but now its shifting to 80% fingerstyle, and I like it. The blisters hardened up within 2 days, just leave them
10. Finally got the T-Rex Chameleon Power Supply. Pricey, but very very slick and silent. Comes with an entire package of cables to hook it up to your pedals. Switchable voltage for the mains, and the main attraction is the sheer amount of options. Will power anything you have basically, without needing a workaround. It even powers 12V TC Pedals. Yay!

Bargain. I started on an Encore.
12.
You're an amp whore as well. I think the first time I had amp gas was looking at your porn thread and seeing your Orange rig, the 2 Aguilar 2x12 cabs, the white Orange guitar cab and something else....
Glad to know im having a GAS effect on others haha! The Orange rig (bass and guitar versions) wont be moved on despite the fact they are more of a home/recording use purchase. I will use them live if I get chance at a decent venue though. The DB212s are fantastic, but Ive gone for 1 4 ohm version now in Classic Black and sold the two 8 ohm ones to Higgie. I miss the awesome style of them but I just didnt need another stack next to the Orange cabs! I am an amp/cab whore. lol.
13. I had the full amp version of this and it was an absolute machine....punches like crazy! Good luck
14. I love amps/cabs. What I like is you can build up quite a collection for less than a boutique bass. Then again, don't get me started on overpriced basses that look more like coffee tables. I think I've hit my pinnacle. I've tried a hell of a lot, and even moved on cabs that have been classed as the best money can buy. Why? Because not all hype is correct! I just listen out now, and weigh it up, literally, with the size/weight/wattage/features etc. Do I miss my old Trace? A little...but the amps I have now are definitely more to my tastes.
15. Thanks for all the input. Ive looked about and its still back to the Mono vs Comfort Strapp. Are the parts on the CS made from some sort of metal or plastic?
16.
My first proper amp was a BLX 130. It still belongs to a mate of mine. Had a nice enough tone, not huge amount of volume though. Never quite saw the point of a heavy, 130 watt amp - louder than needed for practicing and too quiet to compete with a drummer, although I suppose it would do well in an acoustic based band.
Yep, my first real amp as well. I got a great price trading it in. It was VERY heavy for a 1x10...and it struggled with volume. I jumped up a GP12400SMX after that, and wow was that loud! (And heavy).
17. I have one of these. Might not have been this exact spec but I have a 1x10 Trace Combo with that design port.
18. Still umming and ahhing. Bloomin heck.
19. I would definitely try everything before you buy with any cabinet. Its definitely the best way of going about it.
20.
I must admit the Orange does take my fancy and if they are as good as people (yourself included) say then I'm leaning that way. I've been told that the guys at Rooz Studios in Old St in London have got a couple of BT's and the SP212 cabs so i'll get them to drag one out for when I next go there. As for cabs, i quite like the idea of trying a Barefaced Compact 1x15, i currently tend to use the Trace combo on it's own and just drag out the extra cab when I want more grunt or I want to show off (sad eh? even at my age), I could sell the combo and keep the Trace extension cab for then. I also have an 8 ohm Celestion neoprene-thingy 15 incher sitting in a cheap PA cab which could be brought into play, the Cab is CRAP, i used it for a gig once and it just flapped about like Muddy Mudskipper!! I'm sure the cabs fault not the speaker but I could try that in the extension cab to lighten that. Thanks for the advice (this goes for all the replies ;o) Cheers Tone
No worries. As always, make sure you test. No matter what everyone recommends you may not like it!
21. .88 Dunlops (Green) for the majority, but recently as Ive started using slightly thicker strings, Ive opted for a pack of the 0.60 (Orange) Dunlops. These are for use when im playing im my punk band....and I need that extra little bit of give in the pick. We play VERY fast, and sometimes the .88 really feels like its going to snap the strings! Anything thicker/heavier just feels a little too awkward for me.
22. I got lucky. The band I joined have a big enough practice PA so I dont even need an amp for practice, (although I would take one if I wasn't on the Metro late at night). I drive but I don't need a car up here where I'm based so both myself and the girlfriend sold them. Best investment is a quality DI/effects DI like Sansamp or the Tonehammer. I got by on being friendly and enthusiastic. They even have a cheap backup bass I sometimes use if the weather is poor on rehearsal nights. Don't give up. A good bassist is more than a car and amp Once you settle in, I'd suggest a nice lightweight amp like Bass Terror/LM2 or 3....etc.
