1. Check this! One of the guys off the Orange forums I think he comes on here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-rN4glWmTs
2.
What would be the point? You'd have the skanky Fender rubbish in the way.
Is it something I could pay a decent Tech to fit professionally without huge costs? I have the Aguilar Tonehammer so not sure Id need one, but Id LIKE one.
3. From the man himself on Talkbass: Wow, didn’t expect to wake up this morning to this. Maybe I can shed a little light on what’s happening and help answer some of your questions and maybe even concerns. First, the NV’s aren’t going anywhere. They will still be an integral part of our product line, as they fill a niche in the market place. As for the HT112ER, that was, as I wrote to my dealers, a tough pill to swallow and not of my choosing. After NAMM, my local B&C sales rep along with the president of B&C stopped by my office for a visit. They informed me that the tweeter they’ve been making for me since the inception of the original HT112 back in 2001, when Bergantino Audio first started, will no longer be available. I completely understand their decision as I was the only one in the world they were still making this tweeter for over the last several years. As many HT112 owners know, the tweeter plays a big role in the character of that cabinet. I’m sure there are other tweeters out there that can fill the role, but for now I’ve decided to let it go and see how it plays out. If demand persists, I can and will research a new tweeter for this product and bring it back to market. As for the HS cabs, it really comes down to numbers. They have certainly been selling, but not at the volume of the AE’s. Now, here’s what, as some have eluded to here, should really concern all of you… the price of neo. It’s a two part concern. One, as has been noted, the increased demand by things such as electric motors for automobiles. But that’s only “1/3” of the supply/demand equation. The fact that China is the only country in the world right now producing neo should really be of concern to you. When you have increased demand along with a monopoly, no telling where this is going to go. In fact, I was also told by one highly regarding speaker manufacturer that all new product development in 2011 will be ceramic based only! So while it may seem a bit of a contradiction to be phasing out ceramic products while the price of neo could potentially skyrocket, remember, it’s not like I’ve thrown away the plans and specs of the ceramic products. In fact, if the marketplace should change such that it becomes a weight vs. price issue, and price starts to dominate the decision process, I’m only a few phone calls and less than 2 months away from having a complete ceramic based product line on my dealers’ floors. Anyway, hope his helps answer some of your questions. But right now, I have to get back to cooking my infamous “Mama Bergantino’s” Italian sauce and meatballs for my son’s varsity hockey team’s pre-game pasta dinner! ….Hmm maybe time for a career change??? :-) Regards, Jim Bergantino
4.
Sounds perfect. Have you had experience with one? As you have many Music Mans (I'm exclusively playing a Sterling now) I'll be interested to hear a more in depth 'review' ... I think I'll just go for it and it'll be awesome. First ever amp purchase!
If you want a really full on punk tone, this amp can do it. It can also do warm fat old school thump/clean. Ive seen a few bands using Orange and Rays/Big Als etc.
5. Hands down, get the BT. Definitely. Massive volume, ace dirt. Big fat tone. Grindy if you want it.
6. Compare the CV Squiers and SR Bass. There are obviously massive differences, but when it comes down to it, we should just buy what we want. £300 vs £60? If you truly want a budget bass, get the £60 one and spend the rest on a more expensive bass. The problem I see is anyone expecting these basses to be worth anything. They wont...they will be worth about £60 second hand! The Squier CVs? Yes, apparently they are going to rise in value, but I dont fall for the 'MIJ/Squier CV etc etc' price rise. They are great, as are the MIJ basses, but they still dont do it like the real thing. Mod it, and there we have it, (or if you have the MIJ with USA pups and bought it for a good price!). I wanted a CV P and J JUST for dirty gigs, and I dont mean rough bars, I mean ROUGH gigs. Hardcore punk is very very fun to play live and the audience get involved both onstage and off. So, I wanted a P I could literally not care about. If I spent £300 on a CV P, its still a nice bass, and £300. £60? Its £60....thats it! The rest I would have spent on the CV is going towards my proper gear.
7. Nice! Does he make a pedal version?!
8. Nice site!
9.
Main problem I'm having finding a 5 string is because they are very metal looking, it's not shallow it's just knowing what you want.
You need a MM style 5 string Or a Lakland.
10. I doubt just one line could keep the company afloat. Apparently the cost of neo itself is rising rapidly. Bad time to be buying new neo cabs!
11. Interesting. I can't understand discontinuing all ceramic cabs...a few maybe, but all? There are still plenty of us who prefer his ceramic loaded cabinets. Discontinuing the NVs?! Crazy move. That will leave the current lineup with 4 cabs. AE112, 210, 212, 410. I wonder if we are going to see other models? I think the price rise is a bit 'eeeeekkkk'...they are already quite expensive. I can see that detering buyers if it's significant. We shall see
12. I think I have had a few people / scammers after my amp. I've withdrawn it now.
13. Are you keeping the Al? Those 5501s are a good price, I must admit.
14. Just heard a demo of a HH and I'm definitely amending my order to a HH! Lots of cool tones.
15. I had one, traded it for EBMMs. I know I'll get another, but this time definitely rosewood. If you get a nice one, they are great basses.
16. If mine is still alive ill let you know. Let's see what a few heavy gigs does to it.
17. I want a White/Tort/Rosewood Dingwall 5 but unfortunately I've got absolutely no way of taking time out to try these.
18. Yeah, get a full refund and look into MM Ray 5 clones?
19. Plus one, refund!
20. I couldnt find a thing on ebay or here for £60 delivered that was brand new. People thought I was crazy at one point for not wanting to spend over £120-£150....so I just waited. I didnt want something that had already been well beaten. When I was starting on bass, my Encore cost probably double this! For a bass to leave out and noodle on, and to not worry about in an energetic band, this is perfect
21. I think compared to the bottom of the line Squiers, its probably the same. Eg, a playable bass, but nothing amazing. However, the colour sold me on this one
22. I only bought it because I wanted a useable Precision-type bass as a backup. Some of the gigs we are going to be playing will get quite hectic/energetic on stage. No way am I taking a £1200 Musicman man to gigs like that....I cant afford to replace them. Ive had crowd members pick me up and walk me around the room/crowd before, which was all in good fun, but not great when you are trying to minimise damage. I wouldnt gig it in a covers/professional band, because I may as well drag the decent basses for that. I wouldnt mod it. If someone had a spare USA Fender P pickup and was selling it really cheap, thats the only thing I would change. I nearly bought a Squier CV, which are great basses, dont get me wrong, but I didnt want anything over about £150. £60 delivered for a useable and quite pretty sonic blue P bass that works 100% is a bargain. Otherwise, I wouldnt have bothered. No offence to the other chaps who are modding the hell out of them, but I wouldnt bother spending anymore on it apart from (as mentioned) a second hand pup and new strings. They are what they are....basically a fairly decent starter bass. To have quite good QC on a bass this cheap is very good, IMO. Better than some MIM Fenders! Although probably not as hardwearing etc. I cannot see these being worth anymore than they are down the line. If mine works out to be hardwearing and lasts a few tours, ill be happy and sell it cheap.
23. Sansamp.
24. I was going to change my pickup, but I figured I cant be bothered. Great bass for £60, but Im not one for modding with parts that are more expensive that the bass itself.
25. I realise its not what you want to hear, but you have the right bass for the job already! A J bass, even at the front pup, will still grind a little if you have SS/Nickel strings. I know what you mean about big fat warm tones. I love the bass sound the guy from Paul Weller uses. Fat, warm, but with enough articulation to hear his great runs. I can see where you are coming from though. A P bass can sound very grindy and punk with a pick and the tone up. Especially with new strings. My idea? How about the D'addario Chromes? Apparently they are a happy medium between flats and roundwound. I never thought id see the day I use flats, but my P bass is strung with them, and its soooo smooth to play. It will still grind because they are quite fresh, but if you dont want it to, it wont. Cut the treble, boost the low mids and bass. Mmmm
