1.
Is it me or do your strings run offline?
I can see what you mean...lovely looking bass though. Can you get the shop to check it? E seems close to the edge of the board cf to the G.
2.
my fingers are f***ed today, I haven't played for that long at home for many years.
This is a good point....I find if a bass does this to me, then Im very happy!
3. Same spec as mine. It is definitely my all time favourite P bass (out of the fair amount ive played over time). Great choice.
4. Email the Bass Merchant - [email protected] Darren is a Warwick expert and has a custom version of this bass.
5. I seriously suggest trying before buying. I am more than happy with the Mk3, but that's me.
6. I knew there were bargains around. Id ring to confirm they are out if stock btw....the first time I went to order the website wouldn't let me buy a light blue one.
7.
if i was going to buy one jazz... the red secondhand one bass direct have....
Too expensive and not a huge fan of the colour. If I go that route I'd just get an American Standard again.
8. I'd go active if the bass still had the full passive option andctone control, plus the complete Jazz full sized body....depends when the right one appears. I've always struggled to find a good Jazz and it's getting on my nerves! Surely buying a £900 ish instrument should be easy?! I'd buy second hand if it was in amazing condition and a fair price...
9. I sold/traded my Jazz bass for more Musicman basses. The quality is night and day, even though the Jazz was pretty nice. I admit I'm snobby with fit and finish...but NOTHING sounds like a proper Fender Jazz unless it's a Fender! I've tried others, and I still want a Fender. Part of me is tempted to get a CV Jazz and upgrade the pups, but to be frank, Im no modder. I like to buy it and stick to it. After Dave_bass had so many problems trying to get an American Standard, I've been worried about trying again. It clearly takes patience to get a nice Fender and I don't have time to keep sending them back until I find a good one. I've tried Lakland but the QC issues just put me right off, and we all know about those! Ideas?! I do not want an active jazz, it has to be stock passive otherwise I'm spending on features I don't want!!! I've tried to get a brilliant Jazz for a long time with no luck...with the one I bought in 2000 ish being absolutely poor. Poor output, bad neck pockets, poor finish. It's getting hard blooming work. If the last one was rosewood I would have kept it.
10. I'd go for outboard pedal. Me? Tonehammer. The BDDI is also a great pedal. I wouldn't do anything to your actual bass with it being a vintage.
11. Plus one, watch this space. My hand was in my wallet almost putting a deposit down once I realised how low the prices were, plus the whole 'Walkabout with more power' had me sold. However, I'm with KJung on this. Two failures is not good news. My current amps have been great, and I wouldn't want to risk selling one and getting another with reliability problems. If we were in the US, I'd take the plunge and let Genz deal with failures. But, here, we won't have the same close service. Yes, our stores will help out 100%, but it won't be as simple. I think the whole 'swap the tubes' on a faulty unit is a little over the top...you just should not need to swap out tubes on new amps unless you want to. I've had amps with tubes, tube pre-amps, etc, and they've worked great. I think Genz will sort this out...but I admit I'm wary. I have the same rule...if I am let down with new gear, I try another, then I give up. Let's see what happens...personally I think the 3 threads of hype before release are a little over the top.
12. There isn't a keeper, I agree. I go through phases. Part of my requirements is high quality control, so it's hard to find basses that match it. So far, the EBs have really impressed me. You know what I still want? An amazing 4 string jazz. Just passive, light ish, great QC. Will I find it? Hopefully! Will I keep it? For as long as I can! This year I'm buying no more basses once these get here...because the price hikes and VAT have really put me off.
13. Pino has gone?!!!
14. My replacement arrived! Much much better. Better paintwork, nice medium weight, string match the pole pieces better, string through holes line up with bridge, and all accessories present! Best bargain I've found for a long time. No more Squier searching for me. I notice the nut ain't so hot so if I have to I'll change that.
15. I give up! I didn't intend another 'right/wrong' discussion, and yet again it's happened when the topic is about 900w micros, the Genz in particular. I still wouldn't push all that power through one cab. Believe me, I see the need for smaller / lighter cabs, but if I had a 900w amp, I'd see no point in a tiny cab with one high end speaker. The days of 8x10s aren't that relevant...the 8x10 design is perfect for certain bands. I couldn't handle it without a roadie though.
16. I just don't see the point. More volume? Get more speakers. I like to be careful so Id never push an expensive 1x12 with masses if power. My Orange would be more power for most large bands. Through a 1x12? No. 2x12? Getting there. 4x12? Monster volume.
17. I'd like a USA Fender Precision P pickup...
18.
If it was a good 500 watts then the 12" would jump...or it was a bloodsucking cab which I would think would be lacking in tone. There is no new physics here, no new laws invented, IMO.
Agreed. The speakers might be a higher spec but if it really is 500w you are pushing it.
19.
I was more thinking in a AH-1000 Trace! No need for e demolition crew!
Exactly! Trace watts are what I'm used to. I know these little Streamliners will be great but their wattage ratings are bizarre. Not that I'd need 900w anyway, and I can't understand anyone pumping 500 @ 8 ohms into a single 1x12.
20.
Bass merchants Colchester have one in stock was there yesterday
Darren @ Bass Merchant have just taken a lot of Mess stock on...
21. Wow, the guitars must be pretty poor then. The bass I tried was pretty alright for a £60 backup to throw around on stage and not worry about. I showed a picture to a bandmate and he thought it was some boutique Fender copy! Then I explained they are £60 and obviously he thought it was a silly low price. Let's hope my replacement works properly...then I don't need to spend £300 on a Squier.
22. Nice magazine and cool review. Once you get past the crazy look, they really do offer something different. Like a modern Fender with MM punch and build quality
23. My replacement is actually due tomorrow. Let's hope this one works out.
24. It's worth mentioning that although this will have lots of power, Genz watts are never upto the same level as many expect. I know these new amps are meant to have more ummph than the older Shuttles, but if there was a 900watt Mesa, the Mesa would bury it.
25. My replacement is arriving tomorrow.
